Can't wait till Christmas every day until Christmas!
So far I've been good, I started from October 31st. It's basically Christmas (American thanksgiving doesn't count for me. It's just an excuse to go shopping).

Pieces_of_SEVEN 4th November 2013 06:06 PM

^They're already putting up Christmas decorations and items in stores like Target, so I think you're OK. lol

There are Christmas decorations and candy everywhere in Finland too, so it's OK to listen Can't Wait Till Christmas like you've never heard it before. :)

"In reality, the deepest love isn't perfect; and we can't give it to anyone but ourselves."

I love this quote from the "Show Me Love (Not a Dream)" lyrics. Hikki is wise beyond her years. :heart

Minttulatte 6th November 2013 11:07 AM

^That quote is also very true♥

NintendoHTF1242 6th November 2013 03:27 PM

That quote is beautiful. Utada is lyfe.

hayasaki 8th November 2013 10:58 AM

Utada has got some really deep messages on her lyrics, i guess my favorite one is in dareka no negai ga blah blah blah:

"The more i wish for you happiness, the more selfish I become."

Even now, i really can't put these words on layman's term. but they're beautiful.

bluegie 8th November 2013 12:00 PM

(To me) the best part from Dareka is:

誰かの願いが叶うころ あの子が 泣いているよ

amorphose 18th November 2013 01:12 AM

"The tears I cried are my freedom... The tears I held pack are a part of me I would hate to lose."

^Another favorite. From Fight The Blues.

Minttulatte 18th November 2013 12:13 PM

^I can relate to that sentence well. :)

emi♡ 18th November 2013 12:33 PM

omg. fuck having discussions lol We should just have updates that are random hikki quotes.

So we can all contemplate the higher meanings of being human on a regular basis.

amorphose 18th November 2013 05:51 PM

I totally just found some old singable english lyrics I wrote for a couple of Hikki songs!

"Light" (this one is supposed to be like the original Hikari lyrics)
Spoiler:
No matter the time, no matter the place
We're always together; you're right here by my side.
The light from inside "you" finds me in the middle of my darkest nights
& Everything's alright

Sit quietly under the dark, pale sky and
Count the stars, yeah, all night with me, baby

Would a promise just freak you out now?
I just want to put my wish in words
I'll prove it; how much I really do want to be with you
And you'll see it was always me and you, always us, all along

No matter the time, no matter the place
We're always together; you're right here by my side.
The light from inside "you" finds me in the middle of my darkest nights
& Everything's alright

Why destiny (When you turn my way) plays tricks on us, I don't know
What matters most (Take it all away) is that my road led back to you

Thinking too hard about the future
I don't wanna miss what it's front of my face now
I want to give you everything inside of me
Baby, give this a chance and together we'll paint all our dreams

No matter the time, no matter the place
We're always together; you're right here by my side.
The light from inside "you" finds me in the middle of my darkest nights
& Everything's alright

Let go, let go of everything that you're afraid of
Fears don't matter anymore
Just turn off that TV and only look at me tonight
'Cuz nothing's like before

No matter the time, no matter the place
We're always together; you're right here by my side.
The light from inside "you" finds me in the middle of my darkest nights
& Everything's alright

Let go, let go of everything that you're afraid of
Fears don't matter anymore
Just turn off that TV and only look at me tonight
'Cuz nothing's like before

"Goodbye Happiness" (this one has references to other Utada songs)
Spoiler:
Constantly abroad, trying not to get too lost
My head spins, heart stops, I can't even see to those far off summer days
Memories resurfacing, sakura trees still wavering
In time, will it become plain to see that they never meant a thing?
In a dream, you once said, it was all in my head
Well I've got news for you, I'm still blue
So goodbye loneliness,
Light a cigarette to help my nerves unwind
Sing the same old song to help my soul wake up
It's hard to try to keep on keep tryin'
So goodbye happiness,
Feels like you just came, but now you've gotta go
Tell me when the torrent thrashing in my heart will subside
Would you look at only me, and love me?
Love me, love me
Path forward's hard to see, grasping for that fated red seam
Hold me up and let me see what was never meant to be
When the sky's painted grey, you retreat far away
Underneath your lilac veil of hearts
So tell me why again,
Why does the Earth spin and the sun shine bright?
Why do willows weep and why do songbirds cry?
I want to know the things I shouldn't know
So goodbye innocence,
Feels like you just came, but now you've gotta go
Is it still possible to return to that carefree place?
Baby, smile just for me and kiss me
Kiss me, kiss me
Oh, my world is turning upside down, upside down
Darling, darling, darling, darling
I wanna sing just for you, only you
So let me see you now,
Tell you all the things that I've come to learn,
Show you all the places where my heart was burned,
It's not okay but I wouldn't change a thing
So goodbye happiness,
Feels like you just came but now you've gotta go
This feeling I've been clinging to, it's time to let it go
But my wish is still for you to kiss me
So goodbye happiness, lonelieness
So goodbye happiness, love me, loneliness
So goodbye happiness, loneliness

