Yeah, Simple and Clean was actually done first. And when she wrote the Japanese lyrics, the chorus part just didn't fit with the original melody, so she had to re-composed that particular part. But she didn't want the original melody getting lost in the Japanese side, so she made a new song (Uso) which included that piece of melody.

Utada stated that she couldn't get the same meaning she wanted to portray in "Simple and Clean" as in "Hikari", so changed the chorus melody to the one used in "Uso Mitai na I Love You"

Oh and btw
Sanctuary (closing) >>> all other versions

I forgot where I read it (since it was over a billion years ago, damn you Hikki), but I believe that when she was writing Hikari, they asked her to write an English version for Kingdom Hearts, and she couldn't use Hikari's chorus melody with the lyrics she wrote because it wouldn't fit and didn't sound right. She took Uso Mitai na I Love You melody and worked it in to fit.

Isn't that the other way around...? :shakehead hmmnnn... need to find the info then. :P

Edit: there was even a thread talking about this: http://www.ahsforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=91126

and I remember when I read the Chinese translation of an interview back in 2003 (the time when COLORS was released), I think she said that she created Simple and Clean first. I wish I can find the original article to see which version is correct...

Minttulatte 21st January 2013 12:04 PM

I think I read somewhere that Hikari came first and Simple & Clean later but I may have misunderstood. My English was bad in 2006 anyway. :D

Now I'm in Hikki mood. Yeah♥

Yes I thought Sanctuary was the one that was written first (Simple & Clean came after Hikari).

Simple and Clean was translated from Japanese (Hikari) to English. It's very awkwardly composed (musically and lyrically) and totally inferior in comparison to the godly Hikari tbqh. Not going to say Sanctuary was THAT much better but at least it was an original.

Zahara 21st January 2013 11:05 PM

Simple and Clean was written after Hikari. Sanctuary was written before Passion.

The Wiki article has awkward English, which confuses me because of how it's worded. Is it just me that thinks that?

bluegie 21st January 2013 11:42 PM

That really confuses me then... cuz I reread some Chinese websites and they all said that Simple and Clean was written first...

Edit: Where can I find magazine interviews from hikki? I think she specifically talked about S&C/Hikari in a magazine interview in early 2003 (I think that's actually her first interview in 2003, as you know she didn't really have many interviews back in the old days).

Probably get *****ed out for asking, but if anyone can point me in the direction of the Dirty Desire remixes PM me please <3

amorphose 31st January 2013 05:41 AM

^They're on Spotify, if you use that.

Minttulatte 31st January 2013 09:56 AM

Dirty Desire remixes annoy me so much because of those orgasm noises in the background. Those really ruin those otherwise good remixes. :<

ahtka-chan 31st January 2013 06:54 PM

^Long time ago I made an edit version without those orgasms, but dunno where I put it.

Minttulatte 1st February 2013 12:33 PM

^Aws, if you happen to find it, I'd like to have it. ;_;
