Counting down to a new NEWS

The mysterious countdown on the Johnny’s Entertainment website has people buzzing, reports Cyzowoman.

Clicking on the countdown clock on the website’s right menu, a new window would pop up with the number “4″ changing from the colour black to purple, yellow, pink, or green.

“It became news on some websites, and then too many people tried to access the website when the countdown finished at 00:00 on April 15. Even though it was the middle of the night, for a while it was hard to get access to the website, or sometimes the sound wouldn’t come on. In that sense I think it attracted more attention than the agency had expected,” said one source.

So what was the countdown for? When the clocked struck “00:00:00″, the silhouette for four men appeared along with a short burst of music, then the silhouette would fade…and just at the height of excitement, the silhouette would come back up and the music would repeat again.

It has been reported some fans were disappointed, and others had complained the countdown did not live up to their expectations. Nonetheless, the shapes of the men in silhouette, the number four, and the image colours of Keiichiro Koyama (purple), Takahisa Masuda (yellow), Shigeaki Kato (green), and Yuya Tegoshi (pink) have made it quite clear it has something to do with the new NEWS.

To add to the anticipation, it has been reported all four NEWS members will be on Koyama’s radio show “K-Chan NEWS” on April 17. A number of things have been happening on the show which have hinted at some NEWS announcement, including a K-Chan NEWS staff member tweeting about the countdown, and a comment Koyama had made in mid-March about the four.

“All four of us in NEWS are muscle sore for the same reason,” he said.

The comment had got some fans guessing whether it was because the group are working on new dance routines, or if they are going to start a new variety series where they have to run a lot.

Either way, it does not seem long until an exciting announcement will be made this week.

New Countdown clock appears on Johnny’s Entertainment website

As we previously reported, Johnny’s Entertainment set up a mysterious countdown clock on their website on April 13th, and now another countdown clock has appeared.

This time, if you click the clock on the side menu of Johnny’s Entertainment’s website, a popup of the huge clock with NEWS’s silhouette appears. Similar to last time, every time when the minute or seconds reach the number 4, the number turns purple, green, yellow and pink, in that order. In addition, the silhouette turned into those colors and 4 different background songs were played.

The clock will hit zero on April 17th at 24:00PM, that is the exact time Koyama Keiichiro’s radio show, “K-chan NEWS” is scheduled to air. On this episode, all 4 members of NEWS will appear, and Koyama mentioned, “You know, the meaning that all 4 members will get together is…..”

Last time when the countdown clock hit zero, the 4 members’ silhouettes appeared with background music. Fans are sure that NEWS will make a come back, but no official details have been revealed.

NEWS' Comeback with a New Single, Best of Album, and Tour

Four-member Johnny's group NEWS is officially back! Yesterday, Apr 16th, Johnny's special site for NEWS re-started its countdown, which hit "0:00:00" on Apr 18th (12mn, JST). The time coincide with NEWS' member Keiichiro Koyama radio program "K-chan NEWS" to start its broadcast. Koyama's special guest are co-members Tegoshi Yuya, Takahisa Masuda, and Kato Shigeaki.

The four members kept the fans in suspense by talking nonsensical stuff before finally making an official announcement. As reported earlier, Keiichiro Koyama said something about a new single and Best of Album. Now, aside from the NEWS' new single and Best of Album, the Johnny's talents will also be having a concert tour.

Moreover, in order to show their love for the fans who have waited for them for more than a year, fans can participate in their Best of Album. Fans can vote for their "Top Four Favorite NEWS songs" on Johnny's Entertainment site starting Apr 18th at 12nn, JST.

I'm disappointed to see Ryo & Pi's solos on that list. Okay, code is one of my favourite songs ever but I don't want to see their solos on there now that they've left. I wonder what they'll do for the cover art of a "Best of" album. :think

I'm actually excited to hear Hilcrhyme's rendition of Naiyou no Nai Tegami , especially since they were the ones that 'gave' the song to NEWS , with them writing & composing it

Yamapi’s DVD sales soaring

Tomohisa Yamashita’s road trip through America is doing great on the charts, and it has even prompted a new event involving Yamapi himself, reports Sports Hochi.

It has been reported DVD charts these days indicate sales of more than 10,000 copies is a big hit. Yamashita’s ”山下智久・ルート66〜たった一人のアメリカ〜 (Tomohisa Yamashita Route 66 ~Tatta Hitori no America~)” DVD has sold more than 21,000 copies since it was released on April 11.

The documentary was broadcast by Nihon TV between January and March this year, and follows Yamashita as he went driving down Route 66.

“I found a lot of things on this journey. I met a lot of people and I learnt a lot of things. My perspective of life changed significantly,” Yamashita said.

It has been reported the positive sales have prompted a new event for fans. On May 19, 380 fans chosen through a lottery will get to go to a special screening of the documentary where Yamashita himself will take part and share some behind-the-scenes stories. Fans will even get a chance to meet Yamashita because he will be stamping a special Route 66 event notebook for them in person.

