She looks so cute!

Sorry for the off topic question but: I remember I used to have a performance she did for Koi no Tsubomi and BUT in some TV show but can't find it anywhere (even jpopsuki). Was this real? Or am I crazy? lol

Weekly mu-mo chart is out and the puff shirt is dominating that as well!

So interesting that she sells merchandise so well.
And her fans apparently love oversize style as well as the big sizes sell better.
That's not a good outlook for me to get size S again for the next one. :cry :laugh

Ayu_Love 6th July 2020 12:42 PM

^I need to get one of those Puff shirts for myself too, I'm glad they're selling so well!

I was also looking at the Rechoku charts and saw that Kuu's BEST ~Third Universe~ album is at #30 right now!

OMG! Yesss! Now I just need to find where to watch it lol

Gustavopc 6th July 2020 04:39 PM

This has been out for a while but I hadn't seen it before nor recalling it being posted, so here it is. Kuu made a comment on AI's 20th anniversary and it's on her YT.

There are a lot more of those comments from other artists on her website, so cool to see many of those names there.

Plus, AI is releasing a mini album "IT'S ALL ME – Vol.1" , wonder if her collab with Kuu will pop up on a future Vol. 2 or 3 of these.

kaled kalil 6th July 2020 06:11 PM

@pedronekoi I'll upload the live on Google Drive for you, just a sec.

Here it is: https://drive.google.com/file/d/17u3...ew?usp=sharing

She was sick and had no idea what the lyrics for BUT was for the second part. lol

Gossip Candy's PVs are available:

The good ol' times. It has been 10 years already, geez.

KarenPang 6th July 2020 06:19 PM

^ still 1 of my favourite Kuu singles from her after all these years

I don't usually buy Kuu's singles but Gossip Candy was 1 of the rare few I made exception for

That and also 3 SPLASH among others

They've just announced the first round of artists for Ongaku no Hi this year and AI is one of them. They're even having a special for Story - would be awesome if Kuu would be announced in the 2nd round and they sing the song together on TV!

-------------------

puff PV had a small jump in views, now reached 100k in 2 days, a plus of about 40k.
Guess Music Fair helped?

ExodusUK 6th July 2020 07:40 PM

Is Puff doing well on the digital charts? I think Kuu's core fanbase prefer the physical singles.

hud 7th July 2020 02:42 AM

I don't care what anyone says - Inside & Outside Fishbowl both aged like fine wine. so glad to watch their PVs in HD on youtube!

Katsuyuki012 7th July 2020 02:51 AM

^I honestly love them. When I first started listening to Kuu, I had no idea what to expect with these titles.... but they are awesome!

Gustavopc 7th July 2020 03:20 PM

I always loved both, hence my tumblr url at that time lol (miss those golden days from tumblr) They have something unique about them, from the title to the sound. A pity she never performed neither of them again.

3 SPLASH time

Lick me ♥

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0X2cBWq0lA

Hashire!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpWfUeWfVcY

:love

11 years old to 3 SPLASH , damn

Gustavopc 7th July 2020 05:53 PM

Hashire! is such a fun song and I love the music video so much, she was having such a great time while shooting it. And Lick me has grown on me over the years, I got a bit tired of it back then cause she performed the hell out of it at TV and festivals, but it's a high-energy song with a cute vibe, it's really great to listen to it on sunny days. And ECSTASY of course is a banger. Truly a flawless single, even the remixed tracks are great.

minkAYuko 7th July 2020 06:04 PM

^ I feel the same!.

I've never been one of ku's greatest fans I started to follower later in her career (UNIVERSE, DejaVu era) but knew of her around her cutie honey era. I would get into this cringy battles defending ayu over her xD. But Anyway what I'm saying is that I'm enjoying watching all of these videos either for the very first time or with new eyes and new ears if you know what I mean.

Hashire is one of those videos that I never finished to watch and I wasn't fond of ku's cutesie's songs.

