^Not me, I'll just buy the single.
|
I go buy KH3 for the whole experience. Kingdom Hearts is just omfg every single time♥
|
Can't wait till Christmas every day until Christmas!
So far I've been good, I started from October 31st. It's basically Christmas (American thanksgiving doesn't count for me. It's just an excuse to go shopping). |
^They're already putting up Christmas decorations and items in stores like Target, so I think you're OK. lol

"In reality, the deepest love isn't perfect; and we can't give it to anyone but ourselves."
I love this quote from the "Show Me Love (Not a Dream)" lyrics. Hikki is wise beyond her years. :heart |
^That quote is also very true♥
|
That quote is beautiful. Utada is lyfe.
|
Utada has got some really deep messages on her lyrics, i guess my favorite one is in dareka no negai ga blah blah blah:
"The more i wish for you happiness, the more selfish I become." Even now, i really can't put these words on layman's term. but they're beautiful. |
(To me) the best part from Dareka is:
誰かの願いが叶うころ あの子が 泣いているよ |
"The tears I cried are my freedom... The tears I held pack are a part of me I would hate to lose."
^Another favorite. From Fight The Blues. |
^I can relate to that sentence well. :)
|
omg. fuck having discussions lol We should just have updates that are random hikki quotes.
So we can all contemplate the higher meanings of being human on a regular basis. |
I totally just found some old singable english lyrics I wrote for a couple of Hikki songs!
"Light" (this one is supposed to be like the original Hikari lyrics) Spoiler:
"Goodbye Happiness" (this one has references to other Utada songs) Spoiler:
& last but not least a short poem I wrote inspired by the lyrics of Take 5: "Être comme le ciel" Spoiler:
The SEL's could probably use a little tweaking, but I'd like your guys' thoughts if you care to share them! (: I know I did a Prisoner of Love one too that was pretty decent. I'm trying to find that one as well. |
I did stuff like that too before my harddrive ate it all up. Now I've lost all motivation.
I had an especially good one for "Making Love". Hurts knowing I've lost it. My lyrics never had anything to do with the songs either. I just stole the melody. |
I always get teary-eyed because of Prisoner of Love lyrics :grumpy
|
^It's not a bad thing. I cry at Prisoner of Love every single time. Especially that Stay with me part always tears me up. :)
I never wrote any new lyrics to Hikki's song. I did do that for Kuu and Ayu few years ago but I never even thought of doing so with Hikki's amazing songs. I know that I used to write very Hikki inspired lyrics back in 2006 before I started listening to Ayu's music. Those were awesome but because English sucked at the time, these days I have no idea what I was trying to say. -.- |
These are my favorite lines of hers:
"We weren't entrusted with swords to hear them clash. How can we protect anyone under such a contradiction?" and "You don't have to try to be accepted by everyone; we have all been given a blade called individuality" (both from DEEP RIVER) |
^Oooh, those are both really good ones! :heart Deep River is a beautiful song!
Also from Deep River "We don't have to accept everything as freely as the name's we were given." |
Favorites Lyric:
"Sexy Stiletto Pumps, Tight Jeans, No Panties On, Oops! Did I Turn You On?! I only came to Pop My Body." She's a GOD. |
^I've always loved Poppin' lyrics. That song is just awesome. Only Hikki can pull that out♥

Those lyrics always give me a laugh...cause I can't imagine her doing that :laugh
Not unless she was seducing Kuma! |
I thought dirty desire was about Kuma :P

I also like "I was born alone. I'll go on living alone. I thought surely that kind of life is appropriate"
Oh wait |
^ that's a good one too
but my fave is from Nijiiro bus "Dare mo inai sekai e watashi wo tsurete ite" So much truth Such wow |

