I'm not really a Kuu fan, just somewhat ocasional listener. And out of boredom i downloaded Bon Voyage. I am actually surprised not many folks here liked it. I am no fan of dance music tracks but i surprisingly enjoyed quite a few on it. After going throuh the whole thing i came to the conclusion that it's a verry chilled out piece. I liked how a lot of songs had quite quirky arrangements. Like stuff you woudn't normally hear from someone like her. It's quite a decent album i'd say. Not to mention her rock tracks are always awesome and really works with her vocals well. I had JAPANESQUE and i only left myself with like 4 songs from it, on this one I left 9 and that to me says "decent album" xD

I also checked HOTEL. It is rather messy, but i really didn't see a problem with that lol I did enjoy it! It's fun!

Question though, is there a single pic from a profesional photoshoot where she would not have her mouth hanging open? xD It is starting to get ridiculous... I guess she thinks it's sexy? xD

I find it funny that I'm a huge koda kumi fan and I felt kinda the same way with Japonesque. I keep talking about how much I loved that album and how flawless it is until I realized that besides the interludes I only saved 9 songs from the 19 track setlist on my computer. I don't even really like VIP, I only saved it because I thought TPain (who I don't like but thought was a nice add to this song) added something to the song to not make it sound so monotonous. Another reason I saved VIP is because it's a nice paced workout song.

I'm always taken aback when people don't like JAPONESQUE, but then I guess I tend to forget a lot of the songs I love from it aren't like legitimately great songs. I love VIP, but it's a verified hot mess. I love Lay Down, but it's not really that exciting. ESCALATE is OK but it's just sort of generic old school etc. etc. I just love the way the album is laid out and how it provides so much. It's a little bit of everything without feeling like a mixtape in the vein of Colours. And I think the songs are all for the most part pretty strong examples of what she can offer.

Bon Voyage to me is too much like, idk, she picked a bunch of catchy songs out of a hat and called it an album. There's no direction. There's some variety, but at the same time, there really isn't any lol. It just doesn't work for me as an album, because by the end of it I'm just sort of like, "That's it? The album's over?"

orangeakira 1st August 2014 10:17 PM

^One of the problems with releasing singles before albums is that you have no sense of direction. Unless you come up with the album concept over a year or two ahead of the release for it, nothing really flows. It's how Ayu can release 3 ballads and a summer pop song as singles and then announce her new album is called "Rock 'n Roll Circus". Most of the time it's more than obvious that they don't come up with the album's concept or theme until all the singles are out and they're recording album track songs.

The album tracks fit the theme of the album along with music videos for the album tracks, but then all the single tracks have their own concept and theme and you generally need interludes to get the songs to flow.

bon voyage was a little too scattered for me too. Just the song choices in general.

But like with what artcika said, I really appreciate the quirky arrangements, and some of the songs are so catchy. I also love the laid back attitude for it. Like, idk, the whole vacation theme is kinda cool to fit in with songs that are supposed to be pop and not actually supposed to be vacation songs.

Actually i have a funny taste. I cannot stand albums that have the same stuff going on. Even if the songs are good i get borred of them very quickly. What people call cohesive, i end up getting borred wth eventually and quite offten - quickly. lol My favorite albums are always the ones that are a mess arrangement and style wise. I like listening and getting surprised with every song that comes up. I just simply don't get borred with them as fast as with the rest. I like when singers experiment with things.

I really wasn't expecting something like this from Kuu though. But it nicelly surprised me! It's like saying "I'm on vacation, so i'm gonna do whatever i want to and be all over the place" xD

It even got me going for the first time to make something with her haha~

^Pretty good besides the fact that her make up looks too heavy and makes her look like a drag queen. But maybe I should just post my koda kumi photoshop stuff in this thread since making my own in the "multimedia" forum doesn't seem to attract many viewers. If I put my stuff in here, every time someone wanted to post, they'd have to see it. hehe

BlackSilence 2nd August 2014 02:35 AM

i didn't really do much, only added the red on the lips, I was thinking of taking off a bit of her eye-make but it doesn't bother me THAT much. She's far from looking like a drag queen to me lol
It's the only one i have of her and i don't usually do this in the artists' threads. I actually don't post much from my works on here anymore.. The forum is rather dead lol The fanworks section of this part of the forum never really was very popular.

im kinda similar. Unless the albums are super conceptual and so, have a standardized sound throughout the tracks, I'm like ~blah~.

That's why I just say Ayu's Love Songs was conceptual...without her producers and stuff talking about that album and it's sound, I'd hate it.

But Koda for me has never really had an album that was very similar sound wise. She always has her couple of genres of songs, and I like it best for her.

Bon Voyage wasn't a bad album but it wasn't something that had me raving. On Your Side is my jam though!

JAPONESQUE is a great album. It's not cohesive, it's a mess of sounds, but it works. And it flowing so well despite the different genres means every single song is built the right way.
Bon Voyage is the opposite. It has the same kind of vibe and, in general, the same sound. It's not a masterpiece, but I can't find one single song that sounds bad. And I didn't hear something so uniform from Kuu since feel my mind.

why haven't they dropped Ayu like 2-3 years ago then? lmao
Tbh I'd rather Kuu went the Namie way and created her own separate department

Man, it's impossible to download that video from their web-site. I've tried all the web-sites and flv download apps.

I felt like it was International Japanese MTV, cuz on the site it says 'Dial to the latest culture and music from Japan'

I hope I'm not the only one who keeps checking to see if the single leaked yet. MIMB sounds really fun!

Hey guys, next week I'll start going to gym (first time for me, btw), and I'm making a workout playlist. Kuu was my first thought, so I made this list with her most energetic and powerful songs. I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch of them, can you help me? :)

(Note: I know maybe remixes fit better for workout than regular songs, but I'm not too fond of them, so I'm mostly looking for original songs).

So this is my (short) playlist so far:

Spoiler:
VIP
Boom Boom Boys
Escalate
LOADED
Crank the bass
LOL
Go to the top
U KNOW
Pink Spider
XXX
Thanks in advance! :)

Congrats on your first time to the gym! :) Kuu accompanies me on my trips to the gym all the time. Some additional ones I have on my playlist for workouts:

Black Candy
UNIVERSE
BUT
Black Cherry
Bounce KOZMŽ Remix Lucas Valentine (I know you said no remixes, I really love the fast pace of this remix)
TABOO

I'll let others chime in with some more; a lot of my workout songs are Kumi remixes so I'll spare you the rest. ;)