Corvina 7th July 2020 06:26 PM

3 SPLASH always was and still is my favourite summer single.
走れ! and ECSTASY are perfect songs for me and Lick me is catchy, too.
Not too mention pretty perfect PVs as well til this date.
BUT e.g. is a song and a PV I can't really dig anymore unless she's singing it live.

Kuu has another performance scheduled on Abema TV.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/6...924/ctGrtD.png

It's going to be a remote performance in a special stay-at-home programme, airing June 10, 9-11 pm JST.

jiarongisme 7th July 2020 06:37 PM

I really miss when Kuu did concept summer singles. Of course my favourite will always be 4 hot wave but she literally does not have a single bad summer single imo. They're all amazing.

Marurosu 8th July 2020 12:53 AM

Kuu had amazing summer singles!
4 hot wave
FREAKY
3 splash
Gossip Candy

Was Moon a summer single? I don't remember what was the summer single for TRICK, maybe Taboo?

jiarongisme 8th July 2020 03:39 AM

MOON was the summer single of that year! But it was also considered a comeback single after her scandal. That said, we've got the masterpiece that is Once Again.

kaled kalil 8th July 2020 05:21 AM

My least favorite is HOTEL and the next in the line is Summer Trip.

Both HOTEL and MONEY IN MY BAG are not my favorites, and TURN AROUND is good but clearly a b-side.

For Summer Trip the leak of both PVs before the single was even announced kinda hurt my excitement. Also, the best song from the single, IS THIS TRAP, didn't had a video. I guess at some point SO FEVER was part of the single as well, the style of the cover is very similar to the PV.

Even tho MOON was the summer single of 2008 I didn't connect enough with the summer part of it, I guess because both PVs are very "dark" and not summery at all.

But it is hard to choose a favorite: 4 hot wave, FREAKY, 3 SPLASH, Gossip Candy and 4 TIMES are all good. I also love Chase and COME WITH ME, both summer singles that aren't part of her maxi summer singles line-up.

Corvina 8th July 2020 10:30 AM

Finally an update about the 20th Anniversary Tour!
It's officially called KODA KUMI 20th ANNIVERSARY TOUR 2020 - MY NAME IS... - .

It's going to be held as scheduled, but with COVID measurements in place and doing two performances on the same day for some of the venues (note: infos about the 2nd Osaka and the Tokyo performances are released later).
Means they gonna use just half of the capacity of each venue, leaving a seat free between, front and back of each person. Entrance and exit will be done with time restrictions, tickets will only be digital and they gonna measure temperature of everyone attending (including staff) with a non-contact device. Wearing masks is mandatory and without one you won't be able to enter the venue.
Other measurements like disinfection, using vinyl curtains s.o. and regular staff annoucements will be done, too.

They ask everyone to buy goods and CDs/DVDs online.
If they decide to open the booths a the venue, they ask everyone to keep distance and listen to the announcement of the staff.
Same with the gift boxes for Kuu and her dancers - if they set them up they will make an announcement.

First FC ticket round is starting July 10 an drunning till July 20.
Ticket price is 9,300 Yen.
Koda Gumi tickets will include 20th anniversary good(s).

Official trailer was uploaded as well:

Sounds like a new song at the beginning and the end.

minkAYuko 8th July 2020 10:58 AM

Great news! Hopefully everything will be better by then.

The new song sound really good !

ilovekodaa 8th July 2020 11:20 AM

IM CRYINGGGGGG OMGGGGGG

Toniayu123 8th July 2020 11:21 AM

3 splash was my obsession in summer 2009. What a jam ecstasy is.

Guys, the tour is going to happen after all it seems! The tittle is my name is... some measurements for safety are going to be necessary tho also, did she premiered a new song preview? It sounds dope!

Edit: k, I’m late lol Excited for this!!!

