Yes, Gaga does... but this is an Ayumi forum, "voice" has no value over here! :P And if we are going to decide who is the best pop artist based on voice and singing skill, both Gaga and Madonna wouldn't make top20 anyway^^

I said "tribute" or "plagiarism"... Bad Romance (that I love to death) and Poker Face aren't really original songs in the sense that they don't really bring anything new to the game... What is ok as far as pop music goes. Gaga's act is made of references she took from past icons, what is not a bad thing at all, the problem is her lack of addressing the font of a lot of thing she does.

Madonna is exposing how similar to one of her hits Gaga's single is, she could do far worst than that, but she took the troll way of solving conflicts... I really enjoyed it when Gaga looked like a mix of the best things done in pop for the past decades, but she entered on a annoying "Madonna Wannabe" hype since Alejandro's video. Girl has talent and can go very far, but she can't really go there by trying to be other artists... The most Madonna is not the hottest girl on the game, her shoes are too big for anyone to fit, and I really hope Gaga stop the "New Madonna" game and starts being herself again.

Mirrorcle Monster 29th May 2012 12:42 AM

^ I think the whole Gaga being Madonna is really overreacted (dont knwo if this is the correct english word). Yes, she looked like Madonna a LOT on the Alejandro video, and YES Born This Way was a clearly inspired by Madonna and Whitney Houston. But the meat dress, thepyrotechnic bra, the living dress, the cigarrette glasses, the weapon bra.... I feel like many people like to say that Gaga is a copy of Madonna because they obviously ignore most of Gaga's career.
And Madonna already expressed how similar the songs were in an interview to promote her new album, there was no need to perform it on her new tour.

jean-baptiste 29th May 2012 01:00 AM

I don't think Madonna performing it was a slap in the face to Gaga. I think she's doing it just cause.

isthisLOL? 29th May 2012 01:12 AM

I think Madonna is similar to me in that aspect: She just think it's fun to mix up EY and BTW. The SNM mixed in is just the punch needed to make it super fun.
Weird Al mixed up BTW and a tiny bit of EY for Perform This Way as well, it came as a great laugh to most people I think.

If we wait 15 years nobody will remember Gaga well enough to compare them...xD

I love Gaga. I love Madonna. I'm not a stan for either. I've got floor seats to madonna's tour. All I will say is that this is a perfect way to make free publicity. And is also quite shady and desperate, and completely ruins any messages of anti-bullying Madonna is putting in this tour.. However, Madonna is a legend and influential for every female pop star in existence really. But at the same time, you can't just say no ones going to remember Gaga. I can't stand how everyone takes the two extreme sides!!

I will say though , does everyone know the whole reductive debacle was a misquote? They edited the video. madonna actually said that the media comparing the two songs is reductive.

Gaga is the one causing the comparations by making herself comparable. Alejandro is clearly inspired by Madonna, and I see no problem on that, is a very good video. Them she released Born This Way and it really sounded like Express Yourself, put some Michael and Madonna references on the video, used Madonna inspired outfits here and there, etc, etc.

Does the whole album sounds like a Madonna album? Nops. But them, during all the fuzz about her copying Madonna, she releases a single with a video whose theme is strongly linked to her on pop music, and the fuzz continued, and them she edited her concert on the same way Madonna did with her most icone movie, etc. The progression of her actions from Alejandro to the release of Monster Ball Tour where heavily inspired on the same artist people were accusing her of copying. From Edge of Glory onwards she finally stoped, but now Madonna is the one bringing this up... And... Well, I can't blame Madonna for doing that.... I would be pissed too :P

Evolution7/4 29th May 2012 04:27 AM

its not like gaga has never stated Madonna as an influence. Do you know Madonna was one of 3 artists she gave a special thank you to in her first album? All her early interviews she always stated Madonna as her major influence and the true Queen. Have you seen the interview with Gaga where she doesn't want to talk about her personal life and her friends so she doesn't go in depth, but does state that Madonna really is the reason why she was able to survive the press and continue with her career? Thats what perplexes me about all this. I always thought they were somewhat friends. Heck, does everyone forget about the SNL skit?? They were friends when they made that. like i said I am not making arguments. i love Gaga to death. I love Madonna to death. Not going to waste my time because I love the both of them.

Andrenekoi 29th May 2012 04:47 AM

So, why couldn't she just say "Yeah, this video/song/whatever was inspired by Madonna" or something like that? I'm pretty aware that Gaga cites Madonna as a influence frequently... But some stuff she did is like... Ayu's AT02. It's not someone taking influence, it's someone simply remaking what other people done before. What she is doing can't be considered a simply reference cuz it's not similar enough, but the influence is still there she confirming or denying... While both songs just sound the same, what is also something hard to explain.

As I said before, I think Gaga is really talented... She is a little green, as expected for someone with her time on the industry (as being succesful don't automatically makes you experienced), but for some odd reason she followed Madonna too closely, and IMO she needs to rethink some of her strategy unless her goal is to be remembered as a Madonna wannabe... In the end of the day, the sole fact that Madonna is out there for longer and is the main reference on her area makes hurts anyone who tries to follow her step like Gaga did sometimes.

koumori 29th May 2012 12:11 PM

The whole mash-up is petty and immature. Madonna as a musician should be happy that such a popular new artist is naming her as such an obvious muse, both through her words and her music. Songs sounding similar has happened time and time again through the music industry, and to apparently embarrass Gaga through this is just a little confusing as to the reason. I don't think Gaga would of intentionally released a song that sounded really similar to something else. She obviously took inspiration and they just didn't notice how obvious that would be. It's nothing wrong and for Madonna to make out as if it is, just screams "old lady scared of losing her throne, fights to stay modern through putting down competition". She doesn't realise that with her legacy, Madonna doesn't have to fight for her rightful title of "Queen of Pop". She'll always be a legend. New people will arrive and its something she has to accept gracefully.

People are stupid.

George 29th May 2012 01:25 PM

... It reeks of desperation. And what's worse is she used to adore Gaga and only started on blatantly ripping her apart when she was about to release her album.

PoetGirl 29th May 2012 01:31 PM

when I saw that I cracked up LOL. I doubt she's really pissed at anyone stealing her work LOL cause its not like madonna is queen of originality, but girl knows what will spread the word and maybe make even more money out of it.

Andrenekoi 29th May 2012 03:09 PM

Well.. I do think she may be pissed, some of her close friends dissed Gaga on twitter before... But I also think people who got offended or hurt by it, or even those who think she is doing that to "destroy" Gaga are taking things way too seriously...

In the end of the day, Gaga needed to allow her using the music... And I'm pretty sure she is well aware she IS enpowering Gaga by doing this... On the same way Gaga enpowers Madonna by inspiring herself on Madge's stuff.

BTW, isn't she singing "Respect yourself" between Born this Way and She's not me? Maybe the message was "I know you can do better than that, *****".

This. I think the Express Yourself/Born This Way/She’s Not Me mash-up is funny and cheeky . Honestly, at this stage in her career, I don’t think Madonna really gives a ****. She’s been quite complimentary about Gaga in the past, aside from the “reductive” comment, so I think she’s just doing it for giggles and attention. She’s just playing the game, I doubt she’s bothered at all by Gaga.

I agree. I don't see anything malicious about the mash-up. It could just be a joke for all we know. :shrug
