...

This time, it might have to do with the product itself. The artwork is one. The PVs are another. The songs (besides for the middle section and HBYA) and not tracks where people would turn to Ayu to hear. And I daresay Timmy's face being plastered in everything is probably turning away Japanese fans as well.

Definitely agree that all of those were probably reasons for the decline in sales. FIVE had more promotion though, especially with progress being in a popular game and performed on TV (even Kouhaku). But also like you said, the quality has to have come into play as well. Every song on FIVE had a PV that was infinitely better in production quality than any of PQ's except Return Road. FIVE was also quite a bit cheaper because it was a mini-album yet still had just as long a DVD (one more PV and making-of than PQ's actually), which could have also factored into it.

It managed 98k? Nice! Longevity is better, I think.

SURREAL__RAINBOW 22nd March 2012 02:22 PM

I wonder if she might sell 15k+ all week? Since this week started a day early, should think of the first two days as a "first day"? If that's the case, we can expect Ayu to be around 10-15k tomorrow. Today is what would normally be the second day for most releases.

This is getting a little bit too scary here, but...

Yeah, I agree. :yes

I don't think Party Queen now deserve the #1. But the NINKI ratings...

Honestly, the only reason Ayu's been having #1 spots for a while now is because avex releases her stuff when there is no competition. Has anything Ayu related ever been released during a week when AKB48 released something? This is the first time Ayu's gone up against "competition" during a release, and its just showing her true sales. Its not a diss to Ayu or anything, its just the current state of the music market. She doesn't sell like she used to. Neither do many female artists who are not part of an idol group, save for like Namie or Kana because they are "cool" right now. I wish some of my favorite unknown artists sold like Ayu is doing now. It would be a miracle from Heaven, lol.

Yeah, I have a feeling that Ayu's doing her best and pushing hard to her limits. But Acid Black Cherry...man, the Janne De Arc soloist has the upper hand this time. And as you may have heard before, anything can happen...

Pieces_of_SEVEN 22nd March 2012 02:59 PM

Maybe the album will pull a Mirrorcle World...

you know I've been an ABC fan for the past 2 years but to see 2012 performing even better than I've expected , I'm really in awe

I really thought ayumi would hampen ABC easily & the fact that they're label mates , I thought that's that but looks like things are not as simple as it looks

but it's always really heartening to see whenever a dark horse would just swoop in & left everyone in shock which I should be included in

anyway I always dread it everytime my fandoms clash with each other & even if Party Queen has to settle for #2 , sure , I take it , it's not the end of the world for me . GUILTY didn't get #1 but it didn't stopped me from enjoying the album despite it being really dark

freedreamer 22nd March 2012 03:19 PM

Yea even #1 for a day would be nice...lol..this is kinda saddening :(

Even Kana Nishino's sales are dropping a lot again. Her latest album sold only a bit more total(340k) than her one before did in one week(290k, total 700k) and her single sales seem to be dropping, too.
The only female pop singers with consistently high sales that aren't having extreme drops are YUI and Namie(hard to say for her since she doesn't have the usual release pattern and her latest album was like a mix between compilation and new album lol) I think. And even YUI's latest album had a 20-30% sales drop. :thud

Just...really bad for female solo artists right now

jbrat2219 22nd March 2012 04:04 PM

She really might not get #1 this time. I'm not gonna lie, this predicament makes me want to try out the #1 album :laugh

mizuki-7 22nd March 2012 04:10 PM

It's diffrent Namie has change her style to make a music more actual ! when ayu was in her peak where was Namie ? her singles were sold 40k and album 200 k and the situation of solo artists was not the same as today lol it's not since a long time that she has returned to popular again !

Minttulatte 22nd March 2012 04:15 PM

#2 weekly isn't bad. It could be even worse than that if there was more competition with many, many idol groups. That would be even worse, meaning she might not even reach Top 5. o_O;;

I think I've heard some Acid Black Cherry songs few years ago... in 2008 actually. I just don't remember if they were good or not but I've acknowledged this music act for a while now. *think think*

relmy 22nd March 2012 04:28 PM

Kana Nishino isn't a good comparison for Ayu. Kana Nishino is primarily a digitial artist. Doesn't she sell like... twice as much digitally than she does on physical sales?

TeamAyu2004 22nd March 2012 04:45 PM

this is so sad.
But I guess number 2 is still good.
I hope it gets number one in the longer run... but i still notice that Ayumi's drops are less than ABC's.

FoObY 22nd March 2012 04:49 PM

#2 isn't a bad thing :P

Her #1 album streak has already been broken so whatever.

Going from 700k album sales to 350k in one year is still a pretty huge drop, and her digital sales are dropping from what I can tell, too. But yeah, she's still really big just seemingly past her peak now. Unless she achieves a second peak a la Namie which...I doubt.

In the end I'm not worrying about PQ though, 150k are already perfectly fine sales most artists can only dream of and I'm convinced she can reach that, this album was a gigantic risk in more than just one way AND not promoted much.

CHE.R.RY 22nd March 2012 04:59 PM

Wow we're gonna be lucky if this album sells 150k at this rate :thud

Times really have changed for Ayu...