Corvina 8th July 2020 11:48 AM

Too much info and excitement, forgot to post the logo:

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/6...922/w05fj1.png

Wonder what they will do with the 2nd Osaka and the Tokyo dates, if we get two performances a day as well.
Info for that on a later date.

Marurosu 8th July 2020 12:04 PM

I was wondering the distance between people could also mean no picking up a fan for sexy touching/ballad holding hands performance this time...

chocopockymaster 8th July 2020 12:56 PM

Sigh.

Most probably, but maybe they do something different on stage with them with some distance between each other, who knows.

Yeah, this probably won't happen anymore :(

On one side, I'm excited for the tour, wonder how its name's concept will be worked and what she wants to perform. On the other hand, I'm sad cause I can't be sure if I'll be able to attend anymore. Brazil is still not having a decreasing curve and who knows when I'll be able to fly overseas. I could not even have a job in the close future...

Just these days, when I asked abou taiwan live 2013, I was wondering if maybe the long space in between dates wasn't meant for overseas dates, but if that was a plan they probably set it aside. A pity all this is happening, but I'm sure Kumi's performance will be as great as always.

Oh, btw, the fc magazine is up on Global Koda Gumi. Love how there's a part 1 of the shooting where she's clean and her hair all pretty, and then there's the "fighter" part. Girl predicted our expectations for 2020 vs. the reality :laugh

kaled kalil 8th July 2020 02:08 PM

Ngl I'm not too happy it. Also, performing twice the same day during winter doesn't seem like a good idea vocally.

Besides that, the last song from the teaser sounds nice. :)

Corvina 8th July 2020 02:20 PM

Kuu's message about the tour:

Quote:

The tour title is "KODA KUMI 20th ANNIVERSARY TOUR 2020 -MY NAME IS...-"

It has been 20 years since my debut.

Unafraid of change, I moved forward one step at a time
and constantly challenged myself into doing new things.

Even in the worst times, I will never give up and will continue to strongly go up on stage as Koda Kumi.

For all of those that I love

My name is... Koda Kumi

And the quote on the end of the trailer for the tour, which she is also singing in the song (probably going to be the theme and theme song for the tour) says:
知らないと言われてより嫌われていたい。
Which basically translates as " I wanna be hated by the ones saying I don't know".

I feel it’s more like:

I’d rather be hated by someone than have them say they don’t know me.

Gustavopc 8th July 2020 03:49 PM

I like these lyrics (?), sound like a bold statement. Also, I think she's singing about a crown in the teaser? And then there's the lion, which is already deemed as a king, and nonetheless he's wearing a crown. I think battling, crown, throne, all these elements are on the theme for the tour. Don't know how "my name is" will fit this tho :P Hope there are some cool goodies with this lion and/or crown related stuff.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if she meant herself with not knowing without much context, but this fits better, thanks. :)

Katsuyuki012 8th July 2020 04:50 PM

I'm not sure if that's really a good plan, it seems like there are more negative sides to it rather than positive ones. But oh well.

KuuXAyu-fan 8th July 2020 04:55 PM

I'm not so sure what the situation with COVID is in Japan. I feel like they should've postponed the tour to 2021. Hope everything ends up fine...

KarenPang 8th July 2020 05:13 PM

Even though it's great that Kuu's 20th anniversary Arena tour will proceed on as planned , I also have concerns

Granted the concert venues will be used at 1/2 capacity but that's still many people involved especially on the 3 concert dates Kuu will perform twice on the same day

Not only that for foreigners who want to go Japan , Japan still has the Travel Ban being enforced in place

https://www.japan.travel/en/coronavirus/

I don't know if things will change for the better or worst by Sept but some people are behaving as though COVID-19 is over where in reality a vaccine has not been created , yet

lovethatkuu&ayu 8th July 2020 05:21 PM

I'm both excited and a bit nervous about this. Shimatani held her first tour date a few days ago, and everything seemed to go well. Granted, that her live was in a tiny venue and not an arena. With guidelines in place, I hope things go smoothly. I wouldn't be surprised if avex will try and use Kumi and her tour as a guinea pig before the AAA dome shows to test some things. .

