Yeah, like me! It's a bit oversimplified, but I liked it. I also really like Strawberry Sex XD. It's a bit Robin Thicke-like, and I think he pulls it off nicely. I don't want it to be his predominant style, but I do appreciate it.

It's about the same as CANDY's, which is sort of disappointing, but I can understand since it's been over a year since his last release and I don't think this type of song is really that popular in Japan. Curious to see how Aishiteru will do...

waterballoon 19th October 2010 05:09 PM

Did we have any previews of Aishiteru?

nanakopy87 19th October 2010 05:30 PM

i think they uploaded the movie trailer on youtube before.but i don't know the link :s

KarenPang 20th October 2010 03:34 AM

I get the feeling the general Japanese public still likes Ken for his ballads

after all Hitomi wo Tojite wasn't his best selling single for nothing

I remembered when fake star was released , that was his worst selling single at that time . I don't mind the song but the PV gross me out

when CANDY came along , eew much ? then Boku wa Kimi ni Koi wo Suru sold a lot more than CANDY

I have a feeling Aishiteru will sell much better cos it has a bigger tie in & that goes for the B-side as well

Yeah, well basically that. Although, in all honesty, Japan seems to like any random artist the most for their ballads XD. Namie Amuro's biggest hit was the snoozetastic Can you Celebrate?, when she's had so many other awesome songs.

i think its going to be something like ayu's Heaven PV?can't wait to watch the full PV XD

KarenPang 26th October 2010 05:55 AM

lol already the 1st part has Ken sitting inside the coffin , so it's like a case of WTH @_@

it's probably 1 of those PVs & maybe songs that have a spirtual concept ? I don't know but with a title like Aishiteru , I will find it amusing if it's going to be a dance no. ~_~

AyuGAME 26th October 2010 12:54 PM

WOW!!! i want aishiteru PV!! and the song!!!
really..really..can't wait!!! So excited!!!

waterballoon 26th October 2010 03:43 PM

AyuGAME 28th October 2010 02:56 AM

The PV is up for download at jpopsuki and KMC...
i'm downloading it right now...can't wait!!!

nanakopy87 28th October 2010 02:58 AM

woot. *runs to kmc*

AyuGAME 28th October 2010 03:17 AM

The song and the PV is not as good as i expected...

there is some part of the song that the melody is really hard to understand, i mean the flow of the song is a little complicated, so definitely that the song is not easy listening. The chorus part is nice. Need to hear it again and again, i'm sure it will grow on me.

the PV is so simple and i don't think it's high budget PV...in fact, i think it's kinda cheap...
but the whole set and decoration at the church make it looks expensive...

KarenPang 28th October 2010 05:32 AM

Ken never has high end budgets PVs to begin with

anyway I like the song & yeah I still think he really does best when comes to ballads since the general public still remembers/knows him for classics like Hitomi wo Tojite

I don't like Ken in blonde hair but hey if it works for him , why not ?

I'm still freaked out by the 1st part of the PV with him lying inside the open faced coffin :dead2 , like wth

I have uploaded the Aishiteru PV & PV rip here

nanakopy87 28th October 2010 05:56 AM

i don't know if his PV is high budget or not.but i would say his PV isn't as 'high end' as others (like use lots of 3D and animation). His style is always simple and nice.i don't think the PV is boring.if this PV is boring,i don't know what hitomi wo tojite is :irked

KarenPang 28th October 2010 09:12 AM

LOL

the only high budget PV I can think of is Strawberry Sex because he went to Las Vegas to flim it & that goes for Boku wa Kimi ni Koi wo Suru where he supposedly went to New Zealand to flim the PV (love the scenery background still for it !)

but other than that yeah his PVs are not say very entertaining if not CG effects driven but sometimes simplicity is the best

you see Kimi no Suki na Toko . Such a great song & the PV is so heartwarming if not simple too

waterballoon 28th October 2010 03:54 PM

omg is there a youtube link to Aishiteru's PV~~

KarenPang 28th October 2010 03:56 PM

I tried to search for it on YouTube but nothing Jun Xiang

YesAsia's description of Aishiteru

After a quiet half-year, Hirai Ken kicked off the celebration for the 15th anniversary of his musical artist debut with a special Ken's Bar show in May 2010. To lead up to the release of his compilation album of coupling songs, the singer-songwriter is releasing two singles over two consecutive months. Aishiteru is the second single release, and the song serves as the theme song for the Japanese film Ghost - Mou Ichido Dakishimetai. To fit with the film's theme, Aishiteru is a touching ballad about continuing love for someone that has passed away. The song is produced by Tokyo Jihen's Kameda Seiji, who also produced hit ballads Hitomo wo Tojite and Boku wa Kimi ni Koi wo suru. In addition to B-side track air cameraman, the single also includes Hirai's cover of Unchained Melody (which was in the original Ghost film) and a remix of Boku wa Kimi no Koi wo Suru.

First Press Edition comes in the CD-Extra format (with bonus material that can be accessed when the disc is inserted into a computer), and it includes the Sing Forever music video.

