So then you PREFER her performance at Kouhaku when she sang Together When... Nothing has improved to you since Ayu announced her hearing loss? Okay.... :rolleyes

Maybe that's why Sunrise/Sunset wasn't that great to you :P

Everyone has their own opinions on her voice. I still think sometimes she sounds bad, but for the most part she sounds good. There's no reason to argue over someone's opinion...really.

Sorry but I agree with her... even uf Ayu wasn't sounding amazing after she discovered of her hearing loss (and had she ever sound amazing?), her vocals are getting better since them. It's your right not liking how her voice sounds right now, but u disliking it doesn't mean that she had no improvement...

And yeah, I liked sunrise lives... she was sounding as bad as she did before noticing she was deaf, what was a relief imo

aura~ 7th December 2009 11:53 PM

I also think she has improved her vocals...

I just remember A BEST 2 promo, glitter lives - OMG they were terrible! - t2m, together when - some where good, but by this time I remember how everyone considered she did a good live even if she went off key a few times -, CDL 07-08 was IMO her worst concert vocally since CDL 2002-03, MW lives where bad too... was with a-nation 08 and Days that a miracle happened or something, she improved a lot since MW lives... AT 08 where also better vocally... PCDL were great! and also a-nation 2009 was great!

I've seen an improvement... and aslo her voice has changed... singing better doesn't mean singing as she did in 2005... IMO

Oh gosh.. the Together when... lives :(
Everything was so beautiful... ayu, her outfits, the backgrounds.. but her voice was just really bad. Although there was ONE that I thought she did really good.. but the rest were just so sad. I think ayu's voice just changes a lot. She has bad lives and good lives. One day her voice can sound awful and another day it can sound really good. But I think her voice has improved since 2008 and she hasn't been using her vibrato as much live unless it fits in the song, and it doesn't sound so unusual. She used to basically put vibrato into every song even when it didn't fit, it annoyed me so much. But she has toned it down and there is definitely an improvement IMO. Now she should just work on not yelling so much.

No, I've been consistently saying that ever since the end of 2006 her vocals have been getting worse. And no, in terms of vocals, definitely there has not been improvement. I'm not even going to count her concert dvds and a-nations because those are all extremely edited. When it comes strictly to tv performances only, I have not been hearing any improvement. She'll have a few moments here and there during lives, but I am speaking in general. Now if it is a song like Days, she seems to not have as much trouble because it is a song that seems very comfortable for her current level of vocals; but that doesn't mean that the vocals are actually "good" to begin with. I would love to hear what Days would have sounded like with her vocals from 03-05.

AyUta 8th December 2009 12:17 AM

Hm, so then when will we get to see the You Were + Rule performances?

Wait, what? Why is she performing Rule?! Are these on two separate shows? I'm a bit lost sorry... xD;

nemesisyume 8th December 2009 12:21 AM

I think she has had some ups and downs vocally

like 1998 - 2000 she sounded well... it wasnt WOW
and then 2001 - 2002 she sounded amazing

tour of secret was incredible but then later with talkin 2 myself and stuff
it was just something I didnt want to hear and I think after the Mirrorcle World
lives she started improving much again. AT 08 was already so much better than CDL 07-08.

and then when she sang SEASONS and Days live at FNS I think she sounded great.
and well @ PCDL her vocals were pretty damn good in my not so humble opinion
it was something I actually really enjoyed watching.
and a-nation this year was just as good +++ plus AT 09 what I've seen sounded
pretty nice tho it wasnt perfect all the time.

SunshineSlayer 8th December 2009 12:25 AM

^ But all of those things that you listed as good are extremely debatable as to how much of it was actually live and/or not edited to sound better in post production. I mean its not even debatable actually that Ayu's concert dvds are very edited. I always think for any artist, the only accurate barometer of their live singing ability is usually their performances on music shows and I have to say that Pride at FNS 2005 was probably the last time I was blown away by her vocals on tv. She had some nice ones in 2006 too, but not like omg amazing.

So ayumi can't possibly EVER sound good live right? Anything that sounds good must be edited or lip synched in your eyes. K then.

lol, why do people always take it to that conclusion? That makes no sense to even say, especially when I just got through listing times when I thought she sounded really good and/or great. There are plenty of times she has sounded good live, even excellent and they were definitely not lip synched or edited. But it is basic fact that YES her concert DVDs have always been edited in the sound department. So how can you possibly point to those as examples of how good her vocals are?

so at CDTV Super Live, Ayu sang You were... and Rule. She wore a pinky fluffy dress (my roommate said モコモコ/mokomoko, which is like...furry, i thought... but i'm not sure...) and then she came out with her dancers in her bondage-y outfit to sing Rule.

Andrenekoi 8th December 2009 12:40 AM

Well, I was impressed with Ayu vocals on TV only 3 times:

Haru yo, koi at Music Fair
Desire with Akina Nakamori at Ayu Ready
Pride at FNS

-

other than that, she usually is from "ok" (her good lives) to "please, die!", with some few good ones here and there and in the end of the day, her best vocal performances come from concerts (considering tv versions of CDLs)... So, I don't get why people are expecting Whitney Houston from Jennifer Lopez...

Sunset ~LOVE is ALL~
Music Fair - Good

Sunrise ~LOVE is ALL~
all performances - Good

Days
FNS - Good
Music Station - Good
CDTV - Good

SEASONS
FNS - Good

I don't know if these are unedited enough :shrug
just a second I'll call ayu and ask her to call you so she can sing live for reals

:roflmao

You win, baby!

Yeah I thought SEASONS was amazing! I have that performance somewhere. I hope she sounds as amazing as that.... or should I not since it was probably a bad performance anyway...

I'm really looking forward to see the transition from You were... to Rule! I guess in a way those songs could go together, it's very interesting and unpredictable :P

I clearly said how can you point to her concert DVDs as evidence of her vocal ability. Those are all tv performances, which I also said are clearly live. So I don't know what the problem is. I disagree with them actually being classified as "good" though. :)

Those are some of her best ones I think. There are several more that could be added to that list though. Just about any AYU Ready performance was great, or basically anything from 2003 actually. And I would take almost any performance (even the a song for xx ones) that are pre-2006ish/2007ish over any of her more recent ones. :)

ANYWAYS, to bring this back on topic. I am wondering if the reasons she seems to be doing less performances on tv this year (and now doing a pre-recorded performance instead of a live one for CDTV) has anything to do with her being worried about her vocal ability. Maybe it has nothing to do with it, but its just a thought.

Sorry, but on my list, are only those... and even so, she messes up with the vocals on everyone of them...

I just don't get why you said this in reply to nemesis:

Maybe if you said some of them were, but not all. It makes it seem like you think all of the possibilities that she thinks ayu sung good live must be lip synched or edited. Why don't you take a look over what she listed before you immediately jump into all of your negative thoughts that you enjoy having and posting about ayumi :)
