The promotion for this album is so bad, jeez... So far there is nothing to look forward other than the leak/actual release.
|
I kinda like the new bear she has. Koda Kuma creeped me out. It was too sexual sometimes, like a fantasy for Furries.
|
The new bear is horrid. It looks like the brand ambassador for a type of ice cream that you'd eat off a stick.

She has plenty of radio and online promotion.
SOMETIMES DREAMS COME TRUE: http://api.viglink.com/api/click?for...ound%2F13.html Another one I'm really curious about her japanese lyrics. |
Quote:
Really wishing I hadn't listened to the demos. Kuu's versions just are not doing it for me. |
That's sad.
I listened to them, but I can't even remember how SOMETIMES DREAMS COME TRUE sounded like. Edit: New Magazine! Jelly 03/17 http://rhythmzone.net/koda/schedule/...php?id=1026942 |
I never liked Koda Kuma either (too kitsch/cutesy... but that's Japan for you...) Only the wordplay makes sense, obviously. But at least it is well designed.
With the new character it looks like they didn't even try. Why they need more characters anyways? Staaahp!! XD You think there will be costumes of this pink bear jumping around on stage at the concert? I think it is very likely. *shudders* :/ |
As long as Kuu doesn't put out a mascot creepy like ayupan, I'm good tbh This one is tacky, but could be terrible
About the song, I didn't like it in Jessie J's voice, and now I still don't like it. Too much screaming, and the song seems out idk |
Short LQ preview of You can keep up with me:
http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/1...eId=0_06_02_99 Thanks to kinot on baidu Short previews of the FC Live: Dance In The Rain http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XOTA4NzAyMDQ0.html Ningyo Hime http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XOTA4NzAzNjE2.html PW for both: WOML Thanks to Kyu_Leon_Kumi_ on baidu Album and single song description from Kuu herself: Spoiler:
From her playroom FC blog. THanks to kinot on Baidu. Looking on all those album previews I can see, why Kuu said it's a challenge to sing some of those and why she took vocal lessons. :laugh ANd she's calling it "the challenge album" herself in that description. PLus she's saying there's no JPop in the album. |
Sorry for double posting, don't want to stuff in everything in one post.
Digital first week ranking for WALK OF MY LIFE (the song) iTunes 50 WALK OF MY LIFE recochoku Single/Chaku Uta full 33 WALK OF MY LIFE Chaku Uta 16 WALK OF MY LIFE RBT 10 WALK OF MY LIFE Like It is officially released today on all digital platforms as well. |
Thanks for all the info, Corvina!
Yeah, no J-pop. She mentions that in the beginning she was scared her fans wouldn't like the album, but now she's confident. I like how she mentions that, during her debut she was happy as long as she could sing anything, but now she sings what she wants and she's in control. She has really grown as an artist. |
Thanks for posting all these info, can't wait to get home to watch/listen the previews!
Interesting she's challenging herself this way, the album already does sound different to me, not only cause there seems not be an Ai no uta ~episode XIV~ or girls ~episode XLIX~, but also songs like HOTEL and Dance In The Rain does not sound like recycled stuff. Having high hopes for this album omg |
It was hard to read the track descriptions because someone put the kanji into their Chinese counterparts >_> i hate when they do that tbh.
Nevertheless I loved money in my bag's commentary. Oh kumi... |
can someone translate those?
|

