^the song sounds pretty okay to me, especially after a few listens. The PV is kinda weak yes. Overall i think it fits their major theme of becoming more grown up. I gotta say I still love them for sticking to the same hairstyle for years. i love if you decide one thing is your thing and you stick to it till the end (like Mika Nakashima album names and so on)
|
I thought the PV was beautiful, but the chorus isn't really good.
|
I am loving this new song.:heart
It reminds me of 2000s Perfume and I think that is why I like this song a bit more than some recent releases. I felt like Perfume was heading in an EDM direction that I didn't want. |
Love this song, it's chill but still exciting!
|
The song is really good - except the chorus. A pity or else I'd really like it.

http://i.imgur.com/K5Wy5F3.jpg And, yes, I feel like Nakata is really out of inspiration with Perfume. He probably have a really long term contract with the record and can't stop doing musics for Perfume. That's my theory. Because he is really recycling some stuff for their music. :/ |
^I don't think it is frustrating to them...since they seem pretty much in charge of their own and choose to do that.
and that is no different hairdo, just a style as you said.. I rather meant that they keep the overall concept in their triangle. Nocchi changed the style of her hair to from time to time, but the length remained |
There's no way they are allowed to change their hair on a whim. Perfume's whole image is based around them being super in-sync robots, so keeping the same look is definitely part of that. If fans throw a fuss about a hair parting I'd hate to see what would happen if they dyed their hair or cut it :laugh

^hmm from what i can remember they pretty much have say, yet they have a team that does it for them and they tell what they like and don't like. As for their music, Nakata wants to do them all on his own, but the girls wished for less autotune and pretty much got it the time before Sweet Refrain and you still can hear how their music has changed and progressed since then.
You have to remember that they are neither newcomer nor new to the business and most contracts last for 5 years. When you get successful pretty quick, you get more say when you renew a contract - like own lyrics, music etc., if not, you just can't wish for things like that and hope for a good deal. As they became famous with GAME and their popularity only increased, it is the label that has to offer so that the artist does not leave - of course it is up to the musician what he wants in the end and I don't think the girls want to coordinate what they do (which is more like a whole product made from different parts (visuals, choreography, sound and lyrics) on their own - and I don't even think they would be able to since they are not "just a band" that can write their own music and go on tour with that. You can see that other artist fought for that to - but everything you do is still negotiation (only a very few label say "do what you want and we will see", sometimes they try that and let it go when it works or work closer with the artist if it flops). Koda Kumi is a pretty good example - she is producing all her tours (just like ayu) chooses her music and her way of presenting it, but probably gets the notice that she should include certain songs for profit (or at least gets the suggestion by her team). |
^I still don't think they have control over their image. There's no way normal women wouldn't change their hairstyle even a bit just to see how it'd look like.
The more success, the more freedom, yes, but for some things the labels are pretty restrict. BoA, for example, debuted in 2000s, but her label only allowed her to cut her hair short in 2011. She said in some interviews she was forbidden to change her hairstyle and I think it's pretty much the case with Perfume, which is a shame, it's tiresome to be wearing the same hair for years. |
^well, they are changing it a bit :)
|
Full "TOKYO GIRL" PV! :heart

Nocchi did express wanting an even shorter hairstyle and Kashi wanting something like a pixie cut in a radio show before I think. |
^I think it's sad that they believe they need to stick to the same hairstyle to not lose their "identity".
|
^for me they kinda have to. I dunno, it makes them them and everything they do (especially their performances) seems to be on point. Their image was always kinda robotic-like and I'm both lad and surprised they sticked to it and lastet so long.
|
^But maybe you have this feeling because they have been with that visual for all these years. If since the beginning they changed little by little their hairstyles and etc, maybe their image wouldn't be so dependent on their looks.
|
^but I love consistence in an artistic concept. I think art needs that - to o through with it. They could were wigs though.
I think it is a bother when artist stop that. Good examples are Ai Otsukas or Mika Nakashimas album-titles. A bad example are the album titles of YUI. |
^ Truthfully, I like the consistency. It just makes every little change that they do with their hair super refreshing, at least in my opinion. Like A-chan's styles in SAMT/Spice for example, Kashi's in Laser Beam/Glitter/1mm or Nocchi's in Tokyo Girl/Cling Cling---all were surprising but pleasant. They were still recognizable and well received by most fans. I think it's a good marketing technique, since anyone, even nonchalant fans who only know Chocolate Disco, would be able to recognize them. I personally don't think they'd be as successful if they didn't stick to it.
Honestly though, I'd feel weird if Nocchi suddenly donned long blonde hair, or Kashi/A-chan went with something outlandish like lime-green or pink lol. |
Guys, it's just hairstyles. They've been releasing successful songs, concepts, albums and etc. Irefuse to atribute all that just to the fact that they "never changed hairstyles so they can have consistence".
I like to believe that, yes, if they changed hairstyles every albums they'd be just as successful. |
lol I saw this recently and I barely recognized Nocchi :laugh
|
The other song from the "Tokyo girl" single is avaible in full. It has very visible elements of "Communication" and -in my opinion- "Sweet refrain". It's pretty nice. As for me it will propably be played more often than Tokyo girl but still nothing that special. Generally I have tendency to play in loop their B-sides like "Ijiwaru na Hello" or "Koi wa Zenkei Shisei". They make a really nice background for everyday chores. The same is with this one.

