Let's take an american artist. someone that doesn't speak a word of japanese, taylor switft! its like her album fearless, is it? having every single song title in japanese. It would make no sense, she doesn't speak a word of japanese and you turn to the back of the album and see every single song title is in kanji like sotsugyo shashin, and anata ga shite kureta koto (yes, koda kumi!)

I don't even think ayu knows what they mean. she didn't speak a word of english till just a few years ago and I bet if we went years and years back and had her read us the track list off one of her albums. she wouldn't be able to do it. it would be just as weird as if every single song off an album of hers had a title in french or swahili. Really pointless unless your incorporate that language into it.

namie has tooons of english song titled...songs. but they all have tons of english in the lyrics and yes, she has a french titled song with no french in it (moi et tu? is it?) but that is one. you don't see her naming every song she has in french.

I cannot imagine evolution as 進化 (shinka,) CAROLS as キャロルズ (kyaroruzu), and Boys and Girls as 男の子と女の子 (otokonoko to onnanoko.)

The difference between the Taylor Swift and Japanese and Ayu and english is that in high school, there is an english class, so pronounciation of english is already known, even if theres an accent. In america, you dont have to take japanese one, right? so you cant compare. Japanese already know how to pronounce english ones, even if the meaning is not clear.

zyoeru 27th October 2009 07:21 AM

^ You sum that up nicely. Also Picaflor should realise that Namie doesn't actually name her songs as she doesn't write the lyrics. >_<

Okkkkkkayyy. But see, unlike japanese, English is pretty much the universal language. Singers from all over the world use english titles because they're most accessible. So it's NOT just as weird as a title being in french or swahili; It's english, and english is the most-spoken language on our planet.. :o Taylor Swift using Japanese titles would be weird, because Japanese is spoken mostly in one country - Japan. English is spoken everywhere - obviously to different extents in different countries - but still, more or less everywhere. Jeez... talk about trvial things to nitpick about :P

And I don't even know where to start with CoriKaru's post... :laugh

I guess Ayumi isn't taking that break she so desperately needs.

What? She's released 3 singles this year, one in February, one in August, and one in December. Those are long gaps for releasing singles, especially compared to Koda Kumi :S

And I wouldn't really jump all over her for the titles. I'm not sure if she's even writing these songs, but if not, odds are she's not titling them either.

First of all - "THE SUN SONG"? What? And you're suggesting that Ayumi Hamasaki isn't writing these songs? Again... What? Excluding the cover songs, she's written every single song in her discography. This is such an elementary Ayu fact that I can't believe I'm reiterating it here XD

While I agree that BALLAD is one of the worst titles ever, I think you take it to all new levels of hyperbole. Yes, the title of a song will keep you from ever being warm again. ever. :yes

that's a little different.

Usually people use Spanish song titles when it's a certain concept or something (if they dont have a hispanic background, speak spanish, etc), that only exists in that language, and would be weird in other ones, or not the same somehow, since it's really hard to translate to english.

Just pointing that out...I personally prefer the english titles, but I guess it is weird compared to other japanese artists...

Anyway...I hope Ballad is an upbeat song :yes

and...

I HOPE KAZU DOESNT SHOOT THE COVERS.

Honestly lol Kazu or not, NOTHING can possibly be worse than Sunrise/Sunset. Every time I see them I'm so embarrassed for her, him, me, and anyone else who happens to see it.

Minttulatte 27th October 2009 07:41 AM

lol at the BALLAD title. :D I really find it hilarious but it's also very original name for an song though. It's just that I didn't expet a song like this. :p You were and RED LINE sounds nice and Ayuish title. I'm interested in this single. :)

QFT. :laugh

Unfortunately those covers lowered Ayu's standards so much that anything would be better at this point...

aura~ 27th October 2009 07:58 AM

I think that by "THE SUN SONG" he's talking about "sunrise/sunset"

wow really, do you understand what they mean with this card thing?? I can't imagine what's about... That I'll be able to change the cover of my CD? xDDD

well, since I don't know anything about this single, I think I won't say anything about titles, songs that we haven't even heard, covers that doesn't exist, etc...

It's like being upset before someone hits you... you don't know if this person only wants to touch your hair ;)

tokyoxjapanxfan 27th October 2009 08:06 AM

actually, CAROLS in Japanese is 祝歌 (iwaiuta) which is even stranger to look at :P

it's almost never used by Japanese people, but that's technically what it is. :)

SURREAL__RAINBOW 27th October 2009 08:07 AM

OMFG who cares if the titles are in English or in Polynesian?!?!

I think the cards are changeable covers...someone from the previous thread posted an example what it might be. If it ends up being changeable cover cards, that would be great. There bound to be at least one that looks decent. Anyways, I'm really looking forward to this release. Hope we'll get more info soon~

Yukitora 27th October 2009 09:14 AM

actually evolution would've been JIDAI, not shinka. ayu has japanese titles for all her songs, then translates them (obviously), but some get lost in translation/different alternative words sound cooler in english.

But jidai means era/period.
Unless if you say that she wouldn't use the direct translation to Japanese. xD

We got to the randomest discussion in this thread lol.

Anyway I've been thinking that RED LINE ~for TA~ might not be a song about the red thread of destiny.
Maybe it's wrong but it could be a song about something different which would be, red lines. Like limit yourself to only things you would do or do things until a limit (like "I've got my red lines..."). and the ~for TA~ must suggest that she made that song for TA's request as of late that wished her to write and make more songs.
It could also explain why it is a RED LINE and not RED THREAD and if it will be up-beat or rockish then it will add to it but not neccesarily.
It really depends on the lyrics.
So there are those 2 options.

She should just start making all her titles in French.

Just for the hell of it.

let's see...what else can we discuss negatively about....

oh. I really hope she decides to pull in some new people, like especially new arrangers. I mean, who the hell arranges Sunset like that, to be, pretty much Sunrise, just with the tempo slower. I mean, I could have done that in Adobe Audition in like 2 seconds. wtf Ayu.

Were they the same people who did Next Level? Ew. I hope not. What a sad recent portfolio to have if they did.

In other discussions, do you guys think she'll bring back the composer? I don't think I mind him as much as those lazy arrangement people. And it was so nice to have a song like Sunrise (composition-wise) compared to...

well...the you-know-which album...

oh if it's something like what happened to the CD only limited edition of flumpool's debut single Hoshi ni Negai wo , that will be awesome because it contained 4 changeable hologram cards :heart

TeddyGrahams 27th October 2009 10:20 AM

Wow already thread number 2.

I want one DAI song, or DAIxCREA one. I love the song "NEXT LEVEL". I just want DAI to do something again since he usually make excellent songs.

I hope all three are ballads! I love Ayu's ballads. One can be a Moments -esque, Part of ME -esque, and then a JEWEL -esque. If not, make it 3 Techno/Rock/R&B songs.

Haha. CMJK arranged I believe who also did arrangements on I am... (opening Run, Naturally, still alone, Endless sorrow ~gone with the wind~), RAINBOW (everlasting dream, Real me, HANABI, everywhere nowhere) the arrangements of RAINBOW and Who... from A BALLADS, ourselves and forgiveness on Ma.
But he started doing a lot of arrangement since MY STORY...

i like that idea! and i love the NEXT LEVEL song too. it's so relaxing.
but it's already confirmed that 2 of them are ballads, so no chance for techno/rock/r&b for all 3. i'm picturing RED LINE to be kind of MY ALL-ish.
