And of course they COULD call it a single.
They could call it an AYUDOM, or bulingle, or Mcdoubleingle... it doesn't matter, it will show up on the charts as an album because thats what it is. =)

I'm expecting a dvd, a lifestyle vol.2, a calendar, but i think they aren't goint to release another album with remixes, if she releases mini-albums with remixes, what is the point for a new ayu-ro-mix, ayu trance or whatever, IMO. :)

By that definition though that means ayu doesn't have 50 singles - a lot of them would have to be classified as mini albums.

For me, it's not the length but the number new songs.

She routinely had singles that we're this long but they didn't charge the price of a mini album for them.

I can see no good reason really to call it a mini album other than the two theories others have posted. And that's fine. It's Avexs choice and the consumers choice to decide whether the content is worth paying the higher price - especially when there is a very good chance that all the songs will eventually be released in some form of compilation.

frankly you are right... by definition, ayumi does not have 50 singles, because of her crazy maxi-singles saga that she had at the height of her career, but I think because they were billed as singles, she would count them as singles.

Yeah, what defines mini album and single in Japan is very confusing. Basically there is no logic to it and every company decides for themselves and constantly makes up their own definition based on whatever they think will make them the most money at any given time.

Im pretty sure they could of gotten away with charging for less, because the way that the CD market was back then... but when your average artist sales anywhere from 80K-250K you tend to charge more... (compared to 10 years ago)

look at AKB... they have been selling singles like crazy... and if you look at their single price compared to others that dont sell has much... they tend to me lower. (not a lot... but lower)

The Britney set is called the Singles Collection. It is around US $200. That's what I saw on Amazon a while back. Might have changed by now. I wonder what Avex would charge for something like that.

Wouldn't be surprised if the final release was something like this. The only way I could justify buying it is if everything was properly remastered and all the artwork was redone (using outtakes and stuff) and Ayu did liner notes for each album in retrospect.

I seriously would LOVE another Ayu game or even just like... software with a bunch of fun random stuff in it. Combination of A VISUAL MIX and the LOVEppears CD-Extra. But an updated A TYPE would be AMAZING since the original was SO fun but the it won't run on modern systems at all now. :(

Well ayaka almost released all of her singles in a collection box but it got cancelled... I would buy a singles collection from Ayu because I only have talkin 2 myself. She can release all of her studio albums with the reduced pricing like Namie did. I wouldn't mind that.

I would honestly be very upset if they did that if I bought all the releases before it. I've had things like that happen once before, but I ended up selling the things I didn't need. This time I'm going to wait until the end and see what they decide to do, since the DVD version isn't limited. I only buy DVD versions, since I actually have a Japanese DVD player I feel the need to put it to use. I don't want it to feel unloved.

I love it when artists do such consecutive releases! There is always so much more excitement for the releases! (at least for me^-^)

I don't care if it's a mini or a single. In the end I can't afford 5 minis nor 5 consecutive singles and will download it either way.

And honestly, most of us will download those minis and wouldn't even buy them if they were singles. Only 39 CD's of LOVE were preordered so far here at ahs and some people ordered multiple versions (see the LOVE purchase count thread). So why be angry about it?
See the positive site: THERE WILL BE A LOT OF NEW AYU MUSIC EVERY ****ING MONTH! For the case she releases every month music and not a calendar or DVD or so. I would be very pissed if something that would be released regardless will be added to this. But I'm hoping that avex and Ayu learned from Acid Black Cherry's 5 month 5 singles project. I mean it was VERY good promotion and so yasu got the number one instead of Ayu.
Just a thought: maybe they really want to make the same thing with Ayu. But 'cos yasu made it just one year ago and this way he took the number one away from Ayu they want to prevent people saying she just copies this. So maybe they really will release only minis or minis and singles - so that the project is basically the same but still different.

Save money, space on my shelf for new releases, etc. I'm no collector, so for me its a waste. I was really upset when I bought Kuu's 4 TIMES and all of it was released on Japonesque. I traded it for a crap ton of expensive Japanese candy :P

Well, I'm sorry, as I said I'm no collector. I can't afford to be. I try to buy the singles that I feel will have something extra about them that make it worth buying both the single and the album. For example, 3 SPLASH has a song and remixes that didn't make it onto the album, so for me that's a single worth buying. I want to support them in any way that I can, but as I said I can't afford to, so I'm just selective with my single choices. I can generally tell when a single will have things that will not be included in future releases, but that time I was wrong. Since I was planning on getting the candy anyway, I just made the best out of the situation.

And I don't understand what that last comment had to do with anything, except to be an insult towards me. But, if that's the kind of character you want to portray, go right ahead.

I was referring to you spending money on something that you particular didn't care for ( Gwen stefani concert). When we talked, I do believe, in this thread about ayumi making new music or not and how it would effect her concerts. I said mainly fans go and way would someone that doesnt care for her music go to a concert. You said you didnt care for Gwen stefani, but went to her concert.

So.... if you have money to blow on something you dont care for... why worry about a single that has all the songs on an album?

I said it would suck, for me, if she released all these minis and I bought them, only for her to release an album containing them, because its not cost efficient for me, being the type of J-Pop buyer that I am. Again, the point of my Gwen Stefani comment was not that I go to concerts for artists that I don't care for. I am, in fact, a Gwen Stefani fan. Is she my #1 favorite singer? Personally, I do feel like taking the entire conversation into consideration helps put the comments in perspective and to not kind of... assume the worst out of my comments. Like, we were talking about hardcore Ayu fans, versus casual listeners of her music. Plus, I also stated that Gwen had just gone solo, hence why I went to go see her, even as a more casual listener.

This anti-FIVE sentiment is just... no.

I'm happy with the news because it means a bunch of new songs but I don't know if releasing so many mini-albums is gonna work... I think it'd be a better strategy to do something similar to Koda Kumi's 12 singles: release 1 single (limited copies) per month and after that a BEST ~15th anniversary~ with all the new songs and PVs.

I like it, it's similar to progress but better and in another way.

What are you basing that on? I think if that's the case they would have labeled the tracks as TBC or Untitled. Not to mention there are remixes already announced, so there's probably already people actually working on them. Then they have to be submitted to Avex/Ayu for approval and any changes that need to be made have to be made. And there is the possibility that the songs are from the Party Queen sessions that Ayu wanted to use but shelved.

I wouldn't be surprised if they filmed the PV when she was in LA for a few random days last month.

She might not have the last song done however.
