i think she is selling rather well for the lack of promotion that avex did for this...
I mean I have been told that most people didn't even know she had an album coming out! |

I have thought seriously that Five and Party Queen are under-promoted. They weren't promoted as much as her other albums. Five had no singles. Party Queen has only HBYA and four PV's. Maybe she's in an idgaf kinda mood lately?

I'll say I'm surprised I was right in my personal guesstimate for the numbers thus far. I expected her name to sell more from the first day. But the analysis of some other users is starting to make sense: between the poor art/videos (compared to her previous works--I don't care how much some people said they enjoyed it) and poor last minute marketing, it's not as surprising.

Hm. The fact that she can still debut in the top two slots after all these years is a feat in and of itself. She doesn't exactly have the selling power she did ten years ago, so I'm impressed with the fact that she can still shake up the charts with a new release. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that she took more stylistic risks with this new album. I really hope she continues to push herself sonically and lyrically.

if there were some promotion on tv like live performances and etc. I'm sure she'd definitely had 1st place.
ayu, avex, if you are still interested in this business, you need to understand that time has changed and now you guys need to fight for the 1st place and good sales ;) |

Woahhhhhh so much drama.. She's still like, 7k ahead of kuu's JAPONESQUE 1st & 2nd day sells and Kuu dropped really fast that week and still managed 98k. If Party Queen keeps it up, 100k 1st week is in the bag. What more do you guys want?

The sales are pretty good considering the current landscape of the Japanese music industry. AKB manages to sell like crazy, but there are a million reasons why they do that Ayu doesn't satisfy any of (it's also their singles that sell so well, not albums), which is good for her that she can still sell 100k in the first week (I'm sure she will at this rate) with ZERO promotion and singles leading up to it. I'm happy with the sales. I was actually expecting worse.

^ But FIVE was exactly the same (no singles, no promotion) and had a stronger 3-day total AND was a mini-album. Half a year is not a long time and definitely not long enough to see a fall this sharp and contribute it to the falling sales of CDs or a lack of promotion. This is definitely not it this time.
There should also be interest in this release given her divorce not so long ago. I was expecting that to show in the sales. This time, it might have to do with the product itself. The artwork is one. The PVs are another. The songs (besides for the middle section and HBYA) and not tracks where people would turn to Ayu to hear. And I daresay Timmy's face being plastered in everything is probably turning away Japanese fans as well. |
