It would of been a single in the old days of ayumi, but by today's standards.. its a mini... almost an album with all those tracks.

So it looks like she no longer releases singles but "mini albums". Basically that is what this looks like between the three "original" tracks, remixes and instrumentals. Isn't this basically like a big single? Albums don't usually have instrumentals on them right?

there is only so much avex can do. Their are standers and they are just following it.

If they don't release another album of some sort this year her record is lost. This mini-album is the work of ~avex magic~ and will ToX magic behind it to make sure it's number one.

While I tend to not complain about her releases, I definitely feel that the track list for this "mini album" is a mess. It only has 3 original tracks (which I would classify as a single IMO), there are more remixes than anything else (her remixes are nice but I could care less about them personally), and I'm fine with the instrumentals although I think the "You & Me" instrumental could have been tacked onto "A SUMMER BEST" since they didn't include the making clip on the physical DVD. Also, why couldn't making footage be included on the DVD for "Melody"? I always liked that she included all of her videos and making footage on the DVD so why has she started not including them with this release and her previous release? Although I'm excited about the new material, I'm disappointed with the setup for this release.

Ayu didn't said in her interview that she considered L like a last effort in term of single ? so I don't think she will release another one ...

The release dates are all very odd (Saturdays, Fridays, etc) so it's not just albums that will be coming out.

Hesitant about the track list but excited that finally - a new Ayu release! Hoping for better quality than the "Song 4 u" preview, though, but I doubt Ayu will disappoint. Even in the darkest moments she has been able to deliver for me. :)

This is exactly what I'm concerned about as far as the formatting of this release. What if this is really a single with a cover up of being called a mini-album and all of the original mixes end up on her next album? I personally don't purchase her singles because all of the songs end up on her album so I'd be pissed if I bought this under the impression that the songs would be exclusive to this release because it's a "mini album" and then when the full release of her album comes out, these songs would be on there since it's formatted as single. To be honest, I think I'm going to wait until she announces her next full album to purchase this just in case they try to pull some funny stuff.

There have been "maxi singles" since the 1970s. A famous Jpop example before Ayu's debut is SPEED's ALL MY TRUE LOVE

The "Maxi-Single" thing is pretty controversial on the japanese music industry, some of Ayu "longer" singles, as A were even considered to be albums by both RIAJ and Oricon due to their number of tracks.

They most likelly named it Mini-album because this is how they should name something with this amount of tracks... Even if it was named a single, Oricon would put it on the album ranking anyway.
