I think that the fact that 4 HOT WAVE had all those CM tie-ins meant more than the number of songs, considering that not all the four songs were equally popular. 3 SPLASH just showed how the number of songs and the PVs on the single does you little when you're not that popular :)

And multiple versions that apperantely don't help that much in that state.

There a lot of factors affecting Ayu sales. *Sigh*
I think major factors are tie-in, popularity of the songs and economy stability??? (How to said that?)
IMO, Ayu should take a rest for a while. CD sales will increase slightly coz people missed her songs. (Just like Hikki)

^ I agree add there these xD

- Change in people's musical taste
- Ayu's old fans have grown older who are probably busy at college or working at minimum wage and can barely afford school.
- Boy bands
but mostly Economic because even the Boy bands who are the current fad right now can't sell as much as Idols have sold before.

jbrat2219 2nd March 2010 05:22 AM

^ Actually I think it's the fans that have grown up with her that stick with her the most. Isn't her fan demographic in the 20's and 30's mostly?

Cherry Dynamite 2nd March 2010 05:28 AM

I mean if that's the case then her recent sales should have been stronger, don't you think?

jbrat2219 2nd March 2010 05:36 AM

Not necessarily, she probably lost most of her casual listeners who probably made up for the majority of her sales when she was big. Now hardcore fans buy probably every release or most of them and older fans buy every now and then. Maybe, I'm not sure myself.

truehappiness 2nd March 2010 05:51 AM

Ayu also has listeners who are about 6 years old... haha.

I don't think her fanbase is shrinking really... unless you're going by sales, then maybe yes. But as for fans (not copies of CDs) she seems to have remained rather consistent. Just look at her BEST ARTIST poll numbers... they barely change as the years go by!

I think she's just a very well respected artist in the music industry. Pretty much all of my friends in Japan know her and respect her a great deal, especially after her hearing loss, but they don't necessarily listen to her music. They're all still stuck on M. :laugh

truehappiness 2nd March 2010 06:08 AM

I know a few Japanese people who say their favorite songs are M and appears, haha. OLD.SCHOOL. Haha.

Her graph for the most part is amazing except for her males' 10-19 and males'/females' 50-60s pieces, haha. Damn younger guys in Japan need to represent... or maybe they just all grew up...

Maybe they did all just turn 20... haha.

jbrat2219 2nd March 2010 06:30 AM

LOL Yeah! How does that poll work? Do they ask people from all over Japan or from the audience?

truehappiness 2nd March 2010 07:06 AM

They poll people online, I believe.