^GORGEOUS :heart

omg this should have been one of the covers :thud

Finally wanted to share my Happy Box with you guys.
This is what I got: Spoiler:
-a.nation 2006 shirt -a-nation 2011 small pouch -a-nation 2013 neon backpack -a-nation 2013 sports towel -Dejavu Tour 2011 photo frame -Japonesque Tour 2013 acryl bracelet -Premium Night ~Love & Songs~ (2012) Kuma keychain -Let's Party Vol. 2 (2013) big bath towel I'm so happy about the rare 2006 a-nation shirt and the Let's Party towel! All in all I've got 3 things double. Though I'm a bit sad it's all pretty old stuff. I actually hoped for some more recent merchandise (more from Let's Party Vol.2 or Bon Voyage Tour e.g.!). But it's a great mix of different stuff. |
Oh, that's REALLY great in my opinion! I'm totally buying one the next, I didn't expect it to have so many things
|
^that best live dvd pic should have been the cover as well. She looks so damn fine there.
I hate to say it, but after listening to all the new material I feel like it's gonna be my least favourtire Kuu's album. Out of all the songs I'm only really liking WOML & Hotel. And it's not like I'm disliking the quality of the songs, it's just the album sounds so western for obvious reasons. I wanna hear more Japanese composers on the album. And wth that new bear looks atrocious. Koda Kuma was so cute. |
Omg that like it or whatvever, fucking tragic. How annoying can you possibly make a song? Seriously? That background? Those noises? Get your shit together girl. Her sound has become more desperate.
|
Where were they hiding that tshirt? Its almost 9 years old o.o !!! Ive gotten one happy box in 2006 or 7..wish i could get this one :(

How has no one talked about the Gimme U preview up on her website? This is easily the best one so far.
|
^ It has just came out hahahaha Really liked it, but PIECE IN THE PUZZLE is still my favorite
I guess that by saying there's no JPop in the album she means music created by Japanese composers? So it would be Western stuff, only sang in Japanese |
Might be just a tad bit late, but I've just watched the "Like It" PV & I absolutely 'like' it, alright! :luv2 :D
I loved everything about the PV! :love The dancing was probably the best part & completely made the video just so good. :D Kuu looked incredibly fierce throughout the whole video. :heart And those stunts she did (like those backflips) were incredible & so cool, too! Totally loved this PV, so much! And I'm in total love with the song, too. :heart It's so catchy & so fabulous! |
http://rhythmzone.net/koda/sound/08.html
Gimme U Finally, i found the song i loved from this album after hopelessly released ones |
Wow a kumi album where Im ok with most songs. is this her most consistent album to date? :O
There's a good chance I may become a fan of hers with this album. |
Is it me or all the previews and released songs from this era have in common the loudly, repetitive vocals in the chorus? As for the jpop discussion, I don t mind that she decided to do a full on western album with japanese vocals as long as I get to enjoy the tracks. 6 more days to go but I bet that in 2-3 days we ll have a leak. maybe even sooner hopefully.
|
so far I'm interested in this album. by previews, it sounds more fun, I like the promo pictures and the goods too :)
|
The credits of the album. Probably missing some names.
Spoiler:
|
Now that's a lot of people involved in writing an introduction :roflmao
|
Hm, according to those credits, Kuu wrote Lippy, the interlude and Fake Tongue on her own?
But wasn't Lippy a demo by Phrased Differently? And Gimme U is by Matthew Tischler, nice. He did Love Me Back, Lay Down, Black Candy and Whatchu Waitin' On?. |
^ Oh, I didn't recall this. He's done only amazing tracks with Kuu then, all of these are among my favorite songs from her of this decade, no joking
|
I will always remember his name for doing awesome Love Me Back. I swear, this song is perfection to me.
As much as I'll always remember Tommy Henriksen for BUT. :laugh |
I misread the hashtags of this thread as "queen of my life" . Just wanted to share that.
|
PIECE IN THE PUZZLE sounds so awful but goddamn it the line "piece in the puzzle, piece in the puzzle" has been stuck in my head.
|
when u google Hi-Yunk (LIFE is GOOD!! credits) u can watch some japanese garage rock band live videos...
could imagine Kenji was the main factor for this cause i think they're indie and sound terrible live #lmao so i hope at least it's some fun summer rock jam like some early UVERworld... Quote:
i think she wrote almost completely new lyrics, thats all |
Its nice that she participated in the lyrical writing process for all songs :)
This makes the album more personal. |
Quote:
it was my new cherry girl... well it was my second cherry girl <3 |
iirc she's been writing or co-writing all her songs since Dejavu, and prior to it there would be only one or two in the album which she didn't write, excepting grow into one (not sure about affection). From the songs in UNIVERSE, e.g., the only one she didn't write was ECSTASY

Even tho I wasn't impressed with none of the previews so far when I saw the album on Canadian iTunes I couldn't help but to pre-order. Now it better be at least not too bad. lol They even added Premium Night CD and some new lives. Interesting.