Spoiler:
UPDATE 2/17: Day 2: down to #3, 8,236 (HKT48: 9,632) Day 3: still #3, 3,683 (HKT48: 4,908) UPDATE 2/21: Why hasn't anybody bother to update? Day 4: still #3 (2,403) Day 5: down to #4 Day 6: down to #5 Next post is the weekly numbers... |
Sorry for double posting, but since no one bother to update the sales numbers, I've decided to post it.
Perfume: #2 on Oricon for the weekly sales, with 49,032. (HKT48 was #1 with 210,070.) |
Tokyo Girl is great! Giving me that 2011 vibes.
|
Houseki no ame tho <3. Make an album with this along with all of their b-sides from their cosmic explorer era and you have one jammin' cohesive album yo
|
Cosmic Explorer dome edition is out, waiting for some friendly links although after watching the TV version I'm pretty sure it still will remain their weakest live, enjoyable nevertheless I have no doubt :P
EDIT: ok watched the show, both dome and standing edition (some shots more from audience perspective and it's from arena leg of the tour). I find the arena part of the tour much better. Found this english version of Baby Face from the American leg's digest: https://vimeo.com/211511786 adorable ^^ On youtube there are also Perfume no okite and Handy Man. |
Sorry for double post but wanted to refresh the thread with new cm for some bubble washing machine (lol). The song itself seems really refereshing and catchy! Maybe it's going to be a part of new single that was announced for the fall.
|
I like the new song
I though what they promote, and I got blank face when the washer comes out. |
"Everyday" is sooo cute! Hoping it'll be included in a new single, soon. :)
|
Thank you, I like it, reminds me to cosmic explorer
|
Hmmm, it kind of sounds like Baby Face to me, but I think that's just cause they're both tropical house. Anyways, I do like it! The beginning sounds epic. It whole song is giving me SAMT vibes.

That's very casual title, both actually. They should make one song from both "If you wanna , you make me happy every day, if you don't wanna, we make a party every day". I really like what I heard in the Panasonic cm so I can't wait to hear the whole thing ;)
|
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5s...-dance-edit_tv
can't believe this wasn't posted, the song sounds nice tho! |
I used to really love Perfume's sound but nowadays it seems so generic and al of the same :( I think Nakata just went into a formula in how to produce their songs. Everyday sounds like FLASH that sounds like STAR TRAIN that sounds like Sweet Refrain.
|
^ Yeah you have some right, though I think Everyday has a bit of refreshing sound, just not that much refreshing. I miss experimental sounds like Polyrhythm, a bit of hard to predict while listening. But it's not just Perfume that Nakata found his formula, Kyary suffers the same thing.
|
I think this sounds really good. It has a tropical feeling that I like.
|
Nakata used to be a Jpop god to me. I was so enamored with all of the electro music coming from Japan in the late 2000s and I loved everything he produced. But I feel that he has been influenced by western EDM and it has made his songs more dull to me. I know Perfume is a mainstream act and wants to follow trends but I feel like they were successful already when they were more original.
Their current output isn't bad at all but I don't get that excited to see what they will do next because I know it will be the standard Perfume of the last 4 years.:shrug |
^I think it is rather that they became more "adult" which caused a shift in sound. There are still a few showstopper here and there which stray away from their current sound. Overall they feel more laid back which gives off a more "boring" vibe.
|
I do think there is truth to that.:yes
I also like that their voices are a bit more natural these days. They have been doing music for quite a long time now but I guess I never thought they would try to be mature even if they became adults. I thought sweet and cute would be there thing forever.:laugh |
Ken Hirai did a cover of natural ni koishite, you can watch 2 second of the preview :laugh |
Idk I thought 3mm had a more mature sound and it's still a hell of a bop. Refined, elegant even. I hate that "mature" essentially means "less fun." Any time an artists endeavours are described as "more mature" it appears to always be that way. "It's not boring, it's just more mature." :rolleyes Why does maturity equate to putting a stop to the party, every damn time? Like keep the beats rolling please, and roll out the cake while you're at it.

