Has anyone heard Right Mirrorcle?
It's so great! I know it's offtopic, but as it's related to MW, I'm putting it here:

less than 4K only...

FREAKY sold 195,322

SolarAngel 4th July 2008 12:19 PM

And it had 4 A-sides, don't forget. I hope her summer single can regain platinum status like blue bird.

apple-pi 4th July 2008 06:13 PM

But I thought MW did get platinum status? (since it's based on shipped copies)
Or am I messing this up? o___o

I guess, the 13th Week will be the last week for MW.

TITANIC 7th July 2008 11:00 AM

Really? So they took the avex quote instead of oricon's? A little like m(u). Thanks.

No, RIAJ certificate all releases by shipped copies not by copies sold in stores.
(m)u was certified a million since it shipped over a million.
MW is certified platinum because it shipped over 250,000 copies.

(for others example, kumi's Kingdom sold 606,000 and was certified triple platinum for shipping over 750,000 copies, kumi's BEST ~second session~ was certified 2 million for shipping over 2 million copies though it sold around 1,820,000 in stores and not 2 million).

That's how certifications work.

MW existed on charts for 13 weeks?!?!

Its performance much MUCH better than GUILTY's 2 singles and "Startin'/BTB..." single!

yeah i think so. The sales will leak soon.. ahh.. i hope it sell higher than 541 copies

Bad Wolf 8th July 2008 08:21 AM

I'm really impressed that it has done as well as this. I mean my goodness, some US artists barely see those sales figures for a studio album. But yeah, since it's her 10th anniversary single it makes sense - plus MW is a damn good song.

Yah, I want to see MW sell at least 600 less for the "suppose-TO-BE" last week of it.
After all of the chart weeks, im happy for its performance. :)

Thanks for the explanation! But I feel that this method of certification can be manipulated quite easily. That explains why secret is triple platinum. Doesn't this mean that there are 50k unsold copies of MW?

On the other hand, a friend said that not all japanese stores submit figures to oricon since you have to pay oricon a fee to state that your store is submitting figures (fans will buy from those stores to contribute) so maybe that's one good thing about counting copies shipped instead of oricon figures. And seeing that MW is quite difficult to find in Japan right now, there may be more unreported figures than we think.

it's a manipulative system, but which label wants to lose money by producing obscene amounts of unnecessary copies. on the other hand, it is necessary to have more copies to be left over, so that stores still can hold a copy or that people who discover an artist years after the release still can grab a copy, 'cause they surely don't start their monstrous cd-pressing equipment for a single copy. :P

and oricon is an estimated sales figure. oricon never got numbers from all stores in japan (that's not even technically feasible), but from quite a lot. the numbers they get are then multiplied with a certain factor to take uncounted stores into account.

SolarAngel 8th July 2008 02:38 PM

Thus the x1.75? I thought it was because some stores don't release figures until the end of the week so everyone in this forum speculates with this factor. Anyways, i understand the RIAJ certification method now thanks lol...

If you guys look at the oricon charts recently, it's starting to make me really wonder at the no.1 for MW. Shuchishin's new single's 1st week release is better than MW's combined sales and their previous single is back in the top 10. Be thankful for small mercies.