The fans on social media seem to be mostly positive. I'd say around 30% seem unsure or a definite no, but aren't hostile either.

My favorite summer singles are Freaky, MOON, and Gossip Candy. MOON stands out because I really appreciate the dark and introspective atmosphere about it. Not every summer is joyful. Sometimes things don't work out as planned and there's a time of reflection. It's for that reason why I enjoy the somber tone in MOON.

The logo reminds me of Insane as she uses the same symbol in the lyrics.

Gustavopc 8th July 2020 10:33 PM

omg you're right! I had forgotten she talked about being a lion in the song, just remembered the crown verses. She must be expanding the song's idea, and now I wouldn't be surprised if she performs it on the tour lol

And this afternoon I was thinking of the shooting having a "dirty" side and a "clean" one... I'm thinking that we may get a best focused on cute songs and ballads vs. another one for her upbeat fierce tracks lol

Corvina 9th July 2020 09:41 AM

I kind of expect her to sing Insane as well. :laugh
The new song might be a kind of coupling song for it (like 好き, 好きで, 好きで and 好きでして).
And with the goods I just hope not everything is in black and this pale pink, hope for other pastels and grey, too.

Now with the digital version of the FC magazine we also have the results of the last part of the 20th anni song poll!
From Go To The Top single till today (or Bon Voyage album era till today).
Overall quite a lot of more recent songs charted!
I'm so happy about SHUTOUT!

Who in the hell voted for Bridget song in "music video you like"??? ʕಠ_ಠʔ

Gustavopc 9th July 2020 02:26 PM

^ Probably the same fan who voted for it on that best song poll I did on twitter :laugh

I'm actually not surprised with the results, besides Color the Cover ranking low in the best covers. Miss Nina Mikagawa snapped on that, kinda sad people vote for AND/DNA over that one cause I always had a hope they'd collab again someday but seems like her fanbase didn't care about it much.

Kimi omoi really was a hit among her fans, wasnt it? A pity she never released its PV aside from that special FEVER DVD. Also funny how all three songs on the top for the recommendation poll aren't upbeat songs.

kaled kalil 9th July 2020 02:46 PM

The re(MIX) cover over Color The Cover is homophobic. For the PVs, BRIDGET SONG over SHOW ME YOUR HOLLA and Dreaming Now? That's some bad taste over there.

I would never recommend CHANCES ALL to someone who not knows Kumi, ever.

On a better note it's interesting to see a lot of re(CORD) songs, I wonder if people really enjoyed or they were in the moment since it was the newest release.

Gustavopc 9th July 2020 03:39 PM

This poll made me want to update the most viewed PVs list on YT, last one I did was June 10th. Videos under 100k are inside the spoiler box. With the last videos, there are noe exactly 100 PVs on her channel, with a bit under 11.5 million views if you add them all up.

Poor introduction for kingdom is still not over 10k streams but I get it lol

When it comes to videos who got the most views in this month, top 10 is:

1. Megumi no hito +327k
2. Cutie Honey +162k
3. Ai no uta (album version) +88k
4. Crazy 4 U +84k
5. Someday +81k
6. BE MY BABY +63k
7. you +47k
8. BUT +42k
9. It's all Love! +36k
10. Love Me Back +35k

Megumi no hito really IS popular lol I thought that either you or Crazy 4 U would be the first PV to cross 1mi but seems like Megumi no hito is the one to keep an eye on. Also, really glad Crazy 4 U is still getting a lot of streams, it should surpass you in a few days and for a while will be her most streamed music video.

Toniayu123 9th July 2020 04:47 PM

Wtf are those results? Lol at least haircut is on the top 3 PVs

Corvina 9th July 2020 08:27 PM

Kuu's core fanbase has just as a peculiar taste and individual character as she has. :laugh
Actually thinking back it's kind of a small miracle she ever got as big as she was in a country like Japan.

