y'all I remember stumbling across a really simple, one-page site that had all of Ayu's sales updated to this day, do someone know which one is it? I remember having a teal color somewhere

A ONE is so good. Some great new classics on there.

And the sales thing, a lot of it is just visibility and times changing.

I will forever stan for Story and No Future. No Future is just amazing and the development of the song is something we don't really get often. And I just truly think the composition of Story came together so perfectly with the arrangement. It's beautiful and like some other newer ayu songs, I think it would be so much more respected if it had been released earlier in career when people were not as tired of ballads. But I can still appreciate a good ballad when it's there, which is why I love A One. And will take it over something like Colours that needed better direction.

Also Walk :love

I'm really not a ballad person. So I've always been impressed by ayu's and hikki's ability to draw me into so many of theirs. walking proud is still one of the best songs I've heard.

I went to a Book off near Namba station in Osaka, searched for a long time for Ayu and then I found her name but the shelf was empty! I went to the DVD section and they only had PoM 2011 for like 3400Y, I bought it.

Near Namba Station there is also a Tower Records so I went there, they only had 4 Ayu CDs : one Made In Japan, one A BEST -15th anniversary-, one A SUMMER BEST 2CD+DVD and I cant remember the last one, I bought A SUMMER BEST since its the only compilation missing from my collection, but I didnt really save money except for the shipping fees lol

I then went to Dotonburi and Shisaibashi and was surprised to find another Book Off there, this time the CD section had two Ayu CDs : Love Again and the limited version of A COMPLETE. I have those two already so whatever. The DVD section only had a copy of COMPLETE LIVE BOX but it had the last DVD missing, I have COMPLETE LIVE BOX already so... But i remember it was very cheap there!

I am really surprised at the lack of Ayu stuff, when I went to NYC last year the Book off had so much of Ayu that I was overwelmed and didnt know what to pick lmao.

I really depends on what Book Off you go to. I'm not sure about Osaka, but the Shibuya and Akihabara Book Offs have tons of stuff.

indigochild 25th July 2018 10:25 PM

Totally random but as a huge fan of Taylor Swift, am I the only who kind of sees parallels between Taylor Swift's career and Ayu's? Both were found by their producers or whatever in a music club. (Taylor at a music cafe. Ayu at some nightclub I believe). Both write their own lyrics. Both are known for their lyrics. Both had "scandalous" relationships. Both did pretty extreme genre change while still remaining successful (Taylor: country to pop. Ayu: pop to heavy rock). They both take care and attention into their music videos and have some underlying message in them.

It was just something that's been on my mind for a while lol

DonkeyKongRemix 25th July 2018 10:42 PM

^I have contemplated that idea before too.

I feel like in an alternate universe, Ayu could have been suited to country. :)

rainbow_smile 25th July 2018 10:44 PM

I love ballads and the reason I've always stanned ayu was mostly bc of her ballads, I guess that's why I don't have any problem with her recent music

Two of my favorites on that album! Story is right up there with No way to say for me, and I've lost count of how many times I've heard NO FUTURE. I think in many cases, some of these songs would have benefited from singles or even good PVs, so they could stand out more, especially for fans that aren't really into ballads.

Glad I'm not the only one! It's almost uncanny how similar the trajectory of their careers are lol I could also see Ayu do country-esque music. Similar to Kana Nishino's Darling.

Refix 26th July 2018 01:00 AM

I kinda hope yesterday performance was something like this, fun and full movement. Every inch of her in here is SLAY. Don't mind the vocal cause it's normal when you sing and dance live.
Looking how active she was and taking care of her body in IG, I got high hope... that pretty bird of hope is crash and burn and splat to the ground.

Xianghua 26th July 2018 01:06 AM

Wow really? I was just listening to Story earlier. I actually forgot it existed. It's not that it's a bad song but it's just really lacking something special to me, sounds kind of bland. I really love the majority of A ONE though; Out of Control, NO FUTURE, and Last Minute being my some of my favorite songs from her.

Xianghua 26th July 2018 01:21 AM

I feel the same, I get bored listening to it. (also the gift and anything for you. i like all the others but kinda split on zutto)

Anything for You is a blessing hymn, if there's something going wrong in your life it must be because you skip this song!

summerain 26th July 2018 09:55 PM

I think I'm one of these three people in the world (the other ones being Ayu and JJ Lin) who really likes The GIFT, specially her vocal interpretation approach. It's soft, mature and delicate.

truehappiness 26th July 2018 09:57 PM

The GIFT is okay but it definitely lacks something. JJ has much better songs so it feels like Ayu got a random thing laying around. Same goes for some Colours collaborations.

