i wonder if the timing really is a factor? because honestly, for it to have shot down from 9k to 2k sooo quickly, it's a bit shocking, even with her low second week sales I would even say this is low. Maybe we could've seen a similar glitter sales should it have been released when it was supposed to? well lol i guess anything for the #1

Ayumiko 9th January 2010 10:25 PM

100k in 2 weeks is very good! I think you were.../ballad will end up selling between r/s and s/s.

hikaricore 10th January 2010 04:48 AM

Isn't everyone forgetting the fact that YW.../B has a bunch of tie ups?
Won't "BALLAD" constantly playing on TV boost sales?

Max_ZZZ 10th January 2010 05:41 AM

^ once the old ladies and men decide it's time to support ayu, than we'll start seeing the difference

Emperatriz Ayumi 10th January 2010 06:32 AM

Thanks so much for the info!!

If enough people would watch the drama. =P
Even if it's oldies it doesn't look like "too many" watch it.

interesting. Her sales seem consistent with the decline of a-list female solos.

Honestly...I really wish we had a better view of what's popular in Japan.

This No. 1 streak and sales crap is annoying to me.

random but imo the single should have been released before christmas...whatever.

As of right now, male Korean groups and AKB48 are popular along with the usual JE groups and EXILE. That's about it, really. There'll probably be an random hit this year by someone like Aoyama Thelma. [not her exactly, but someone who will have a similar sales boom] Also, Ikimonogakari still seems to be maintaining the popularity they've built up over the last few years.

The #1 is practically guaranteed though with her highest "first week/weekly" sales since Days. I wish they'd just get it over with and announce her as #1 though.

JE bands generally aren't that popular with casual listeners with the exception of arashi of course, KAT-TUN and NEWS for example mostly live off their large fan bases, their songs usually don't do well digitally even compared to Ayu's who is supposedly "less popular".

The mid-tempo R'n'B ballads/songs are pretty popular in Japan now (JUJU's Sunaoni naretara and Ashita ga kuru nara were big hits and it seems that Nishino Kana is doing great with Dear... and motto...) - even though the majority of those singles didn't have much success with their physical releases, they were some of last year's biggest digital sellers.

Being released before Christmas would've basically put the single up against three Kanjani8 singles, placing Ayu at around #4 for the week that week.

Kanjani8 after one week:
Quote:

X->1->2->3->3->3->3 - Kanjani8 (Shiro) - 23,977 + 19,408 + 29,119 + 20,629 + 11,387 + 6,768 = 111,288
X->X->1->2->2->2->2 - Kanjani8 (Aka) - 26,686 + 38,722 + 23,925 + 12,410 + 7,166 = 108,909
X->X->X->1->1->1->1 - Kanjani8 (Midori) - 55,714 + 28,976 + 15,152 + 8,549 = 108,391
Ayu is "just about almost there" with nearly two weeks of sales.

but boyband/maleband always get all the attention.so,we can't really compare a singer with a band

KarenPang 10th January 2010 01:05 PM

releasing before Christmas will be a bad horrible idea

Nov & mid Dec were all packed full of Johnny's releases of singles & if You were ... / BALLAD were to go up against Fukuyama Masaharu's Hatsukoi , Hatsukoi would pound her super big time

especially since the single sold about 152K+ in the 1st week with 3 editions & I don't think You were ... / BALLAD is able to reach that amount despite having 1st press goodies & the works

y_nathz 10th January 2010 01:52 PM

boyband power is fierce... :(

Bigtop 10th January 2010 06:50 PM

Whoa... Seems like the boys are playing some kind of "unfair competition" here...

GRACE 10th January 2010 07:33 PM

I'm surprised at how well this single is doing, I was sure her streak was done