Pink Spider PV IS popular, so it looks it's just this particular shoot.
So I wouldn't rule another collaboration out completely.

Well, I voted for SHOW ME YOUR HOLLA and you see how much worth that was. :rofl
But I also made sure to mention HAIRCUT in my comment for that question, so I'm happy it made the top 3.

Marurosu 10th July 2020 02:09 AM

IMO HAIRCUT is her last amazing PV, although re(CORD) has good ones...

Gustavopc 10th July 2020 02:50 AM

Since when does Kumi has a mole/beauty mark near her right eye?
https://twitter.com/DoingKoda/status...446624256?s=19
It's very small and I thought it was done for this shooting but I also noticed it on the DNA cover. Did she use to hide it?

minkAYuko 10th July 2020 03:38 AM

it comes with age u_u :P

kaled kalil 10th July 2020 04:21 AM

Also, Dance in The Rain should be in the top 10 PVs for sure.

@Gustavo: She always had, you can see "all" her beauty marks in Chase's cover, they didn't bother removing them, from arms, to hand, to chest, to face, to neck, etc.

The only one that seems to be "growing back", being more noticeable, or just the scar showing more than the usual is the one from her upper lip, that she had before her debut. For live performances you can always see that it's covered with make-up, but from her own footage is always gone.

If anyone wants: UHQ promo pic for MY NAME IS...

Diva_br 10th July 2020 04:26 AM

Well... I remember some photo of hers when she was pregnant (from Koda Gumi blog, i think?) with freeckles (but maybe are you know, pregnancy marks) and then another with one mole in her nose, she said it was her "favorite" but always get cover with make up; but don't trust me so much xd

I will post the photo if i find it. It was a close up of her nose with her finger point it the mole/freckle

Gustavopc 10th July 2020 02:08 PM

Oh my I feel like a such bad fan for not noticing that mark :laugh :laugh I looked at her insta later and could spot it in some pics but very few, I guess in the end it's easier to hide it with makeup since it's so small. And filters probably end up blurying it out as well.

On another note, as expected, a How To Dance video has just been uploaded for puff!

It's going to be a remote performance in a special stay-at-home programme, airing June 10, 9-11 pm JST.

Is she really performing? Because she's there for the comedy bit, reacting to the performers.

I don't know how much I can take of it, it's not that fun watching comedy in a foreign language I can barely understand. haha And to help it is 2 hours long. :tired

---

Yeah, I stopped watching. One hour was enough for me. haha

minkAYuko 12th July 2020 08:01 AM

Guys ‘Whatchu Waitin' On?‘ should be coming by the 25th right ? I love that MV. I bet she’ll upload a clip with her son watching the MV since he was in her belly at that time ^^

ayu_ready? 12th July 2020 01:00 PM

the PV for Puff is cute, but I'm crying over how little budget she seems to have the last 2 years. makes me nostalgic about old concerts and albums.

kaled kalil 12th July 2020 07:29 PM

^ What do you expect for a made at home PV? It's not a matter of budget, and to be quite honest and her PVs where never about the budget anyway.

For the past two years she had LIT, PARTY, HAIRCUT, Livin' La Vida Loca, etc. which all looked pretty good.

On another note, I do miss her old Arena Tours. I was watching the TRICK tour the other night and I do miss the big stage. Her last arena concert that I really enjoyed was JAPONESQUE, both The Artist and WOML didn't had the same sparkle, maybe because both stages were pretty much a big screen and that's it.

--

I'm surprised that her fans haven't gather around to do a bunch of clips with people singing and dancing as the music video for puff. Kim Petras did this for Malibu and it is so stupid that it's fun. haha I guess we're all camera shy. I would do it tho.