Gustavopc 26th July 2018 10:19 PM

The GIFT is the only track from A ONE I ever skip, and not always I skip it. A ONE is a solid album for me and every track is unique even if their instrumentals weren't new into her career. But I do think she paid a lot of attention to the atmosphere of the songs and the feelings she wanted to convey. I just LOVE when music makes me feel stuff, and A ONE is full of that to me. Of course being catchy is also good for a pop song, but if I get no emotions from the song I'll grow over it soon. Be it boldness, power, love, devotion, loss, sadness, loneliness... I just love feeling stuff :P

It's okay. I'm with you. The GIFT seems like one of those songs where I would usually cut it off after 1 minute lol but something about that song develops well and draws me in so that I want to finish it, and I'm not worn out by the end. I think it's beautiful.

Nah, fam.

I love the music genre of Hikki's Movin' On Without You and the arrangement. She should of had more of that and Paint it Black on First Love and it wouldn't be her worst album for me. I just always have loved that song.

I do love ayu's version a lot though and am glad she picked that song. But it could have been even more without a generic RedOne team arrangement lol.

On that note, the Many Classic Moments cover could also have been so much more for the same reason.

Such a shame because those are two of my favorite songs from the respective artists. I'm still happy that she covered them.

I didn't like Walk at first. But lyrix is so amazing and her performance at CDL was really touching. So now that's one of my most favorite songs from this album

xLuna&1LOVE 27th July 2018 09:59 AM

I only like WARNING, Last minute and Out of Control from A ONE.
The album disappears in nothingness for me. It's a bit too much the same for me.
Except for NO FUTURE and The Show Must Go On of course, but I can't stand both songs. So much shrieking and yelling in both. God, please no.

rainbow_smile 27th July 2018 11:24 AM

I'm sorry but thats kinda of a lackluster comparison. MOWY is Utadas second single from 1999. She would probably do it different if she was 15 years+ into her career at that point too.

I actually think both a really different songs, and therefore I like them both. Actually, I do think Utada did a fabulous job with picking artist for her tribute album and the producer did an even better job to bring them all together. I personally prefer Hikkis because of the overall soundscape and feeling tho.

KittyKathy 27th July 2018 01:57 PM

I prefer Ayu's version.

summerain 27th July 2018 03:14 PM

I think Walk is one of her most beautiful songs. I like how it progresses and we don't know exactly how the melody will turn out.

P.S.: I was listening to We are the QUEENS again after a while. I must admit this song may work a lot live, it's very energetic. What bothers me the most is this epic-sounding instrumental that sometimes seems off. It's like they pick some upbeat song from A ONE and glued some elements of Game of Thrones OST with Super Bonder.

KittyKathy 27th July 2018 03:54 PM

I really like WATQ. I hope they will cut the beginning of the song. It's completely unnecessary.

love in music 27th July 2018 05:14 PM

I was listening to We are the queens again too.
I love every second of it. I love the arrangement, her voice, and the lyrics especially. It's going to be difficult for any of the other songs on the new "album" to top it for me, but we'll see.

hud 27th July 2018 05:43 PM

Ayu's version of MOWY is the superior version.

mizuki-7 27th July 2018 08:08 PM

WATQ fitted well for the game I quite like it but as the same time I think it don’t have a lot of replay value but that’s just me.

Concerning MOWY I like both! I like this kind of old R&b from Utada but I lust admit that Ayu gave to te song a second life.

Party_King 27th July 2018 08:43 PM

A ONE is sooo bland for me as a whole...
There're just a few songs I really enjoy:
WARNING, NO FUTURE, Zutto..., TSMGO and Mowy
The rest is boring and should burn in hell
Especially THE Gift and that horrible Tell all remake!

For TROUBLE:
I looove WATQ and I just can't wait for the new rock track from her IG teaser

Andrenekoi 27th July 2018 09:04 PM

Walk is easily one of my favorite Ayu songs

I think many fans love Far away and too late, but we don't talk about it a lot. Far away has such a beautiful atmosphere. I remember bringing up And then at some point because I love it, and many other fans agreed. We just don't usually talk about it.

I will say though, I've never seen love towards FRIEND II on ASFXX. I really love that song. It's one of my favs from ayu and I think it's so beautiful. I know when I was first around the forum I would see fans casually mention that ASFXX wasn't very listenable because of her voice. But I never minded it.

crossroad really grew on me within the last two years. Like I liked it then plenty. But now it's a fav. And I love its dated sound lol.

BlackSilence 28th July 2018 08:47 AM

Secret, No more words, Sweet scar, You are the only one, Daybreak, Curtain Call - to name a few that are underrated from what i see around here.

Shape of Love is beautiful, too. the intro with the guitar played softly, then her voice sounding very soft ...its one of the songs with the best atmosphere.