I don't know how his B-side compilation album has done as Oricon hasn't updated the album's section yet :O

but ouch , not a good week for Ken to release a single , I see ARASHI , J SOUL BROTHERS , Yusuke , KARA , ALICE NINE there D:

nanakopy87 10th November 2010 11:48 AM

thats kinda low. o.O i was expecting top 5 since its a good ballad song :irked

huhuhu.even JSB won him :tired

KarenPang 10th November 2010 11:51 AM

ya lor , I thought he might get at least top 5 , with him covering Righteous Brothers's Unchained Melody in the single but still cannot D:

LOL yeah I know you will say something about J SOUL BROTHERS too xD which I saw their promo ad at the back of the latest Only Star magazine which I received today

Oh well , hopefully his B-side compilation album will fare much better than this

nanakopy87 10th November 2010 11:53 AM

back to the topic : is the movie premier on japan cinema already?i think sing forever has higher 1st day ranking than aishiteru?

I don't know man but the fact that Aishiteru is doing poorly than Sing Forever which doesn't have a promo tie in , now that's really fishy

the only thing this's happening is because this week's singles competition's really stiff

I love Aishiteru though the song is amazing and Unchained Melody is sexy lol

Nackar_91 11th November 2010 10:28 AM

What were you expecting? : P. It's a B-side best album from an artist who really hasn't been doing much lately and whose last minor hit was from a year ago. He doesn't really have anything going for him, and B-side collections in general are not marketed heavily. It's a treat for the fans.

Hirai Ken to sing theme song for TBS’s “JIN”

Soulful crooner Hirai Ken (39) will be singing the theme song for TBS drama “JIN” which premieres today, April 17th.

The theme song, “Itoshiki Hibi Yo”, will go on sale on May 4th and marks the first time in ten years Hirai has collaborated to write lyrics with music producer, Matsuo Kiyoshi (43), who is credited with two million-selling albums, including “THE CHANGING SAME”. The singer himself took charge of composing the melody of the song, which is a heartwrenching yet warm and epic ballad. “Itoshiki Hibi Yo” perfectly fits “JIN”, whose plot centers around the irreplaceable ties between people.

TBS producer, Ishimaru Akihiko, expressed his confidence that “When an era is about to change greatly, no one but Hirai can convincingly convey the imminent demise of a generation of people and their way of thinking”. Hirai continued, “the theme is ‘love for an era’. I just hope the message will reach many people if not just one”.

^lol~ I was about to post the covers too! but you're faster xD
the new song was just okay for me actually >.< but yay for new album! :D

KarenPang 10th May 2011 05:19 AM

omg what's that big red ball he's holding , it's just not making any ... sense :roflmao

but other than that , those covers are great ! way better than FAKIN' POP for sure super big time !

NintendoHTF1242 10th May 2011 05:20 AM

I assume the big red ball is supposed to represent the big red dot on the Japanese flag. And the album is called JAPANESE SINGER sooooo

butterfly_ayu 10th May 2011 05:22 AM

^I was about to say the same :D (why am I always slower than others at posting :dead2)
but yeah, I like the covers this time :) Ken looks very handsome in them xD

nanakopy87 10th May 2011 05:25 AM

i agree with nintendoHTF and butterfly ayu

KarenPang 10th May 2011 10:42 AM

nanakopy87 left out track #10 in which the title's BLIND

http://www.kenhirai.net/japanese_singer/

Ken is holding a red ball on the jacket cover. According to the star, it expresses the symbol of many important things, such as Japan, the Earth, or the heart

http://www.tokyohive.com/2011/05/hir...inger-in-june/

ooh ok , now I know why Ken's holding it . At least with that reasoning he gave , it makes more sense

KarenPang 10th May 2011 04:02 PM

Itoshiki Hibi yo ranked at #7 overall on the weekly chart

sugarbasil 10th May 2011 05:04 PM

Holy crap those are some fugly covers. :tired

Hopefully my internet at home works well enough for me to watch the video. : /

KarenPang 10th May 2011 05:09 PM

I guess you never seen past cover artworks for Ken's material ? JAPANESE SINGER is already not bad to me :shrug

You should just google & look at some of his worst ones like Sing Forever & let alone FAKIN' POP & most recently CANDY :no

then again , Ken never really has good covers for his stuff even though for Ken's Bar II , they were some of his best & also for fake star as well *_*

nanakopy87 10th May 2011 05:30 PM

Sing Forever cover is actually quite artistic.i think his best cover should be sentimentalover, and several single's cover.other than that, its just so-so to me

also that goes for his PVs as well , I never really enjoy watching them even though songs wise they're still good & have substance

funny enough when he released Ken's Bar II & also his Ken Hirai Films Vol.11 Ken's Bar 10th Anniversary DVD , those covers were some of his best to date

I just like that old school black & white feeling , it was executed really well

That cover would look so much better if his hair didn't look like the texture and color of a used Q-tip. :no

KarenPang 7th June 2011 01:26 AM

I never like Ken in blonde hair to begin with :no . I still feel he looked the best when he released fake star , which's incidentally probably my fave single cover artwork of Ken

too bad the PV for it is so .... awakard :laugh

Hirai Ken to release new single & PV collection

http://static.tokyohive.com/wp-conte...4_hiraiken.jpg

Hirai Ken has announced that he will be releasing his new single, “Kokuhaku“, on May 23rd!

