• making private details about her relationship and marriage with Mannie public
• making private details about her relationship with Maro public
• saying in a very direct way she doesn't give a fuck about what the japanese public and her japanese fans think about her and her actions
• leaving her fans alone and moving to the US
• Party Queen covers
• a lot of PVs
• musical direction
• etc. I'm sure I forgot something

Like she made clear she regrets she was running away to the US. But she was running for a reason and if she regrets runnig away she also has to regret other things. Problem now: is it about the choices regarding her personal life only or also about her music? We don't know. And that's why I don't know how to take her work in the last, let's say 3 years, serious anymore. And I actually like the music she made during that time.

Once again, judging by statements she's made outside of songs, it's probably both. It is possible to regret quite a lot of things at once and write lyrics about your feelings from reflecting on past mistakes.I don't see why she needs to say explicitly what she regrets. Does she ever do that lol? Does she state who the people are in her love songs? No, but it could be anyone. She can save that for other mediums. The beauty of these lyrics also is that people can still imprint their own personal meaning on them.

Whatever she did at the time reflects her thoughts and feelings at the time. So even if she regrets it later, it represents her at a point in time.

I think people forget that artists are still people with feelings. Of course some intentions are different sometimes. But they can still be sincere. And have regrets, feel embarrassment, change, etc. Ayu's clearly gone through stuff in the past. Life happens

When I read lyrics like that, I always wonder why the relationship from an artist to fans and vice versa is called love. I mean, there's no direct relationship to refer to, if you know what I mean. I'd describe it with another word. But not love. Isn't it more the love for (her) music, which's holding her and her fans together?
It's probably just my personal feeling.
But I feel kind of strange... (uncomfortable? too exaggerated?) addressed like that as a fan.
Overall those lyrics from Sorrows sound far too personal to me - I'd never expected them to be for fans. I don't know how to describe how I feel.
Though if I like the song, its music, it doesn't matter in the end. :laugh

I agree with this 100%. Feel a bit uncomfortable to read lol. She doesn't love me, I don't love her, but we're together with the love for music IMO.

Pop music is by definition vague, because the listeners needs space to project themselves into the feeling the lyrics are conveying. If Ayumi directly address personal issues people fail to identify with it and the song loses it appeal. A good example would be Party Queen, a whole album full of songs where she talks about specific personal stuff, stuff that only her can really relate to, and considered by most of the fandom her worst release to date.

That being said, Ayu has no obligation of opening about her personal life to a bunch of spoiled cry babies that aren't her family, her friends or even know her in person, just because they bought her music.

Or, in her own words:

Quote:

You should’ve done this like that
You should’ve done that like this
I know I can count
on you never being satisfied

"Remember the way you were
when we met, sometimes"
Don’t make me laugh
That’s my line, you know

I’m not anyone’s outlet
for complaints

That’s right, you don’t understand
I don’t show you
You don’t know the real me
I don’t feel like sharing
I don’t plan on explaining myself
I’m mine only

Actually, I think most people think that LOVE again is her ~worst~ and not Party Queen, which seems to have gotten the NEXT LEVEL-oh-wait-a-minute-I-think-I-like-it thing going for it as far as I've seen.

• Releasing LOVE and again as "mini-albums" and then releasing LOVE again with tracks from both "mini-albums" onto the album
• Mannie and Maro in her PVs

I think I'm the only one who actually LIKES PQ covers/booklet?. They are diffrent/uncompromising.

it wasn't like that they fell "in love" (Mannie) during the PV's? Cause Mannie PV's are still great pieces of music videos and whole marriage was right before after...

Andrenekoi 13th July 2015 08:22 PM

^I like pretty much everything about PQ... :P

Ok, minus the NaNaNa video.

DevilsClap 13th July 2015 08:33 PM

^I prefer NaNaNa the song over the PV.
It's not bad but nothing I would wanna watch over and over

Andrenekoi 13th July 2015 08:37 PM

^ Song-wise, I love pretty much every single one from PQ. It's my 2nd favorite album from her.

PQ really fails as a concept for me.

I should be identifying with it but I don't at all lol

tokyoxjapanxfan 13th July 2015 11:52 PM

Frankly I am person that finds it extremely difficult to own up to my mistakes. Doesn't matter if they are big mistakes or small ones. So the fact that Ayu is owing up to her mistakes and saying ''hey I messed up, please forgive me, don't give up on me'' gets to me. Actually I admire everyone who can own up to their mistakes because I know is something that's hard for me to do. I find the lyrics truly beautiful. Doesn't matter what she actually is referring to. I mean, I wouldn't mind if she sat down in an interview and confessed: ''here is the list of things that I regret and this is what I meant with this song'' but its not a requirement for me to love and appreciate this lyrics. :yes
