My first thought was 'Aw, cute, she wants to go travelling', but apparently a longer span of time off is planned, cause according to a info from her FC I saw on Baidu, her FC is closing in 2020.
|
I just saw the news on Twitter. I wonder how long she intends to be gone. I was thinking a year, but it's never a good sign if the FC is shutting down.
With Namie retired, and Kana stepping back, the female J-Pop scene is going to be in a weird place. |
Wow, overnight surprise right here. First 'bombshell' of 2019. At least this is a positive step compared to what we've seen with Ayu.
But I do have to somewhat agree with what lovethatkuu&ayu said above, "the female J-Pop scene is going to be in a weird place." Which female solo singer will step up to the occasion? Despite some criticism, I somewhat have to agree that Kanayan was the best female solo singer at the time (minus Namie). (Don't count Nogizaka46, who has been rising steadily, especially in 2018, and AKB48, as they're groups.) It will be interesting to see in 2019 which female solo singer will become 'the next big thing.' But I have to give credit to Kanayan for a well-deserved break! And I can't believe Kanayan is going to turn 30 in two and a half months (18 March)... This also makes us wonder if Kanayan will switch labels from Sony Music to something else once she goes back from hiatus. (I'm still not satisfied with SMEJ because of YouTube geoblocking.) |
I wasn't expecting this x.x I've been listening to her music a lot in the last years so I'm not really happy about the news but it's her decision after all. Hope she does whatever she wants in this period and then returns to music.
|
The first thing I thought was if she's getting married. Because to me, she is "that girl", who'd get married, have a kid and "that's that". I've felt like that's the type of a girl she sings about/for. Sad, cos I was in the hopes I could see her live later this year, but oh well. Hopefully she's happy and gets what she's after in life.
|
Wow I was expecting this! I hope she enjoys her time away but that she does also return to the industry.
|
Hope this bodes well for her music in the future since it’s been pretty generic and samey for the last few years.
You deserve the break, girl! |

wow, just as I was getting back into her :(

Just to inform - Japanese news today are saying that Kana plans to be on hiatus for 10 years and the first thing she's going to do is travelling to South America.
(and people are already speculating if she's in love with a South American :rolleyes ) I wish her all the best! |
10 years! LOL..this is pretty much an unofficial retirement.
I wish her the best. It takes courage to leave it all behind, and enjoy life on your own terms. |
Well, the news surprised me. I'm happy if she does it because she want to travel. On the other hand I can't stop to think that she leaves the music industry because of her age. 29 is such a hint. And I just can't accept this idea.
|
can someone post the lyrics to 29? I can't find them.
|
omg what news

Is this basically a retirement?! I'm surprised.
I've not really loved anything she's done in the last few years but I still listen to if regularly. All the singles around To love was such a fun Jpop moment, everyone was so excited! |

Amuro is inspiring even after the death of her celebrity-persona

Is that real, 10 years O_o !!!
OMG, I thought it would be a year for travelling. |

she needs to develop herself in new ways personally, and see if she wants to bring that back to music later. i've been keeping tabs on her, but her music just hasnt been really clicking or exciting for a while now. some of her releases featuring a slightly more mature image have been great (girls, moshimo..., i love you). it'd be great for her to push more outside what her career and image currently allow her and get to experience new things that way! i'll definitely be rooting for her journey, and happy if she decides to come back with a new perspective. |
