^ lol thanks

The MV teaser is out! I'm in love so far omg

There's a rumour that Nicki Minaj is featuring on this however, and I'm not very thrilles about this tbh, but I hope it's false bc otherwise the concept is AMAZING

susiowong 22nd August 2018 10:49 PM

^ same. Miss me with that Nicki Minaj collab. Hopefully the rumor is just a rumor.

But the teaser? IM HYPE AF. The traditional instruments, visuals, and clothing got me feeling something and I'm here for it.

I think the song is dissapointing for me

thinkingoutloud89 26th August 2018 09:02 PM

^I think it is way better than Fake Love - they are overrated tho.

rainbow_smile 1st September 2018 12:44 AM

It's not my favourite title song of theirs, but I find it catchy and it keeps growing on me

mi|kshake 1st September 2018 06:01 PM

The song is not as good as Fake Love for me.

susiowong 1st September 2018 11:03 PM

I kinda agree with you guys that it's not the best-sounding release by them. Tbh I was a little let down after the teaser. However, it has grown on me since - one of those songs that's a grower I guess. Although I'm not a big fan of that whistle sound in the background? And the excessive autotune.

But I can imagine how HYPE it would be to see it live with the choreography.

rainbow_smile 1st September 2018 11:20 PM

I actually loved the teaser, much more than the actual song in fact LOL

mi|kshake 2nd September 2018 10:59 AM

Just read that Idol entered at number 21 on the UK Singles Charts. Wow, that's so amazing! Never thought I would see KPop or Asian music on the UK charts. It's amazing how big they have become in the West and am I right in thinking it's just all due to the fans?

Do they get any airplay on music channels or radio? Or is it all down to YouTube views, Spotify streams etc?

rainbow_smile 2nd September 2018 12:00 PM

^ I wouldn't say they're mainstream in the west but they're becoming bigger and bigger, it's mostly thanks to fans but also their fanbase keeps growing more and more, and it kinda looks like once someone from GP starts liking them they eventually turn into an ARMY haha

They get a bit of radio airplay in the USA, as well as interviews (including Ellen DeGeneres show, Jimmy Kimmel, James Corden), they've attended a couple of Awards shows in the USA... A lot of US artists expressed interest in them (whether it's genuine or just for clout we'll never know), so I'd say they're still phenomenal even though they're not "mainstream".

I can't say whether all spotify/youtube streams are coming from ARMYs only, or also from GP too though, but even so it's still thanks to fans since they were the ones to push BTS so hard in the first place, back when BTS used to be nobodies even in Korea.

But that's the USA. UK is a different story :laugh They don't get as much recognition here, radios still seem to ignore them (moreso than in the USA). There were a couple of radio stations playing DNA and Fake Love. And also BBC Radio 1 played IDOL, like, 1 or 2 hours after it was released.. But also despite them charting at #21, MTV didn't air their music video when announcing the Official Singles Chart ranking because "Unfortunately there's no official video for Idol, so we're moving on to the next spot" lmao

Speaking of the UK, I saw the BTS x Puma collab shoes in store at the Puma flaghip store in London yesterday ;-; And they've been showing the LG x BTS ad at Piccadilly circus for, like, 2 months already. They're selling the BTS albums at HMV too, not only in the kpop/world music section, but I've also seen Tear and Answer in the Pop/Rock section and the "New & Trending" shelves too since, like, June or something lol

adantatu2 2nd September 2018 11:22 PM

I think IDOL is better than Fake Love and DNA IMO.
I wonder why they didn't get big with songs like BS&T or Fire or Not Today.

rainbow_smile 3rd September 2018 01:34 AM

^ For me, Fake Love > IDOL > DNA haha

Hmm well, I think it has to do with their fandom growing gradually? They got bigger with each of those songs. Especially BS&T, I think, that's when they actually started becoming successful, and way more people became interested in them, hence they finally had enough fans to actually get them somewhere

susiowong 3rd September 2018 01:38 AM

BTS got #1 album on Billboard 200 (185,000 units/141,000 pure) and they are the first act to send multiple foreign language albums to #1 in a single year.

Good job boys

thinkingoutloud89 3rd September 2018 12:53 PM

^their fans doing tho

rainbow_smile 3rd September 2018 06:59 PM

^ so what?

susiowong 3rd September 2018 10:39 PM

^^ And? Like it's any different from every other kpop group in existence lol

Yes! Blood, Sweat & Tears and Not Today are the only other songs apart from Fake Love that I own.

I just find the phrasing strange...not just here but with every other group to. Hit songs in Kpop come from popularity and not from quality - especially obvious here. Its more like "IM happy for them" than a proud feeling.

Just because you don't like the song doesn't mean they didn't work hard for it and it's a bad song. We are fans of BTS because we like their music, not the other way around, that's why we're proud that they're getting these achievements. There's a reason why BTS have this popularity now despite starting from literally nowhere in a small company.

Also, this BB200 achievement is for the album, not just for the song ;)