I'm not sure how to feel about the previews.
They're not really my style. I also think there's a lot going on in them. I'll definitely give them a try when the full versions are available. I love Dance in the rain though. |
Can this album leak already? I can't take it anymore. haha
@Possessionless: Nice dissertation, I was really cool to read about the japanese music market and the images of the singers. |
I'm still excited for the album but I have to say that I never thought Kuu would ever do an anniversary like this. When Ayu didn't promote her 15th anniversary much (although she did have 2 TV performances while Kuu has none) I wasn't that surprised but I expected more from Kuu. I know she's doing a lot of radio promotion but literally no one in Japan listens to radio so its useless promotion.
|
ahahaha... I ordered the pamphlet and mug set!
Waiting for other goods! Slow and sure, momma.. take my money~ |
Preordered the pamphlet as well :D
|
Well I will say the quality of photos and crispness of delivering somewhat of a cohesive "image" for this era is nice. Really, Ayu hasn't had such quality in her image in AAAAAAAAGES. But the music is just terrible. I have complained about Ayu's lack of concept and quality on the visual/image side of things for a while now, but if an uprise in the quality of imagery comes at the expense of annoying music releases, then count me out.
|
^ BYE ZEKE.
I love the visuals for this era. Everything just feels so big and rich and it reminds me a little of JAPONESQUE in that sense lmao. It just feels like she's releasing another big, grand scale album if that makes any sense. The leaked demos are still a little worrying, but I think I'll like the album in the end. I just hope it feels like a complete album and not like Bon Voyage where it's just a bunch of upbeat, "catchy" songs stacked on top of each other lol |
I don't know why we have to rbing up ayu here who is like a complete different artist... kinda dumb.
DITR, HOTEL, WOFML and Like It are among her best songs in recent years...and pretty grand and it is not like she threw out music. |
Quote:
I bring up Ayu cause the blame is often placed on avex for ayus lack of concept and/or failing to convey a cohesive image. Or as Tom Punks put it, something "grand;" however, Kumi is also a part of avex and for some reason her creative team is like light years ahead of ayus. I may have been disappointed by a lot of Kumi's music releases after she gave birth, but at least she has always been able to convey some sort of creative vision. There are valid bases for comparison between artists; I've always hated that argument that you can't make comparisons based on two artists being different people. Comparison based on gender, comparison based on cohesion, comparison based on quality, comparison based on style, comparison based on label, etc. It's not like I'm comparing her to a fucking apple. |
People compare contemporaries (and non-contemporaries) all the time.
The fact that they -are- contemporaries gives all the more reason to compare them. They have their differences, but they most definitely have their similarities. If they didn't, their fans wouldn't constantly be down each other's throats. :P |
Did anybody share the full PV of WALK OF MY LIFE?
http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/nKOzAGn3QPw/ There 2 additional scenes at the end. The message is cute. |
@Zeke.: I think Ayu is quite confuse with what she wants to bring to her image. Because of that, she tries to shoot at every target, and it gets messy. She's a cute sweet peach colored girl (like Love Songs), or a train wreck mess (Like XOXO, NaNaNa...). I think she just needs to find the balance. And also, she is always the executive producer of most the materials she releases, the creative team might tell her what is better to her, but at the end she is the one who has the final voice.
I finally got all the names of producers, composers and writers for the album. 1. I've just heard a few of the previews, but from what I've heard (even though they're just previews...) I'm totally loving how this album is sounding, so far! :love Right now, my favorite preview is "Gimme U". :heart I think I've already got it suck in my head! :laugh :P Now I absolutely can't wait to listen to the whole album. :D
|
Can anyone recommend a good English-language Koda Kumi forum? I love stalking this thread but I find myself wanting more, lol.
Thank you in advance :) |
Fake Tongue preview up on her website, and agaaaaaaaaaaain I adore the song o____o This album is gonna slay me so hard omg
I'm loving this teasing with the previews, if the album leaks this weekend I guess I won't listen to it until all previews come out (ok lol no) |
Ugh, her vocals. Who the fuck did she take training lessons from? Good God. I was listening to Kumi today and her voice used to be much more palatable. Kind of smooth, just a tad bit husky in all the right ways. Sometimes silky like in feel or even Someday...
|
The newest preview isn't as good in terms of vocal ability but I'm being honest when I say that this is the first Koda Kumi album that I have ever been excited for. Kumi has been so far serving a very cohesive sound unlike 90% of her other albums etc and it feels like she knows the sound she wants for the album. If Kumi serves with this album I swear I'll become a Kehova's Witness.
Also does anyone get sega master system vibes from 'you can keep up with me'? |
FAKE TONGUE IS AMAZING, no more to say.
|
Yay, the preview I was waiting the most for!
Vocals aren't that good in the preview, but Fake Tongue sounds amazing! Nvm, it wasn't Fake Tongue. Next House Party, please. I wanna hear, how that 70's funk style sounds with Kuu, it's so unusual for her. |
I think this album will be like something new & fresh
|
The album is out on baidu. (check the 5th reply for the dl link & passwords)

