Wow, I don't even like KK, but TABOO just impressed me. It's the best PV of the year so far!

YA! I definetely think ero-kakkoi kuu is back!

Celaphorce 20th September 2008 03:34 AM

I hate to bring this up since it's so old...but did anyone else think that had Kuu not made the controversial statement, Kingdom would have been the best selling album for a female up until Namie released Best Fiction?, It really nags me, It was a superb release on Kuu's part, kinda like a Black Cherry Pt.II, I found it really good and am disappointed it didn't sell as well because of her statement.

The sales don't matter so much. I actually don't think that statement affected her sales really, because the main people who were offended by it, were not people who are interested in her or her music. They wouldn't have purchased the album anyway so it makes no difference.

GRACE 20th September 2008 03:37 AM

Is there really any point in thinking about it? We can't know if she would be selling really well if she hadn't said her bad joke because she did it =/...

It's a real shame she suicide bombed her career like that, I really hope that with TABOO she can pull herself back up again.

Princess Sohee 20th September 2008 03:40 AM

Honestly her statement earlier this year had a small impact on her career when it happened, but she bounced back pretty quickly. Her sales and everything else have been going downhill for almost a year before that. What Kumi did was blown way out of proportion by everyone. Think about someone like Erika Sawajiri or Ami Suzuki, their scandals were things that really ruined their careers.

Celaphorce 20th September 2008 03:41 AM

I say Taboo will be a good comeback single for her, imo MOON was a bomb, so maybe Taboo will do a hell of a lot better!, I really want a new album already, rather than 2 more singles.

GRACE 20th September 2008 03:41 AM

^True, but I think the Media of Japan made too big a deal out of it. Seriously, who else would care if some older women where offended by her statement other than the media?

They're always to blame =/

Princess Sohee 20th September 2008 03:44 AM

TABOO will probably do better than MOON, but it's not 2006 anymore where it was almost guaranteed that she'd have great sales for her singles, she's past her peak. Even though I think what she's been releasing more recently is better, it probably won't sell as well as it would've if she was still at the peak of her career. I think a lot of people have gotten sick of her in the past few years, she's been too overexposed.

Luv ~Venus~ 20th September 2008 03:45 AM

Grace, her career really didn't suffer that much. I agree with ahnsohee that the scandal really didn't effect her sales. =/ As of ow, Kingdom is still charting and not only that her DVD sold well and because of popular demand, she added a few extra dates to her Kingdom tour. =/ That scandal was only a tecnically to get folks to focus off Kingdom which is a shame because it was a really good album with a nice concept.

As for you question Celaphorce, I was expecting Kingdom to get 500k her first week which she only fell 75k short but overall I thought Kingdom would finish around the 800k-850k area. Hikki had LF to help keep the sales steady while live promotion was over with. So eventually Hikki was going to surpass her. (IMO)

GRACE 20th September 2008 03:45 AM

The whole 3 best albums in like what, two years, didn't help either. Avex put her too much out there imo. But, maybe if they pull her into the background for a time, and then let her bang again, she'll have a second peak, kinda like Namie right now

Princess Sohee 20th September 2008 03:49 AM

I think more and more Kumi is slowly doing less work. A lot of artists with Avex are doing a bit better than she is right now, and I think they'll want to focus more on that, since they're all about money I wouldn't be surprised if they completely put her on the backburner to focus on someone else more successful. They did it with Ayumi once Kumi's popularity began to rise and I can see them doing it to her very soon.

Luv ~Venus~ 20th September 2008 03:49 AM

Her releasing 3 Best albums isn't any different than Exile and Ayu releasing 3 albums in one year. =/ Kumi is still on the top of her game. Her popularity (public and musical wise) is still high in demand. TABOO was just released digitally and it's already at #1 on rechoku (Forgive me, I can't spell it!:P) charts. IMO, chic isn't losing nothing at all. I'm expecting TABOO get 130k-150k total. :)

Celaphorce 20th September 2008 03:51 AM

Well her first Best Album(IMO) shot her up to the high status of her and her career, not the tie-in with FF, after that Best~SS~ More like a Studio Album just with Best in the title, and Best~B&L~ is a sad excuse for a best album, in all reality it was missing some good songs like Flower and Taisetsu Na Kimi E. Anyways Best~FT~ awesome and gave her the career she shot up to.

GRACE 20th September 2008 03:52 AM

^Hopefully, people get sick of Exile, just offtopic.

Kuu's popularity ain't what it used to be, but then again, if you aren't Hikki, your popularity tends to wave back and forth. I'm sure TABOO will start to push her towards popularity again, it's that good, and the b-side is pretty strong for once

Princess Sohee 20th September 2008 03:52 AM

I think she just needs to do something original. I feel like for the past 2-3 years she's been releasing the same thing over and over. Her singles come out in the same pattern and everything. I think she should take a break for a while like Namie did and come back with something to blow everyone away.
