$40 for a streaming concert during which my crappy university connection could drop is just too much.
It does seem like a lot, but you pretty much legally get the main portion of the concert really really soon, and they're replaying it about 6 times total.

I mean who knows, most people who see the stream might get to see the concert before anyone else does!

isthisLOL? 29th December 2010 12:54 PM

OK, I'm officially crazy now, I will try to find a way to properly record part of my screen WITH computer audio and if that works I will pay for the stream haha

truehappiness 29th December 2010 08:20 PM

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does this say that we will get two songs free for the USTREAM broadcast?

Pop star Ayumi Hamasaki has her New Year's countdown concert "ayumi hamasaki COUNTDOWN LIVE 2010-2011 ~do it again~" scheduled for December 31 at Yoyogi National Gymnasium. It was announced today that she will be making the concert available through video service Ustream the next day, though it will not be free.

News outlets are reporting that this will be Ustream's first-ever pay-per-view music offering. The concert will be shown uncut, but it will not include the encore. The general "ticket" price has been set at 3,150 yen, but members of Hamasaki's fan club Team Ayu will get a discount at 2,625 yen.

The video stream will begin after the concert is over, starting around 3:00am on January 1. Before that, music videos will play between 1:00am and 3:00am. For those that are unable to stream the concert at the given time, Ustream plans to have rebroadcasts on January 2 and 3 (available only to ticket holders).

Fan club members will get their first shot at tickets starting at 0:00 on December 25 until 6:00pm on December 27. General ticket sales will open on the Ustream site at 6:00 on December 27 and run until 4:00am on January 1 (after the concert has started).

Based on this structure, it appears that tickets will be limited in quantity. Previous Ustream pay-per-view events have also been limited.

The broadcast is also planned to be free for the first two songs.

isthisLOL? 29th December 2010 08:55 PM

2 free songs? Now does that mean videos of songs that are not in the TV version for some reason?(like rehearsal or 30th dec vids maybe?) or just like...free song downloads? Definitely interesting.

EDIT: Oh! First two songs for free! lol
How long does purchasing a ticket take? I think I'll see if the quality is ok and then decide to pay or not :D And this probably means costume change after 2 songs I'm guessing.

truehappiness 29th December 2010 09:14 PM

It should take a few minutes.

However, if you buy the ticket after seeing the first two songs, you will miss whatever happens while you're buying the ticket.

jbrat2219 29th December 2010 09:19 PM

Awww I thought we got two new free mp3 songs or something xD; Oh well, good enough.

Watch the first song, open a new tab placed next to the stream. Should work.
But could someone that bought a ticket confirm that you can do it in 5 mins? Else I'm not even starting to watch cause chances I then buy a ticket and will be damn pissed I missed a few mins will be high lol

truehappiness 29th December 2010 09:21 PM

I hope more people will be watching.

They should have emphasized this to get people interested.

Make a USTREAM account first since that will probably take the bulk of the time. Then try and go through the process. I think I'm going to make an account for now just to see.

miki_beland 29th December 2010 10:29 PM

how do you guys know how much people bought a ticket? because I only find the "crowd" thing that says there is 102 people in, but I joined without paying anything lol

It is explained on the official page that if you buy it when the show has already started, you won't be able to watch that video, so you'll only watch the re-broadcasts

truehappiness 29th December 2010 10:33 PM

They took out the people-who-have-tickets now thing. I guess they didn't want people's names being disclosed.

Chimoki 29th December 2010 10:53 PM

I wanted a ticket..but those prices..no way.

It says that when you buy it when the show has already started, you will not be able to see what has already aired.

Quote:

If the ticket purchase is made after the start of show (on January 1st ), customer will not be able to see the video that was already broadcasted at the point of purchase. Please understand that we do not make discounts or make any refunds after purchase.
Basically, it makes sense because you will be paying while the show is going on, so you won't be able to see anything you miss past the first two free songs if you're buying it during the concert other than during a rebroadcast.

Scenario: You buy the ticket halfway through the concert and redeem it. You can not rewind and see the half that you missed and can only see the half that is broadcasting at the time of redemption. If you're planning on watching anyway, I think you should just buy the ticket ahead of time instead of waiting for the free portions.

oneheart 30th December 2010 12:53 AM

so what time is it airing? is it tomorrow?

rusuke 30th December 2010 12:54 AM

I know this will happen!!! At the first place, we know Avex.

I know it would be unfair if it would be free watching it online but at least if we would pay for it, it should be on the same Japanese time when it's LIVE and not delayed.

But, I also know there are devoted fans who will pay it, ne?

I'll just wait for the DVD.

I think they want to ensure that everything goes smoothly. Would you rather the broadcast be live and then something goes wrong 30 minutes into the show and you end up having to watch a replay anyway?

Also, if it were live for everyone else it would be extremely early for some viewers.

rusuke 30th December 2010 01:04 AM

Well, that's true.

But why there's no encore anyway?