Gustavopc 13th July 2020 09:28 PM

I think Japanese fans are more reserved in general and the Western ones are too few lol It would be so cool if fans all over the world would do that and show her.

minkAYuko 14th July 2020 10:16 AM

Iw as watching Crystal Kay's "Forever" PV and I noticed the place looked familiar. it's where Koda Kumi filmed the PV for HOTEL.

(it's probably common knowledge but maybe I missed it or forgot about it).

I need a collab between these powerful women!

kaled kalil 14th July 2020 02:06 PM

It would be nice a collaboration for sure.

Yesterday I was thinking about the squash scene of Like It, I wish we could see the footage, that look was really cool with the visor.

I guess some of the goodies for the new tour are out, got these from twitter:

Gustavopc 14th July 2020 04:03 PM

I'd looooooove Kuu + CKay, they could serve a 2 a-sided single with a dance song + a soft ballad, both styles would fit them so well.

The jacket is okay, nothing outstanding but it's a nice design. Just misread it as "queen of line" but that may be cause of the small picture lol

This is the goodie that's coming with the FC ticket for the tour.
The 2nd one - they decided to change the colour from purple to light yellow.
They revealed with it tho that we'll get more goodies fitting to this jacket.

Corvina 17th July 2020 08:40 AM

Kuu now has over 500k monthly listeners on Spotify!
And puff PV is around 300k views already, keeping its pace.
k, PV is at 320k right now and again at 520k and those are on avex' youtube with far more reach (5 million+ followers).

The FC ticket round is not open for overseas fans.
Probably going to be the same with the December dates later unless the situation is going to get a lot better worldwide.
Another pre-sale round over her official site starts end of the month btw.

kaled kalil 17th July 2020 01:30 PM

Thanks for the info about the goodies, Corvina!

puff ~Dance ver~ is out:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ks0TeY83YU

Diva_br 17th July 2020 04:27 PM

I was thinking about a tribute album for Kuu, but I only think in three singers lol

Miliyah Kato: TABOO (because she's a LGTB ally) / Aenaku Naru Kurai Nara

JASMINE: No Man's Land

AI: Ningyo Hime (lol I don't now why, maybe because her version of "Tsumi to Batsu") / Ai no Uta

Any thoughts? What would be your proposed artists and songs?

KarenPang 17th July 2020 04:59 PM

^ I could see EXILE or just ATSUSHI cover any Kuu ballads cos EXILE do have some really great ballads in their discography

LiSA would also be a good fit to cover Kuu's material in a tribute album if it ever materialised

Gustavopc 17th July 2020 05:35 PM

I would love to see AI, Mika Nakashima, CKay, and why not for a twist Hiromi Go? :P I could also see misono hoping onto this.

I'm not sure if I like how they made this dance ver for puff, why is it showing her dying (?) her hair? lol And while the original video didn't look cheap to me, I hate the fonts and filters they used for this one, felt like a downgrade... but if it helps her get more views and likes I'm not mad

kaled kalil 18th July 2020 04:54 AM

^ The effects are very tacky, for sure. haha If the song had kinda of a 80s style it would fit better, but it's not the case.

I'm not a huge fan of tribute albums, but I guess it could be something like this (some names already did covers of her, so they could re-use it)

LiSA
Aoi Shouta
Nakamori Akina (did Ai no Uta)
SOLIDEMO (did Suki de, Suki de, Suki de)
Dream Ami (did Koi no Tsubomi)
BENI
lol
Chara
Momoiro Clover Z
FAKY

These are not names I would particularly want to do covers of her songs, but possible choices that could happen. I'd rather another cover album from her, to be honest.

Not sure if people care about this but anyway. I'm planning on upscaling some of her DVD only concerts, using the AI upscale method. It takes a quite a long time, so I might not even finish a whole concert at all, but anyway, just letting people know that this is possible. This is the result for AND Tour:

Since I don't have her FC only albums, I'm still trying to get the .VOB from the past concerts (a-nation premium and AND Tour), let's see if I can get my hands on 'em.

