YUI, Shimizu Shota, and JASMINE release extraordinary “Play You” CMs

For the CMs, the three singers went out to find an inspiring sound to use in a new song; YUI chose to head for Sweden, while Shimizu Shota and JASMINE went to New York City. All three used the experiences from their journey to help create their new tracks.

YUI chose her theme to be ‘place‘ and ‘sound‘, or how a connection with a location can bring about beautiful music; the product of her inspiration came in the form of “Your Heaven.” Shimizu Shota decided his theme was to be ‘meeting‘ and ‘sound‘; he worked with a New York pianist he met and created “YOU&I.” Finally, JASMINE chose her theme to be reflective of ‘words‘ and ‘sound‘ – or how one must journey into themselves – resulting in the song, “ONE.”

The songs have all been posted on the “Play You” official website. So far, Sony has posted 30-second ‘In the Dark’ versions of each song, as well as an interview with the three singer/songwriters on their themes.

The ‘In the Dark’ CMs help to translate the musical expectations for the trio’s upcoming concert. All three singers will be a part of the “Live in the Dark” show at the Ebisu Garden Room, where they will perform completely in the dark in order to allow listeners to enjoy a heightened aural experience

YUI, Shimizu Shota, and JASMINE were all chosen as Sony Walkman’s new “Play You” project representatives. The trio recently got a chance to perform on December 12th at the Ebisu Garden Room as a part of the campaign called the “Live in the Dark” event.

The concept for the event was “I want to hear more clear sound“, and on that idea they held a special live event that occurred completely in the dark. YUI, Shimizu Shota, and JASMINE all performed on the dark stage for a small audience of 438 people, all randomly accepted from over 10,000 applicants. The lack of stage lighting and visuals allowed the excited fans a rare opportunity to focus entirely on the heart-felt singing from the three vocalists.

The first one up on stage for the night was JASMINE, who performed her new campaign song she wrote in New York, “ONE.” She commented, “A live in the dark is a new feeling, it’s fun,” as she captivated the audience with her vocals. The second performer on stage was Shimizu Shota. He performed his new song, “YOU&I,” along with “Kimi ga Kurasu Machi” and “Kimi ga Suki” in an acoustic style. Last on stage was YUI, who debuted her new project song, “Your Heaven“, that she wrote while in Sweden. She happily called out, “From now on let’s have fun at lives together,” as she finished up her act.

Footage from the campaign live will go up on the official “Play You” site on December 22nd. JASMINE has announced that she will be releasing a single version of “ONE” on February 2nd, and YUI will be releasing “Your Heaven” in January.

This is one of the few covers I liked at the first time I saw it. And the song is great , too.