“I’m so happy that I get a chance like this to hold an event long after I finished the journey. I hope I can use the event as an opportunity to make people really understand what it was like,” he said.

I guess I will get the 2CDs limited edition , never would have thought they're including solo tracks from each of the 4 members

in a way I'm not very pleased with the way NEWS BEST is . I thought for the limited edition , if they want to make it really limited , they should have released it in a 2CDs + DVD limited edition

isn't it strange if not odd NEWS is the only Johnny's not to have any of their PVs to be included in DVDs of their singles ? KinKi Kids also had that but all that changed til they released K album

it's really so great to see that NEWS is back! a new single and a BEST album just makes this comeback so totally awesome! :D

More info on Yamapi's Ero album

Aside from his single "LOVE CHASE" due on July 4th, Tomohisa Yamashita will also be releasing his second album titled, "ERO". "ERO" or Erotic will be Yamashita's second album since he went solo.

The album is expected to contain 10-11 tracks, which includes his previous single-"Ai, Texas". The said album will be available in four versions: Regular, Limited Edition A & B, and a Limited Tomohisa Yamashita SHOP edition, which comes with a unisex boxer shorts.

the covers for "LOVE CHASE" are nice, too! my favorite is the regular edition. the PV preview also looks great. can't wait to watch the full PV!

also, i'm so happy the new NEWS single is confirmed! from the title (which i have no idea what it means in english :laugh) i hope it'll be a fun song! and 6 editions is just like JE, isn't it? haha. hopefully it'll sell well with all those editions. :)

Since the departure of Tomohisa Yamashita and Ryo Nishikido, NEWS are set to release their first single as a four members, it was announced on June 12, reports Nikkan Sports, Sports Hochi, Daily Sports Online, and Chunichi Sports.

“We can finally make a start. I’ve been waiting for this day,” Shigeaki Kato said.

“The feeling that it’s about to start is finally sinking in,” Keiichiro Koyama said.

It has been reported “チャンカパーナ (Chankapana)”, meaning “the person I care about or love”, will be released on July 18. It is the group’s first single in 20 months.

“When I first heard the title I was like, ‘excuse me?’, but I like the fact that it makes you want to know what it means,” Koyama said.

The group talked to the media about how all of the members decided it was best for Yamashita to focus on his solo work and Nishikido on Kanjani8, and how the remaining four changed a group threat into a chance.

“I was worried, I didn’t know what was going to happen or where my life was headed,” Koyama said.

“There’s no way I couldn’t be upset. But I turned a corner, I knew it would be a challenge but the four of us could do it,” Kato said.

“I wasn’t worried at all. I’m sure the two had things they wanted to accomplish and it’s a big no for NEWS to make someone stay who doesn’t want to,” Yuya Tegoshi said.

“I was frustrated that the dream the six of us had had was torn apart, but it also made me want it more. I felt like I wanted the four of us to achieve it, and more,” Takahisa Masuda said.

It has been reported even though the four of them had different thoughts about last year’s event, Koyama had said they all loved NEWS and did not want it to end. It is also the reason why the four had spent six months preparing new material. During the time the four would catch up for meals, talk about the new single, and started suggesting more of their own ideas to producers.

“There’s no song we have that has more of us in it than this. Because there are fewer of us, it’s easier for our personality to come through. I’m confident the four-member NEWS can overtake the six-member NEWS,” Tegoshi said.

“There aren’t many four-membered groups in Johnny’s. I want to use it as an advantage. We’ve even made four versions of the new single,” Masuda said.

The group started with nine members in 2003, but Koyama had said this was the last change.

”We’ll do this till we’re old men.”
It has been reported a summer concert tour is also being planned.

It’s been revealed that Yamashita Tomohisa will be making an appearance as himself in Fuji TV’s anime, ‘Toriko‘!

This was decided because Yamashita’s new song, “LOVE CHASE“, was picked up as the ending theme for the anime. When he first challenged himself as a voice actor, he felt it was difficult; however, he was later able to pick it up quickly.

Yamashita commented, “I became excited after seeing the set image of the anime. I was nervous about dubbing, but I’m looking forward to seeing myself moving in the anime!”

The episode of ‘Toriko’ featuring Yamashita will air on June 24th.

Kato Shigeaki's Novel "Pink and Gray" Gets Manga Adaptation

It has been announced by Kadokawa Shoten that NEWS' Kato Shigeaki's debut novel "Pink to Gray" will get a manga adaptation. It will be released via Kadokawa's manga magazine "ASUKA" August issue. The writer and illustrator for the manga version hasn't been revealed yet.

"Pink and Gray" tells the story of two best friends who entered the entertainment industry together. However, one became a star while the other gets left behind to supporting roles. The novel talks about the successes and frustrations in the entertainment industry.

Shigeaki wrote the novel during the time when NEWS was idle. Shigeaki mentioned before that he wrote the novel with the intention of excluding everything about him that shouts "boy band". He wanted his novel to show a different side of him.