Does anyone have a good rip of this alternative version of Polyrhythm that they'd want to share? I tried to find one myself but didn't really get anywhere. There's also a rip on YouTube, but it sounds much quieter, and I'd prefer a higher-quality version if possible.

heyyy, I have a random question from a casual listener: in the 1mm pv (in a few scenes at least) and the level 3 album cover kashiyuka had sported this hairdo without bangs, but never again (I believe?). i wonder why? has she ever been asked about this or explained this?
apart from that I wonder why nocchi is never allowed(?) to change her onigiri hairdo... |
^ Most of the japanese fans went CRAZY when Kashiyuka changed her haircut. They didn't liked it at all.
Nocchi used to have bangs and then switched to the onigiri hairdo. Nowadays they do some changes like ponytails, curls and stuff like that but never a drastic change. |
^I love that they stick to their three personas...but I don't think it has to do with allowance - it rather is something they put on themselves. Same goes for the outfits (usually long dress, miniskirt and pants)
|
well, seh didn't really change her haircut, didn't she? since it was only in a few scenes in the pv. so it must have been a weave/extensions?
I really hope she didn't change her mind bc of fan opinion; that would be harsh!! |
NEW SINGLE, "Mugen Mirai" out 3/14

It's a promotional picture for the single, covers aren't out yet.
But I agree, it's agreat photo. |
Oh true, thanks for correcting me. I am very curious about the single. We know "Fusion" already but we also know about the new project/song "Reframe" and it's not on the single. Still this pictures gives me very good vibes.
|
Isn't Fusion the one for the Docomo project?
|
oh that picture isn't one of the covers? I legit thought it was. it's so beautiful. I hope the covers live up to it.

https://m.miaopai.com/show/channel/G...8~jy7yIJNrsQ__ Link thanks to the Oricon thread on Baidu. I really like it, it's quite different for them lately. |
I really liked it! So cool <3
Can't wait for the whole single to come out! Thanks, Corvina! |
I like it, but not too impressed about the whole thing so far (?) The melody is good though, but it was overwhelmed by the arrangement
|
Mugen Mirai PV (short ver.):
|
Upon second listen, I really like this! Especially the beat.
|
Perfume sure is becoming more mature. I like it but I am not sure it is what their audience is looking for from them.:think
|
Quote:
so weird seeing their bangs like that. So used to them being perfectly styled and blow dried every time they're in public. |
Quote:
I really liked the music video. The A~chan shots are incredible. |
There is already a full video here:

Oh really? You guys expect the "kawaii vibe" similar to Kyary? I didn't expect that because, for me, they have never been kawaii after their major debut. haha
|
When Perfume started to gain popularity here with Game and Triangle, it was seen as cute because of the girly auto tune vocals, the dancing, and the upbeat electro sound. But then Kyary set the new standard for kawaii.:laugh
|
I took the chance to listen to Mugen Mirai since their music is on Spotify and omfg I am in LOVE!! Yasutaka Nakata’s EDM isnt bad at all! I love that it’s uplifting yet quite melancholy at the same time. Definitely going to keep a closer eye on them from here on out (last time I listened to them was Triangle).

|
FUSION is just amazing! <3 Love when Nakata do those banger tracks with almost none vocals like STORY, Party Maker and edge.
|
Do you want even more Fusion pedronekoi? ;)
Today there was a live stream "Reframe" with a great (i would say even hypnotizing) performance of Fusion. There was also Negai and Mugen Mirai. Negai was quite boring considering the whole "upload your picture we will use it during the performance" promotion. They just projected pictures that dissolved into particles that flew into the platform girls were standing. Mugen Mirai had some weird camera shaking at the beginning but if it wasn't for that I think it must look great with a stable view. The whole performance of the song is nice too. Here: https://youtu.be/5WQZ_Q8e_pU |
I also really love this single!
Too bad the single isn't doing too good. The drop in physical sales is quite small, but it's also not doing good digitally for them, only being at about 20k after two weeks. If you wanna wasn't certified as well, but it did a bit better. FLASH before got Platinum and TOKYO GIRL Gold. |
I loved this perfomance!!! I wish I could watch this live :( Kuddos to their creative team! Always on point!
|
I just found out that Perfume's GAME was featured in the 33⅓ Japan series! See here, for example. The book was written by Patrick St. Michel, who's a pretty great J-pop writer, so that makes me extra curious. I might drop some dollars on this sometime in the future.

Yeeesss, a new Perfume album! :heart
|
Future Pop and LM.C's new album is called Future Sensation haha
|
Let me know (radio rip):
http://mikietsang.tumblr.com/post/17...know-radio-ver |
After a few listen, the song grow with me so fast, I'm quite surprise myself either :tired
Yasutaka Nakata did a really good job with Perfume, as their music sounds much more mature without losing any cute-ness from them. I like how the song sounds dreamy and positive at the same time. One thing bother me slightly is the structure or the vibes has something in common in the recent songs ie "let me know" and "mugen mirai", I just wish there will be more adult-heavy-dub-techno-electro-ish songs like FUSION will appear on the next album. |
