Of course she can ruin Sakura Nagashi and most of Hikki's ballads, it's the fact that her voice is not powerful enough to handle all that. That's why I'm hoping she will sing some catchy song as long as it is not Boku wa Kuma...

^ I believe her voice IS powerful enough! For me the only way she could "ruin" something would be because of the difference of pitch between the two of them. The only problem I can see with her covering sakura nagashi (apart from the vibrato of the death LOL) is that that song is beautiful because utada sings in the right pitch to suit the quiet and then powerful music. If ayu can pull that, we have a masterpiece!

Utada composed these songs for her voice not for another singer ... of course the difficulties will be quite high no matter the song ^^
It's like Ayu ! I heard a lot of cover of M even sung by stronger vocalists and nobody was able to deliver the emotion and sensitivity as Ayu ;)

I don't think I've seen many people suggest that they'd like to hear her cover "Automatic." I think she could do something really fun with that!

Does Hikaru have a powerful voice? Definitely not a word I'd use to describe her voice. Her high notes are really airy (They sound nice for the song, Hikari for example) and her voice is just light overall. I don't think Ayu would have any trouble covering any of her ballads. I have not heard Sakura Nagashi which I will do now :- D

But Hikaru can sing with such sorrow in her voice, which make you want to cry as soon as she starts singing one of her sad ballads. It would be interesting to see if ayu could match Dareka no Negai ga Kanau Koro. Such a sad song

I don't think Hikki's voice is (objectively) powerful either. That's just taking fandom to a whole other level. Ayu sings in a higher range, Hikki sings in a lower range. That's it. We're not talking Misia/Ayaka Hirahara-quality here.

I think Traveling would be a good choice. That song sounds like it was made for a higher pitch.

I hope she sings something from EXODUS


On the other hand I will always have a soft spot for Ayu's old-timey Jpop sound so if (HUGE IF) she could pull off a decent FINAL DISTANCE or Flavor of Life cover it could turn out pretty epic....into the danger zone imo if she decides to go in that direction...
