Utada said, "How about you sue me. That'll get me more promotion than you've ever gotten me. I just want promotion.

They said, "Why yes my dear."

Unbeknownst to Utada, by promotion, they meant waiting for her to release Japanese Material to release a Best Of containing all of her English "HITS" in an attempt to piggy back to the bank.

They still failed and didn't piggy back to nothing but a piggy bank with some quarters, dimes and nickels.

Utada said, "I can't mess with ya'll anymore."

Island Def Jam said, "We can't mess up your English Career anymore."

So they parted ways, Utada took a hiatus to go eat at McDonald's and Island Def Jam took a moment to donate all the proceedings of the Best Of to a cause in need: themselves.

Seriously though, they called her up and asked her when she was gonna get busy and she said okay.

She wasn't really inspired to do anything in that moment at all.

OMG Epic :roflmao

Oh yes, Precious. The Cubic U album. :D I personally like it too. My favorite songs on that album are My Little Lover Boy, How Ya Doin', I Don't Love You, Ticket 4 Two and Lullaby. Of course, I prefer her japanese stuff because those have more meaning, but there's nothing wrong with her english stuff too. It's just really different XD

I actually like My Little Lover Boy, Precious Love, and Close to You from her Precious album lol. But that type of R&B is way too slow for me.

Not Fade Away 15th August 2011 08:10 AM

It depends on my mood LOL if I'm feeling old school I'll listen to precious

Well... Japan is the 2nd biggest music market in the world, and on most Asian countries, 10k, 50k, 100k are huge sales...

NintendoHTF1242 18th August 2011 03:09 AM

Well, I don't see anyone else now outselling the 7+ million copies of First Love lol

Polyrhythm 18th August 2011 04:42 AM

Well, it's cause I know that some countries count digital sales as part of official sales.

Japan still have the biggest digital sales... even so, not even in the USA there are people selling more than 7m albums on digital sales....

also, if I'm not wrong, First Love sound around 10m worldwide...

Not Fade Away 18th August 2011 05:42 AM

^You're right. It did sell 10+ million worldwide.

And that was BEFORE digital sales, lol, so basically Utada ROCKS!!!

:D:D:D:D:D

3 of her albums are in Japan's top-selling albums of all-time.

Those being:

(1)First Love
(3) Distance (I think it's #3?)

and I think Deep River is #10, but again....not too sure.

If Utada had released as much as Ayu during her prime, she probably would have sold even more than Ayu (though I obviously can't say that for certain).

As well all know, however, Utada is not the most frequent releasing artist, lol.

bluegie 18th August 2011 09:43 AM

Distance is no. 4 on all time best selling album, while DR is no. 8. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...lbums_in_Japan)

I think probly someone can still break into top 10 (~3.5 million copies) with some sort of miracle, but it will be hard to get into top 7 (4 million+).

Andrenekoi 18th August 2011 02:09 PM

She also had the best selling album of the year 4 times... First Love, Distance, Deep River and Singles Collection^^

bluegie 18th August 2011 09:54 PM

... and yearly no. 1 single once :D: Can You Keep A Secret?
traveling: yearly no. 2 I guess (ayu got no. 1 that year --> H)
COLORS: yearly no. 3
Flavor Of Life: yearly no. 2

Not Fade Away 19th August 2011 01:13 AM

Basically this means she rocks and should come back to us...just sayinn

Andrenekoi 19th August 2011 02:06 AM

If Hikki wasn't on hiatus, she wouldn't have released anything new anyway...

She still wasn't out for enough time to be a lot more than her usual :P

Maemi 19th August 2011 07:40 PM

I've just realized how much are those 4 songs (except the cover) beyond EPIC, and by realizing that, I realized how much I miss Hikki, already, and how much I'm going to miss her awesome voice, lyrics, musical arrangements and everything else.

Polyrhythm 19th August 2011 07:53 PM

^Agree. They were all polished and perfected (compared to the tracks on TiTO maybe).

amorphose 21st August 2011 01:40 AM

I miss Hikki. :( It'd be cool if when she does return from her hiatus, if she were to release English and Japanese EP's simultaneously. :heart That's definitely wishful thinking though. :laugh

& keeping with the earlier posts, isn't Flavor Of Life the 2nd most downloaded song in the entire world in '07?

Polyrhythm 21st August 2011 02:13 AM

^Behind Avril Lavigne's Girlfriend.....uh....yuck lol.

Utada Hikaru and Ayaka to make a comeback?

Lately, there have been many rumors of several female singers who are currently on hiatus and that these artists are preparing to make their return to the music industry. The first person in question is Utada Hikaru. Last August, she announced that she will be going on an indefinite hiatus starting in 2011 to focus on ‘human activities’.

A person involved in management stated, “Producer Miyake Akira, who is also known as the founder of Utada Hikaru, transferred to Pony Canyon in June, and created a brand new label. In the music industry, there have been rumors saying, ‘Will Utada transfer to Pony Canyon also?’ However, Miyake is under contract with EMI, and he plans to continue working with Utada Hikaru. At the earliest, she will step forward to make a comeback in the first half of next year.”

On twitter, Utada Hikaru tweeted that she has installed music software onto her new computer, showing that she has been persistent with her creative activities. It also seems that her relationship with Fukuda Tenjin is going smooth, raising expectations of a return.

On the other hand, another singer who is most certain to make a comeback is Ayaka, who is on hiatus with Graves’ Disease. In her case, there are rumors that she will re-debut under avex.

The same management as mentioned above claims, “Ayaka made a sudden and unexpected marriage announcement to Mizushima Hiro, offending many people around her that caused her to resign from her agency. She has been receiving offers from avex, and has been greeting their affiliated companies. It is said that her time of ‘purifying’ will end within year. She is expected to sell several hundred thousands of CDs, and it seems she’s secretly preparing for recording.”

There have also been reports of the comeback of Ohguro Maki, who is on break due to uterine disease. Additionally, former Takarazuka Revue member Shibuki Jun is expanding her writing career, and is said to appear at various events.
