Tbh the covers aren't THAT bad but in the vein of Mika, they could definitely be better. Still gonna preorder the limited bundle anyway. Hopefully she includes Memory :x

I honestly like the concept. It shows progression in a way. I need to see the tracklist before I decide whether or not to buy though. I LOVE Mika, but if the albums have too many ballads I may pass =/

its sad because i m a huge mika fan , i love her voice , love her style ,love her fashion i bought all her albums up till now . i think those 2 will be an exeption (i love the songs but i dont see the point of owning the same songs twice ) . if at least they had bonus footage or bonus songs or a whole new pv or some kind of photobook added as a bonus i would think about it .

im just mad that those record labels have so much power over the artist ( remind me of what happen with the first a best from ayu ) i wish mika re recorded her old songs with new arrangements .

And yeah usually premium live shows are super intimate & upclose which have a very different feeling as compared to arena , hall and/or dome tour like settings

I disagree. I think if you are a die-hard fan and have collected a lot of releases throughout her career, there's no logical reason to get this--unless of course you have OCD and just need to ~complete your collection or whatever.

Depending on the tracklist I think this may be attractive to the more casual listener...say, people who really liked a few of her ballads but couldn't be bothered to buy an entire album just to get those few songs. This way they can just buy one release and have more songs they would have a tendency to like.

That said, I won't be touching these with a ten-foot pole.

I know I'm a sucker and I'm mainly buying it (as in, Tears, don't care for Dears ahah) for collection purpose and also for the extra DVD footage they mentioned.

I think best of /singles collection albums are made for more casual listeners so that they can get the hit singles (and others) all in one.
So who knows, it might actually do good if it's decently promoted.

I'm buying both cause I don't own any of her shit so this release is really hyping me up.

oh and the premium fanclub live events started yesterday, Mika sang a total of 12 songs, piano voice style. Fans said she made a full comeback and sang amazingly. I guess air yoga did help a lot!

agreed! although i really enjoyed her voice ( really LOVED that photoshoot too :luv2) and those covers were done really well vocally, im not a big fan of all those artists doing cover albums in general . it feels like they have to do a release they have no new material so they do cover ... or that album is a filler in between releases. i know its very trendy in japan ..... so a lot of artists fallow that trend hoping it wll push for higher sales ( since it target both older and younger generation)

if they cover one song once in a while and ad it as track on a whole new album or as b side i dont mind but a whole album full of covers not my thing ( not saying its bad , just a matter of personal taste here).

If I'm not mistaken , I don't think she has done a tour to promote best albums but we'll see . Both best albums could have been better if she re-recorded some of the songs , like what happened for BEST :x

I don't own anything by Mika and I think I may start with these best albums. I can't afford to buy them both at the same time, so which one do you guys think I should buy first? (Given that I'm sure a lot of you guys are long-time fans.)

Honestly I don't know because before the tracklist for both best albums were changed (3 times & counting) , I would say probably DEARS as the 1st tracklist for it contained some of her earlier/best known works but if you already own BEST , having DEARS might be a bit reluctant

But now the tracklist for both consists of both her old & recent singles being jumbled up all over the place , I really don't have a good answer

I would personally recommend DEARS. There is a lot of good up-beat tracks and ballads on it.

I would recommend TEARS but I haven't listened to quite a few tracks off of it, but I would want it purely for LEGEND haha.

it's a really hard choice to make, because they made the tracklists so well that both contain must have songs... But I think I would recommend Tears for a more casual listener because of all the classics it contains (ORION, Yuki no Hana, Sakurairo Maukoro, Aishiteru, Helpless Rain etc... it would still be missing a few hit songs like LIFE and GLAMOROUS SKY, but oh well. If I had to make a choice, I would probably get Tears first (and I did actually as of now, I'll probably buy Dears along with it if I can make up my mind by then ahah... (AND I also prefer the original cover ahah)

For some reason I feel Dears is more of a fan pleaser because it contains a lot of fan's favorites that weren't really hits in Mika's career (ALL HANDS TOGETHER, ONE SURVIVE, I DON'T KNOW, Boku ga...). But maybe it's just me.... I honestly don't know but that's the way I see it.

But here again, it depends what type of song you like best :).

I was leaning towards DEARS for that reason, and after what you guys said it seems like DEARS might be the better choice? I liked Fighter a lot, too, though..

My God, I finally listened to "Yes" album (the only remained unlistened album is True). I must say that I fuckin love it! The only problem are the first three boring ballad songs. But except those, the record is so diverse and awesome: we have blues, gospel, jazz, rock, pop, reggae, country and even some bossa nova. I can't believe it took me so long to listen to it. What do you guys think of Yes?

edit: I noticed that a lot of songs have gospel influence, so I guess that's the main style of the album

YES was the 1st Mika album I listened to & I still have fond memories of it

I know quite a lot of fans didn't liked YES as it was more Gospel driven as compared to her other albums but the photoshoot itself is still 1 of my faves up to now

And yeah the 1st 3 songs in YES are not that good but I like her cover of Ozaki Yutaka's I LOVE YOU . It has been covered to death by many artistes but Mika's version is nice

The first 3 ballads are way more mainstream than the rest of the album, that's for sure :)
I know YES oddly contains a few fans favorites, especially in concerts. It's a very soothing album overall, not my personal favorite but I can say I love it for being really different and on certain days it's certainly a perfect album to relax.

I listened to True also. This is another great album. I've been a regular fan of Mika since REAL was released two years ago but now I'm officially a stan. I like how True is more disco and groovy than the rest of her discography. It's a great feat how all her albums are so different one from another. Just like ayu.

Yeah I agree with you in that each of her albums have an unique identity going on with each other . It makes the experience of listening to her albums even more fun

In a way it's hard for me to pick which's my fave Mika album but the one that I 1st listened which got me into supporting her eventually was YES so that still holds rather special memories for me

I say buy TEARS ...I found it very difficult to get into Mika and it holds more of the easy accesible songs...Dears on the other hand is really Mika-ish

edit: okay forget it..just saw the new tracklist. I would recommend to listen to 3-4 random songs from each and buy the one where you liked more.

^ hard to tell, I would tend to say they're probably gonna include them in the next original album. Seeing how Sony has been cheap with Mika, I would be surprised if they keep it solely for the best albums.. But you never know..

She seems to be doing smaller venues this time around. For the Tokyo dates, for example, Bunkamura Orchard Hall holds just over 2,000 people compared to Tokyo International Forum Hall A's capacity of 5,000. I wonder why? Seems like the setting for this tour will definitely be a little more intimate.

^ I don't know if that's the reason but she said she really enjoyed doing more intimate concerts after the first Premium Live she did in October for her fans.

Maybe the last tour didn't sell as good either... Even though I went to both Tokyo dates in July and a few friends went to the opening show and last show and it was not sold out but pretty close to it iMO.

Still a bit sad it'll be the first tour I won't be able to see ever since 2009 :( I could eventually make it work but honestly, April is the most expensive period to go to Japan... and that would mean going for a week, a week and a half tops... Doesn't seem to be worth it :/

No it's not don't worry, she's been recording lately and they're going to record Yuki no Hana during the budokan concert for some upcoming project

I still think somewhere out there TEARS is selling better than DEARS cos Sony used a new cover for it unlike DEARS :p

Jokes aside , it should be due to some of the songs included in TEARS that're still prominent Mika songs up to now such as ORION + Yuki no Hana
