Well, I think the issue with Meisa is that she's very Western-influenced and also too beautiful.

The Japanese populace likes a certain type of female entertainer: one who is girlish, pretty, and innocent and who sings bittersweet songs about growing up or falling in/out of love. Meisa doesn't sing those type of songs and she certainly doesn't look very girlish - on the contrary, she looks very womanly - so those two things, I think, work against her having major success in Japan.

And, personally, I'm fine with that. Meisa's doing what she wants and it is connecting with an audience so she can't really be considered a failure in that respect. :yes

^definitely~~

I'm actually surprised she has a music career at all lol did she start out as a singer?

anyways~ we can't really go by sales these days anyway. Only one type of music is actually selling in Japan :laugh

I knew Kuroki as an actress 1st prior to her being a singer as I really adored watching her act in One Pound Gospel I got horribly Kame baited in the process XD & then Ningyo Helper

I was pretty skeptical to try her music but hellcat really blown me away big time & since then I've been a fan of her ever since :D

Since the very own beginning, it was her dream. Sweet Power scouted her as a "tarento" and focused her studies in acting and she used to practice street dance (I don't know for how long, though). Back in 2008, she "debuted" with Like This and then, because she wanted to take more lessons to be a better singer, she delayed her real debut to 2009.

Moreover, both Sony and gr8! records praised her a lot back in 2009:

My thoughts exactly. Many may disagree but everytime I see Meisa's as a singer, I remember of Koda Kumi. Meisa is on the music scene for 3 years already and had one big hit (LOL!) and a "medium" (?) hit (Wired Life) while Koda took 5 years to be big, which some hits as well. Sales, those days, won't say a lot about the artist (alan, by an example, is an awesome songtress but her sales won't make justice to her talent and awesomeness), so let's see what her and her label will prepare to us. :3

PS: Sorry for my bad english. ;_;

Further proof on why she's 1 of my fave artistes that I always tend to have a girl crush on even though I'm 95% straight XD

just dropped in to say that Hellcat is still her best album for me, and I remeber all songs by heart, still. :P
I need this Meisa from Hellcat

kthaxbye :D

CHE.R.RY 25th December 2011 10:49 PM

^ Oh really? I kind of think it's her weakest...In all honesty, I didn't become a TRUE BLUE Meisa fan until her first full length album - Magazine. I thought the songs were really strong on the album & showed off Meisa's unique & diverse musical style. I hope her next album is as good as the last one.

ayu_ready? 26th December 2011 04:15 PM

I became her total fan with this one. it's a bit old-fashion though. in sound & everything :P

adantatu2 27th December 2011 05:05 AM

I'm fan since 5 -FIVE- (I remember the cm, "She is hot", XD)

pommy48 28th December 2011 12:14 AM

I was a fan with SHOCK -unmei- :luv2
But I only like MAGAZINE...barely listen to hellcat or ATTITUDE lol

CoriKaru 28th December 2011 12:31 AM

Been with her since "SHOCK" as well.

Really like "hellcat".
Hate "ATTITUDE". "Late Show" was the only thing worth it.
Haven't heard "MAGAZINE".

FIRSTKLAS 28th December 2011 12:43 AM

I got into Meisa with hellcat thanks to an early leak at BoAjjang a few weeks before the mini album was released. I downloaded it, loved it, and promptly ordered the limited edition from YesAsia.

It was the first time I was able to be a fan of an artist at their official debut. :heart