“Kokuhaku” will be used as the theme song for TV Asahi’s upcoming drama, “W no Higeki“, which stars actress Takei Emi. This drama is based on a mystery novel by Natsuki Shizuko that was adapted into a film back in 1984.

Regarding the song, Hirai commented, “I made it with the themes ‘absolute darkness’ and ‘overwhelming despair’, things that everyone holds somewhere in their hearts.” He continued, “Honestly, I’ve wrote a lot of songs, but this was the first song where I felt pain.”

After hearing the song, Takei expressed, “I felt that he wrote it while relating to my character, the protagonist Mako.”

For its coupling track, the single will include “Woman ‘W no Higeki’“, which will also be featured in the drama. This will be an acoustic cover of the theme song that was used in the movie back in 1984.

The single will be released in 2 different versions: Limited Edition (CD+DVD) and Full Volume Edition (CD-Only). The DVD will contain a 30-minute long special footage starring the singer himself. Meanwhile, the Full Volume Edition will feature a special arrangement of “Itoshiki Hibi yo“, called “Itoshiki Hibi yo -the repose of souls-“, and a remix of “Onegai Julie★“.

Along with the new single, Hirai will simultaneously release a new PV collection titled ‘KEN HIRAI Films Vol.12′, which will include 9 video clips from “Kimi wa Su. Te. Ki” to “Yume no Mukou de“.

Fans who purchase both the single and PV collection will have a chance to be invited to Hirai’s annual concert, ‘Ken’s Bar’. This concert will be held on July 7th for 47 people from the 47 prefectures in Japan.

AyuGAME 18th May 2012 05:13 PM

PV of Kokuhaku already leaked at jpopsuki...

the song is totally different from what Ken usually sings...somehow it made me remember Ayu's WILL...very similar atmosphere...

love the song and the pv though..very cool

KarenPang 18th May 2012 06:11 PM

damn Kokuhaku is awesome & you're right , it's a very different if not extremely unique style Ken displayed in , something that was not present in his previous singles

and yup very strong influences of WILL in Kokuhaku which's really great & it also helps that Kokuhaku is produced by Seiji Kameda who's a member of Tokyo Jihen

That and also , Kokuhaku is selected to be used as the theme song for TV Asashi's drama W no Higeki which stars actress Takei Emi which is based on a mystery novel by Natsuki Shizuko that was adapted into a film back in 1984

anyway awesome comeback Ken :D & he will be performing Kokuhaku next week on MUSIC STATION *__*

  1. Shine/家入レオ (Ieiri Reo)
  2. 真夏の (Manatsu no) Sounds good !/AKB48
  3. Bible/GLAY
  4. Dream On/ノエル (Eru) ・ギャラガー (Gyaragā)
  5. 告白 (Kokuhaku)/平井 堅 (Ken Hirai)

really hope Ken will put out a great performance for Kokuhaku , if it's going to be something like what it's shown in the PV , even better !

AyuGAME 19th May 2012 03:03 AM

^AHH!!! Can't wait to watch music station performance...love the song

KarenPang 19th May 2012 05:18 AM

With the theme of “Neo Japonesque Butou(dance)”, old Japanese traditions such as Kabuki, Awaodori and Shishimai have been grafted into a modern dance. In the PV, the dancers, who are in Kimonos, hold fans as they dance around Hirai. MIKIKO, well known as a choreographer of Perfume, took charge of the choreography and created a beautiful and dynamic visual.

Hirai stated, “The PV has been created with high creativity… With both the song and PV, I think I could open up a new ground of my own. Please enjoy it!”

Prior to release, an event called ‘Special screening party for Hirai Ken’s music video’ will be held at Communication Zone OPUS in the Ginza Sony Building in Tokyo on May 21st.

This event will commemorate his new single “Kokuhaku” and the upcoming PV collection ‘KEN HIRAI Films Vol.12′, and feature the “Kokuhaku” PV on large screens. Furthermore, the whole Sony Building will hold this event with a life-size dummy display of Hirai, along with a PV experience zone with BRAVIA’s hometheater. The event will be held until June 3rd.

YesAsia description of Kokuhaku

A year after Itoshiki Hibi yo, the hit theme song for the second season of television drama Jin, Hirai Ken returns with another powerful drama theme song. This time, Ken delivers Kokuhaku, his theme song for the new remake of the 1984 television drama W no Higeki. For the single's B-side track, Ken delivers a soulful version of 1984's Woman - "W no Higeki" Yori, originally performed by Yakushimaru Hiroko.