thanks for the link

Thank you.
I'm listening to it ^-^ |
omg, I'm at Lippy right now. This song is so nice
|
On JPS as well :)
Piece in the puzzle is my jam so far but didn't listen to everything yet |
Will anyone be uploading elsewhere? My browser keeps translating baidu and I'm not sure if the password should be in Chinese characters lol.
|
I listened the whole album and i'm not 100% satisfied with it.
It's good to see she keep challenging herself with her albums but most of the sound of the album is not my linking. I'm also bothered with her vocals in some songs. I hate when she screams instead of singing. My opinion by tracks Introduction : Quite weak compared to her previous albums. Dance in the rain : I love that song. Quite different to her others mid-tempo. Lippy : The chorus are annoying. Don't like the whole song. Mercedes : I don't like it as well. Like it : I love it! The moments just before the chorus are amazing. I love the PV as well. IMO the best new song of the album. HOUSE PARTY : Fresh sound. I like the retro vibe. Interlude : Not so great. The one from Bon Voyage & JAPONESQUE were so much better. HOTEL : Good summer song, even though the lyrics are non sense. Gimme U : I like it. The chorus is pretty well sang. You can keep up with me : Noisy. I hate the way she sings it. MONEY IN MY BAG : A-M-A-Z-I-N-G PIECE IN THE PUZZLE : I love it. Chorus are fire. Great song. Fake Tongue : The beat is good. Not so into her way to sing the chorus. Sometimes dreams come true : I like it. The sound is fresh. LIFE so GOOD : Good chorus. Summer vibe. WALK OF MY LIFE : I love the song. A good ballad, different to her traditions. For the moment, this album is my least favorite. Hope it will grow on me. |
for the first listen i really love this omg
it's so different for her! Mercedes isn't the song i was hoping for but it's still good! You can keep up with me & Fake Tongue like wow Kuu applause for u! i'm really pumped for the final concert i'm going and the Opening with that intro >>>>>> yasss kumi come thru!! and her new hair color >>>> i hope it's the new era hair and not just for a day or side project... http://i62.tinypic.com/29or693.jpg |
Omg, the best part of the album is from Introduction through interlude. I was quite disappointed when hotel came in x.x
You can keep up with me, PIECE IN TH PUZZLE and Fake Tongue are good too. The ending song also. uggghh, LIFE so GOOD!! is like the worst of b-sides. sora/girls part 10000. |