Was gonna post it, but I did before in one of these previous discussions and didn't want to repeat. Plus what I chose this time is better. |
ugh guys the beat in TOKYO Nights gives me life
|
^That beat is sick♥
One of my favorite Hikki lines in a song is this: "However great the fear, I will not look away If at the end of everything, there is love" The last lines of Sakura Nagashi. So true♥ And it's from the official translation. I now realized that this translation is pretty bad because some parts just makes no sense, which makes me wonder who actually did the translation. I don't think Hikki did because if she did, it would be weird. :D |
I don't know if ya'll can see it, but look at the words I circled in Nathan Drake's Journal.
I'm playing Uncharted 2 and I took a picture of my television screen. Once again Utada makes her presence in gaming known. http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps653d0fbb.png |
What is that a reference to?
|
It's a line Utada used in "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence - FYI" on her This Is The One Album.
|
That explains that one line that I never got :laugh
Funny cause I just googled the phrase yesterday for another Jpop song! |
It's like a Buddhist chant or something
|
Yeah, It's a Tibetan Mantra.
|
Oh, awesome that Utada references comes up everywhere. :D
|
Not really a Utada reference then... Kate Bush uses that in her song "Strange Phenomena" from 1978, so a reference to her too? :P

angela aki: gone
utada: gone like.... who's left? I need utada to release a song on december 31st so that it becomes the best song of the year. |
Could it be that I'm finally losing interest in Utada. No.
Would make things easier though...... |
I have a feeling that Godtada will return officially next year. Oh sweet mother of god!

If evangelion staffs can make her release a song for begging, why can't her fans. :( I really miss her so much. Though Sakura Nagashi still never gets old to me. I wan't a new song! HHa

WHEN WILL MY LAZY ARSE WATCH WILD LIFE?!
|
Quote:

UU06 & MTV Unplugged are my favorite performances she's released. Wild Life & Budokan are good too, but I've never seen Bohemian Summer.
|

But she isn't all that good working the stage... She seens lost sometimes and sometimes her live singing can be really sad... Kremlin Dusk and Be my Last at Utada United remains two of the worst vocal performances I ever saw by a professional singer. She herself admited more than once that she isn't much into performing. |

I adore her Devil Inside, Kremlin Dusk and You Make Me Want To Be A Man performances on Utada United! Yeah, she was straining but still. Especially Devil Inside and You Make Blabla sound great with a live band.

UTADA UNITED ftw!
|
I downloaded the Utada United tour ISO when it was released, burned it to DVD, and ended up throwing it in the trash. Her voice does not carry much power live. The subtleties in her "breathy" singing technique work nicely in the studio and translate well on record, but that does not carry over well into live performance for her IMO. I felt embarrassed watching. Honestly, I thought Kremlin Dusk live was atrocious. Thoroughly disappointed.
|
meh.
She's very sharp here and there, but who fucking cares lol tbh, I'm mainly happy she's just singing the right notes and that her voice isn't that harsh and ugly, especially when I compare her to other artists live. Koda live sometimes? Or Ayu during that one performance of Pride? Dear god. kremlin dusk WAS the best thing about In the Flesh though. And YMMWTBAM. I even listen to these live versions of these songs. I don't think they're that bad, but maybe because I'm too busy being amazed by the musical awesomeness, even after 10 years. |
^I tried to find and post that Pride Performance on here a month or so ago for.........educational purposes, but miraculously the only 2 on YouTube have the SOUND Removed.
The "lord" he works in mysterious ways. lol Quote:
|
I can overlook her live vocals because I don't really listen to J-Pop artists for their vocal prowess.
This is a tad embarrassing (not really) but I've been playing the shit out of This Is The One. |
^TiTO predicted a lot of musical trends that would come after it... There are a lot of tracks there that could easily be radio hits from 2010 until today and maybe one 1 or 2 years ahead.
|
Only Hikki Live that I haven't seen yet is Bohemian Summer. I did download it few years ago but I never watched it for some reason. I should though. :D
|
Well for Utada United she performed in a stage with wood that she was allergic to or something but her dumbass kept performing anyway zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz or so I read
Quote:
Girl can't sing live whatsoever but damn I love watching her theatrics. |
Quote:
Hikki never really had singing lessons... The first time she ever had a vocal coach was during 2003, and if I remember it right, it was also the last time. |

Trends go on circles, and Hikki also predicted the dance music boom... Exodus. =) |

