Bad girl or not, the girl still seems void of a personality to me. I suppose personalities like that work for some people, but not me.

^ Just curious. Do you watch things like backstage footage and interviews too, or are you basing this only on her PVs (and TV performances)?

I agree her PVs are pretty void of personality edit: Actually, now I think about it, I haven't seen many of her PVs, so I can't judge haha.

Her PVs are filled with girlfriends and cellphone miracles.

if and and aitakutex2 PVs were nice.

I do watch all backstage stuff, etc. She's still one of my favorite artists. For me, its both a mixture of her lack of personality in media, We Can't Stop being a great example, and the interviews and stuff. She might laugh and be cute, but she still doesn't really sparkle for me. I mean, at this point I have more or less accepted that she really just is vanilla, I just expected chocolate to pop out here and there once upon a time. I get a hint of it in songs like Candy, but who knows.

I think what bothers you it's a mix of her not taking risks musically and her general lack of depth. I mean, she has these themes she holds dear (love, friendship and happiness) and I respect her for staying true to her inspirations, but the thing is becoming a little redundant. There's only so much you can say about the same subject over and over again.
I'm lucky enough to enjoy her way of doing things and not get bored (yet). Her formula works for me. I take those little sparkles of innovation (like FANTASY and CAMERA, LIGHTS, ACTION) and I'm content.
Of course, she NEEDS to build a better stage presence. But I think she's getting better, perfomance after performance.
(And I'm stopping here, because I'm a major stan and if I keep going, I may end writing an essay, lol. Kanayan is actually my second japanese favourite singer, after Ayu! <3)

Haha, you're probably right. I guess for me, her themes have gone a bit stale because I've been a fan since pretty much the second she released her debut single. Its been a long time. I've always held on to the hope that one day she would break out of her vanilla shell. And kinda realizing its not gonna happen makes me wonder if the vanilla is really her, or all her record label? And maybe that's my biggest fear: the realization that the singer whom I'm been a fan of for so long, since the first second, might not actually be... her, just a product of her label. Or, is she really just so vanilla and I've never going to see any growth, which would be a little disappointing.

I follow her from the beginning too! (Well, from MAKE UP single)
I personally never felt she's acting, I'm always really warmed wherever I see her in programs or shows. I never had the feeling her "purity" is an act. Maybe it's because I know people like that, so I don't find it hard to believe someone can just be as soft and warm as a melted chocolate, lol.
And I think she's grown a lot, just not in a traditional way!

Her voice doesn't exactly have that tough girl edge. Yes she does the sweet and cute very well but edgy? I've yet to hear it from her. Still working on listening to more of her songs.

Beautiful covers. Although, from the bridge of her nose / upward her hair needs a little more volume / curl. The way it's flat makes the curls look like an underneath attachment/weave/extensions. Othewise, that hairstyle would look great on her.

These covers exude an "autumn time" feeling.

NintendoHTF1242 22nd July 2014 04:51 AM
