too low for a second day, I expected at least 15k :/

polka-dot-jewel 13th August 2009 05:18 PM

lol Seriously, this is just like MW and t2m all over again... MW to see if she'll really keep her #1 spot, and t2m because of the low sales. Unless her weekend sales really increase, I wouldn't be surprised if her sales total around 70k.

I'm not too worried about the sales. Nowadays, I think Ayu's just releasing music to release it, and she's definitely focused more on touring. But, based on the sold out concerts, of course that would be something she would focus a bit more on.

I'm not sure though if it will help anymore to make the singles eye candies.
Look at kuu's 3 SPLASH, it was just an eye candy single with 3 versions with 3 different covers, 3 songs, interludes, PVs etc.
But it still doing worse than even the collaboration single with her sister misono.
It might help for longer chart life somehow but go figure if multiple versions and first presses will be helpful in the future.

hahaha.. hopefully it doesnt mean they make multiple version.. I hope thats the sign for another triple or quadruple A side after that....
it's been 6 years looooh

ayumisrael 13th August 2009 05:27 PM

^Same comment as my previous. xD

I sure hope ayu would do a 3,4 A-side single again!!
But her only more than 2 A-side singles are the summer singles. T_T

AMANDABYNES 13th August 2009 06:15 PM

Oh My!! What a dissaster! Another flop!

My poor AYU :(((((

RikkuChii 13th August 2009 06:57 PM

Wow.

Uhm..go Ayu?

..but seriously, did anyone expect this single to sell like MW or GREEN/Days did?

Two subpar songs, atrocious covers & boring PV's?

This single was destined to not sell well.

I hope she doesn't lose her #1 streak, though.

SunshineSlayer 13th August 2009 07:03 PM

^ considering this is a fun summer song, yes. I expected it to sell more than MW and Rule but maybe not as much as Days.

It's sad to see that Ayu's sales have fallen to almost MM levels these days. In fact Ayu dropped more than MM did - and that's no small feat considering both artists usually have big drops, but rarely does someone have as big drops as MM these days. In some ways though, I can understand it.

Highly doubtful. Boybands are really a part of the culture over there. Its not like they just suddenly became popular a few years ago. Boybands have been there since basically the start of Japanese pop music - they aren't really seen as something bad or shameful over there.

No chart ever has Chaku-uta and Chaku-uta full combined. (as already explained) and even if they did, 750,000 is still a ways off from 1 million.

zyoeru 13th August 2009 07:41 PM

It sucks that my favourite Ayu single's sales aren't good...oh well things will be okay!

750,000 is still not a number you can say that is unpopular or a small number though.
Nothing that is not a million is not a million of course but it's still a ways above the half of a million which the number itself is considered great.
I do remember that avex in what of their PDFs wrote that Together When... had 970,000 digital downloads in total. I'm not sure if they fabricated the numbers or if RIAJ don't count all of the downloads websites or something of that sort.
Also on kuu's official website they wrote that stay with me had 3,500,000 or 2,500,000? legal downloads while the single sold 65,000, I wonder if it's fabricated as well.

Also even if it's a summer single, as we know ayu's popularity keeps dropping through the years the sales between her summer singles drop each time.
BLUE BIRD sold around 256,000, glitter/fated sold around 165,000 (100,000 difference), and S/S will sell around the 100,000 (each is a 50,000-70,000 drop) it's only natural as it seems that ayu still didn't create something to maintain her popularity or take it up again, (and it seems that avex doesn't too probably both sides don't highly care for it or ayu or whoever).
It's just your usual ayu summer single. With each year passing, if it's what it will stay in, that's what will keep happening.

SunshineSlayer 13th August 2009 08:53 PM

^ Yeah, of course I'm not saying it sold bad just that it didn't sell the ginormous amount of copies people seem to think it sold. :)

btw, I was pointed to Amazon (by 2ch) and it seems this single is not nearly as well received as her past singles in terms of reviews: http://www.amazon.co.jp/Sunrise-Suns...ref=pd_sim_m_1

Evolution7/4 13th August 2009 08:55 PM

^Interesting. On iTunes its recieved glowing reviews.

noidea 13th August 2009 09:01 PM

oh my....this is one big flop...I expected the japanese to love this single...a summer song and a ballad(though I myself think these sales are still too much for such an IMO crappy single), I hope she keeps her streak at least

The only difference is that Kumi doesn't have the fan base of the same size.

Ah well I personally don't mind multiple versions, it's better to have many versions to choose from even if the covers are similar.

I'd say it's obvious Ayu might have a tough time selling her singles physically, that doesn't mean the songs aren't popular, as obviously they are doing well digitally, just that AVEX needs to make her singles more worthwhile, Rule/Sparkle had the remixes, posters and the package was cool - I am not blaming Ayu, as I think the music and the songs are just fine, just that when it comes to marketing AVEX isn't doing the best job imo.

That same page says NEXT LEVEL was rated 5/5 by the reviewers. You can never be sure with those, as both the hard core fans and the hard core trolls are posting. I am not saying those don't reflect the opinion of general public, but it's hard to reflect it with just 30 opinions.

Anyways, I didn't say TW... sold million+ just that it was close to million than you originally posted :)

Did ayu break a new record or something?

http://www.oricon.co.jp/news/rankmusic/68392/

^is it just the continuation of her streak?

Its nice to see what ayu's sales are like with only 2 versions and no extra goodies. Of course compared to her old standards, its low but compared to nowadays as a female solo artist, she's doing quite well imo.

Kingdom 13th August 2009 11:04 PM

wow.. the second day sales were really unexpected.. more than half her first day drop :(

^Ditto.
Stop calling it a flop. Sure it didn't do as well as some expected but its not a flop. Pessimism is a disease here.

lol I will agree with that for reasons I mentioned earlier.
Also getting some first days sales from past singles threads, it seems that for all of the singles since 2007 has a it's a flop/it's so low 5-6 first pages comments.

I guess people have to get used to the new standarts until ayu puts out smashing hits and avex will startegy her accordingly.