Whoops. I was actually talking about Best Artist 2009.
Her "You were....." performance. |
^ too bad I can't hear it again :( oh well...
|
The Pride one was a tour...She had a really big dress....I think :/ The dvd fixed her audio, thank god. It was mainly at the end that was horrible. It might have been a cdl. idk. That was sort of around the time where I thought maybe I should never watch the TV versions anymore.
The thing is I know these girls aren't the best vocalists. I can deal with them being a little breathy, maybe a little sharp or flat. If I want to watch amazing vocalists, I'll go watch BENI or something. But I can not deal with them singing completely wrong notes or off key. And I don't think Hikki does that often. She still has a really good feel for the music, and I think the tone of her voice lends really well to -bad singing/technique that still sounds okay-. |
Quote:
|
But then we wouldn't have amazing songs like Blue :cry
idk tbh, I half want her to do like, an Eiko Shimamiya, and find a good vocalist she can compose and mix for. or like Yasutaka, but not as limited to the electro style as he is lol |
rolmfao. Keep trying, trying. Some people :trolleyes
|
I think my favorite Hikki performance is the one from the Japan Gold Disc Awards of Deep River :heart
|
My favorite performances from Utada on a small stage are her Music Lovers Performances when she was promoting her HEART STATION Album. Her TV Performances for "Passion" run a close 2nd.
|
Apparently Hikki attended some benefit dinner for the Philippines in Miami recently.
http://hauteliving.com/2013/11/miami...ppines/418685/ |
^I don't know who any of those named people are except Utada. And I didn't recognize any of those people in those pictures.
|
Watching an ep of vs. Arashi and they have a "mimic performers" special guest act, and one of the players is Miracle Utada... just a random observation...
I've never actually seen any of Hikki's lives, ever. What would be a good one to get me started? |
^^Probably just a bunch of random society people.
|
Quote:
Her Music Lovers performance promoting Heart Station is pretty nice, and her internet gig singing Passion and Boulevard of Broken Dreams is REALLY beautiful. Her dvd singing Colors, Simple & Clean and Shounen Jidai is really nice too. |
@Earth_maiden-- Definitely UU06 (but disregard or skip over Be My Last-- instead watch the Bokura no Ongaku performance of it)
I feel like JEWEL @ FNS Music Festival is to Ayu as Be My Last @ Bokura no Ongaku is to Hikki. |
At that fundraiser dinner--she is amazing at dodging any and all photographs loool
|
lol

What
In the flesh released? :O Also, that cd price.... I was gonna buy it but 150$ and 1800g. May as well sell my house. |
Ok, so the last studio album was released 5 years and 9 months ago. The last physical single 5 years and 7 months ago. The last digital single a year ago. Ok, we also got four new songs 3 years ago.
Nuuu this is not enough.... oh god... |
|
|
I'm only interesed in Disc 4
Is this considered a Best Album? WTF at that price!!!!!!!! |
Teruzane drops the ball again, of course. In The Flesh, a US/UK show is a iTunes Japan only release? The serious fuck?
Still getting that Deluxe First Love whatever the hell it's called. Selling my kidney for it, true story. |
Fuck I got my hopes up. I'm pissed now.
|
I'm glad In The Flesh is being released at all.
For those interested, you can buy Japanese iTunes cards here. I use it all the time. edit: Bought it. It says the recording is compiled from Feb 8th 2010 at Irving Plaze NY and Feb 12th 2010 at Academy Islington London. She also sings Placebo's The Bitter End by the way. edit 2: ugh iTunes won't let me rip the audio ;__; |
I just pre-ordered First Love -15th Anniversary Deluxe Edition. My poor wallet!
|
This is the first time I've seen an Utada release being released in such a manner. Kind of fun, actually. LOL at In The Flesh being in iTunes JP only LMAO!
|
What the shit...? In The Flesh is finally out and I can't buy it or even watch the Youtube videos from it?! Seriously?! It's the show I attended and everything :(
& did I read that about the First Love Limited Edition that it will contain UNRELEASED tracks..? :O |
^ You can buy it. Just use a Japanese iTunes card to get around the can-only-buy-if-you-live-in-japan business.
Anyhow. I watched it last night and I really liked it. Her voice was good; a bit straining sometimes but that's just her style I guess. Her chatter between songs was really cute and she looked great <3 Now I just gotta figure out how to rip the audio :irked |
^On that site you listed they're asking $50 for a $30 card... Can you say rip off? I'll pirate it as soon as someone posts it and then I'll buy it when her piss poor manager for a father gets it released in the country the event took place in. :laugh