I'm a bit disappointed after first listening, non of the new song is epic to me except Piece in the puzzle, some of them I couldn't even finish listening, it never happened to me with Kuu, maybe after few more listenings I will change my mind or maybe after seeing them live, the songs we already heard before are awesome though.
Introduction : Not as awesome as previous but I like it a lot 9/10 Dance in the rain : Still awesome, but the repetition of dance dance is so-so, wish the lyrics were slightly better 9,5/10 Lippy : Starts bad, then there's some good vocal but the chorus is not enjoyable 4/10 (for now) Mercedes : I may like it after seeing it life but for now it's nothing special 4/10 Like it : Love it, makes me think of Touch Down, but it's not as good 8-9/10 HOUSE PARTY : Not my kind of song, not something I want to hear from Kuu 4/10 (for now) Interlude : So-so 4-5/10 HOTEL : Still love it 10/10 Gimme U : This one is sweet and good, not my jam but enjoyable 8/10 You can keep up with me : At first it sounds like Lippy and Mercedes, screaming, annoying sounds and little melody 4/10 (so far) MONEY IN MY BAG : Still love it, best wake up song when I have to get up at 5am, gives me energy for the whole day (and suitable for work :>) 10/10 PIECE IN THE PUZZLE : LOVE IT, my jam so far, brrrrrava 10/10 Fake Tongue : Better than other new songs but nothing special so far 5/10 Sometimes dreams come true : Slightly more enhoyable than Gimme U, like it 8,5/10 LIFE so GOOD : beginning is annoying, but when Kuu starts singing it is ok, I may like it more after few listenings (I think I already start to like it) 6-7/10 WALK OF MY LIFE : There's still something off about it but it's a beautiful song 9,5-10/10 |
I think the best tracks were already pre-released. Something did not click with me so far (just like with BV). Its a nice and cohesive album, I just can't see myself listening to most tracks on their own somehow.
|
Okay..so..let's see:
Introduction ~WALK OF MY LIFE~ : great introduction, better than the Bon Voyage one Dance In The Rain : when this was released as a digital single, I simply hated it because of its chorus but now it starts to make more sense in the context of the album so I'll give it props for that. The verses are nice though and it could have been a great song if not for those scratchy vocals (in the chorus) Lippy : amazing intro, I love this. Something fresh from Kuu Mercedes : I really like this song too. Kuu's pronuncion in the chorus is a bit off but its acceptable. I was expecting a banger (from the title) but I'm satisfied with it. Its like a sister of SHOW ME YOUR HOLLA Like It : amazing song, I love Kuu's attitude throughout the song. Reminds be a bit of Lollipop House Party : love the retro vibe, reminds be of some Lady Gaga unreleased songs. THE ROOF THE ROOF IS ON FIRE~~~~~ Interlude ~Dance~: not anything special but it's a good closure to the first part of the album. ~Gotta dance dance~ |
Pics of the DVD edition and booklet:
Spoiler:
Thanks to 小咸魚水水 and 舌尖上的乳頭 on Baidu And I had the feeling, people who like JPop won't like this album, lol. Listening to it right now. |
It worked now for some reason. haha |
^
^ She looks amazing, especially the b&w ones! I wish the Sometimes Dreams Come True photo wasn't blurry :laugh I can usually guess Ayu's lyrics by ear but Kuu's lyrics always remain a mystery until official lyrics come out lol I think this album is the type that needs a few listens. Sometimes Dreams Come True is instant love though <3 And I'm still addicted to Like It. |
I was really excited for this album, but I'm just left with a series of bad impressions. The only songs I actually love are Dance In The Rain, WALK OF MY LIFE, Gimme U, and PIECE IN THE PUZZLE. Like It, Lippy, LIFE so GOOD!, and MONEY IN MY BAG are nice. Everything else I could live without. Mercedes is definitely the worst though.
Her past albums since TRICK have been mostly Western songs, with each release being more so, but she just picked the worst demos for this album. I think this going to be my least favorite album from Kuu, which is sad since she has been so consistent for so long. |