& last but not least a short poem I wrote inspired by the lyrics of Take 5:

"Être comme le ciel"
Spoiler:
Sunrise to sunset, my soul is swept away
Void of all hope and hopelessness, alike
Craving to be something more, graspable just like the sky

Sunset to sunrise, my mind becomes content
With no need for success or failure, alike
The mask is laid upon my face, invisible just like the sky

Sunrise and sunset, soft rays upon my face
I no longer know them, past start and past end
I wish that I had wished to be, full of light just like the sky

The SEL's could probably use a little tweaking, but I'd like your guys' thoughts if you care to share them! (: I know I did a Prisoner of Love one too that was pretty decent. I'm trying to find that one as well.

CoriKaru 18th November 2013 06:52 PM

I did stuff like that too before my harddrive ate it all up. Now I've lost all motivation.

I had an especially good one for "Making Love".

Hurts knowing I've lost it.

My lyrics never had anything to do with the songs either. I just stole the melody.

Maemi 21st November 2013 11:04 AM

I always get teary-eyed because of Prisoner of Love lyrics :grumpy

Minttulatte 21st November 2013 12:13 PM

^It's not a bad thing. I cry at Prisoner of Love every single time. Especially that Stay with me part always tears me up. :)

I never wrote any new lyrics to Hikki's song. I did do that for Kuu and Ayu few years ago but I never even thought of doing so with Hikki's amazing songs. I know that I used to write very Hikki inspired lyrics back in 2006 before I started listening to Ayu's music. Those were awesome but because English sucked at the time, these days I have no idea what I was trying to say. -.-

tenshi no hane 21st November 2013 01:47 PM

These are my favorite lines of hers:

"We weren't entrusted with swords to hear them clash. How can we protect anyone under such a contradiction?"

and

"You don't have to try to be accepted by everyone; we have all been given a blade called individuality"

(both from DEEP RIVER)

amorphose 21st November 2013 03:46 PM

^Oooh, those are both really good ones! :heart Deep River is a beautiful song!

Also from Deep River
"We don't have to accept everything as freely as the name's we were given."

Was gonna post it, but I did before in one of these previous discussions and didn't want to repeat.

One of my favorite Hikki lines in a song is this:

"However great the fear, I will not look away
If at the end of everything, there is love"

The last lines of Sakura Nagashi. So true♥ And it's from the official translation. I now realized that this translation is pretty bad because some parts just makes no sense, which makes me wonder who actually did the translation. I don't think Hikki did because if she did, it would be weird. :D

CoriKaru 25th November 2013 08:49 PM

I don't know if ya'll can see it, but look at the words I circled in Nathan Drake's Journal.

I'm playing Uncharted 2 and I took a picture of my television screen.

It's a line Utada used in "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence - FYI" on her This Is The One Album.

pommy48 25th November 2013 09:25 PM

Her live arrangments are made in heaven... Really, some of her live arragments make her album arrangments sound poor sometimes.

But she isn't all that good working the stage... She seens lost sometimes and sometimes her live singing can be really sad... Kremlin Dusk and Be my Last at Utada United remains two of the worst vocal performances I ever saw by a professional singer. She herself admited more than once that she isn't much into performing.

Completely disagree about Kremlin Dusk. The UU06 version was bomb. & The version at In The Flesh (same arrangement) was the best part of that show. Be My Last was bad though. Ew that cello...

hayasaki 6th December 2013 11:15 AM

UTADA UNITED ftw!

Zeke. 6th December 2013 11:23 AM

I downloaded the Utada United tour ISO when it was released, burned it to DVD, and ended up throwing it in the trash. Her voice does not carry much power live. The subtleties in her "breathy" singing technique work nicely in the studio and translate well on record, but that does not carry over well into live performance for her IMO. I felt embarrassed watching. Honestly, I thought Kremlin Dusk live was atrocious. Thoroughly disappointed.

emi♡ 6th December 2013 01:44 PM

meh.

She's very sharp here and there, but who fucking cares lol tbh, I'm mainly happy she's just singing the right notes and that her voice isn't that harsh and ugly, especially when I compare her to other artists live.

Koda live sometimes? Or Ayu during that one performance of Pride? Dear god.

kremlin dusk WAS the best thing about In the Flesh though. And YMMWTBAM.

I read about that too... Bohemian Summer and Budokan has ok vocals, but not to write home about... Wild Life is nice on the DVD version, but the internet streaming version is not ok. I still believe part of the reason she went on hiatus has to do with how her voice was from 2006-2009.

Hikki never really had singing lessons... The first time she ever had a vocal coach was during 2003, and if I remember it right, it was also the last time.

Where do you live, becuase in America the album was really a few years too late. The R&B sound that the album had - which was popular for quite a while before the album was released - was largely replaced by the electronic/dance/bubblegum stylings of Lady GaGa, Katy Perry, Ke$ha, and Britney Spears. BoA did a much better job with predicting future trends.

Yeah, because Adele's 21, Beyoncé's 4, Miley's Bangerz, Lorde's Pure Heroine, Ariana Grande's Your's Trully, Katy's Prism, Rihanna's post Loud stuff, Lana Del Rey... all and only EDM.

The Pride one was a tour...She had a really big dress....I think :/ The dvd fixed her audio, thank god. It was mainly at the end that was horrible. It might have been a cdl. idk. That was sort of around the time where I thought maybe I should never watch the TV versions anymore.

The thing is I know these girls aren't the best vocalists. I can deal with them being a little breathy, maybe a little sharp or flat. If I want to watch amazing vocalists, I'll go watch BENI or something.

But I can not deal with them singing completely wrong notes or off key.

And I don't think Hikki does that often. She still has a really good feel for the music, and I think the tone of her voice lends really well to -bad singing/technique that still sounds okay-.

I do agree none of those girls are amazing vocalists (there aren't many chart topping amazing, or even good, vocalists on jpop actually), but I would be happy if Hikki just worked on her technique (omg her breathing ~~') a little and stopped composing stuff out of her natural range... She has a gorgeous tone and is capable of delivering amazingly emotional performances, but sometimes things just go... wrong.

emi♡ 7th December 2013 12:26 AM

Visual-wise, Utada United is her best concert... If you like Deep River, she sings almost the whole album at the Budokan... Wild Life is a mixed bag of a lot of her stronger tracks.

Her Music Lovers performance promoting Heart Station is pretty nice, and her internet gig singing Passion and Boulevard of Broken Dreams is REALLY beautiful. Her dvd singing Colors, Simple & Clean and Shounen Jidai is really nice too.

@Earth_maiden-- Definitely UU06 (but disregard or skip over Be My Last-- instead watch the Bokura no Ongaku performance of it)

I feel like JEWEL @ FNS Music Festival is to Ayu as Be My Last @ Bokura no Ongaku is to Hikki.

Ok, so the last studio album was released 5 years and 9 months ago. The last physical single 5 years and 7 months ago. The last digital single a year ago. Ok, we also got four new songs 3 years ago.

Teruzane drops the ball again, of course. In The Flesh, a US/UK show is a iTunes Japan only release? The serious fuck?

Still getting that Deluxe First Love whatever the hell it's called. Selling my kidney for it, true story.

Zahara 8th December 2013 05:45 PM

Fuck I got my hopes up. I'm pissed now.

tenshi no hane 8th December 2013 05:50 PM

I'm glad In The Flesh is being released at all.

For those interested, you can buy Japanese iTunes cards here. I use it all the time.

edit: Bought it. It says the recording is compiled from Feb 8th 2010 at Irving Plaze NY and Feb 12th 2010 at Academy Islington London. She also sings Placebo's The Bitter End by the way.

edit 2: ugh iTunes won't let me rip the audio ;__;

I just pre-ordered First Love -15th Anniversary Deluxe Edition. My poor wallet!

NintendoHTF1242 9th December 2013 05:59 AM

This is the first time I've seen an Utada release being released in such a manner. Kind of fun, actually. LOL at In The Flesh being in iTunes JP only LMAO!

amorphose 9th December 2013 06:01 AM

What the shit...? In The Flesh is finally out and I can't buy it or even watch the Youtube videos from it?! Seriously?! It's the show I attended and everything :(

& did I read that about the First Love Limited Edition that it will contain UNRELEASED tracks..? :O

tenshi no hane 9th December 2013 07:14 AM

^ You can buy it. Just use a Japanese iTunes card to get around the can-only-buy-if-you-live-in-japan business.

Anyhow. I watched it last night and I really liked it. Her voice was good; a bit straining sometimes but that's just her style I guess. Her chatter between songs was really cute and she looked great <3

Now I just gotta figure out how to rip the audio :irked

amorphose 9th December 2013 07:44 AM

^On that site you listed they're asking $50 for a $30 card... Can you say rip off? I'll pirate it as soon as someone posts it and then I'll buy it when her piss poor manager for a father gets it released in the country the event took place in. :laugh