KarenPang 18th July 2020 08:09 AM

My sister reminded me about this earlier on

So unreal

Still an amazing concert my sister & I attended back then :heart

Toshinori Yonekura also did a cover of "Suki de, Suki de, Suki de" in 2015 and I discovered it recently - it's so nice! would love to hear him do another take on one of her ballads.

Diva_br 19th July 2020 05:11 AM

Yup, a tribute album isn't possible and I know, but is fun think about it, well... at least until we have more information about the anniversary projects.

I liked their additions, guys! Specially EXILE, misono, Crystal and FAKY :heart

thinkingoutloud89 19th July 2020 03:03 PM

^why isn't it possible? There are other artist that got one, like YUI or Utada, while still being very much active.

Diva_br 19th July 2020 04:57 PM

^I think is just because I don't know if she's one of the singers that always have mentions when they ask to another singers "Who is your favorite?", i don't know if have sense at all lol

I mean, I don't know if other artists have their eyes in her and in what she does... (Ayumi, i think...?)

You said Utada, but yes, I think everyone have memories with her songs (specially with First Love), and that was something that almost everyone in the tribute mentioned (Miliyah said something like "In my teenage years she was always with me") and I don't know if that applies to Kuu.

LiSA is her fan, for example, and sure she has a lot of good Memories and has her eyes and what she does and goes to her shows, FAKY too. But I don't know about others singers.

For me, Koda Kumi is THE QUEEN, but I want to know if other big artists follow her and think "I would like to record this song that brings me so many happy feelings and share it with my fans!" And then make a cover/tribute album with other 12/13 singers that feel the same.

I hope my comment have sense because I don't speak english so well and I don't want to be misunderstood.

.-.

KarenPang 19th July 2020 05:15 PM

Kuu can also choose to self cover & re-record some of her old songs , not necessary a tribute album where other artistes covers her material

YUI did that years ago with her SHE LOVES YOU tribute album but she only re-recorded CHE.R.RY

Corvina 19th July 2020 05:26 PM

I don't think it would be a problem for Kuu having one.
Guess it's more of a question how such tribute albums come to life.
And if the owner of the songs/the artist allows it.

kaled kalil 19th July 2020 05:31 PM

I understand what you're saying. It's like questioning if she had enough impact in the industry, and if you see some other artists which would say that Kumi inspired them to be singers or artists in general.

Usually those albums are for artist who caused an impact, you have Seiko Matsuda, Utada Hikaru, TRF, globe, Shiina Ringo, hide, DREAMS COME TRUE, Hibari Misora, etc. At the same point not having one doesn't mean that you didn't impact, Ayumi, Namie, Akina Nakamori, B'z, Hiromi Go, to name a few doesn't have a tribute album.

One of the reasons these albums are made is that you, as a fan of a particular singer, can give a chance to somebody else's discography. For example: I don't know DCT discography, but because Kumi did IT'S SO DELICIOUS it made me want to listen to the whole album and the original versions as well, so a win-win situation.

By the fact that some singers already did cover of her songs, even Akina which Kumi loves her, I believe a tribute album could happen at some point. It also means that her discography isn't that "closed", I believe some singers don't even allow other singers to cover them songs (like GOLDFINGER'99, Kumi is the only singer that Hiromi go allowed to cover the song).

As for artist that would say that Kumi inspired them, you have LiSA, Aoi Shouta, Minzy from 2NE1, some girls from FAKY. This is quite hard to know if you don't connect with the current acts.

thinkingoutloud89 20th July 2020 09:39 AM

^Namie probably just did not allow her songs to be used tho. SWEET 19 BLUES is one of the most covered songs alongside CAN YOU CELEBRATE which remains the highest selling female solo single.

A tribute album is in most cases a label stunt and nothing more. So if avex does not want to, it will probably not happen.

Gustavopc 20th July 2020 03:08 PM

Well Kumi has done a lot of covers throughout her career in a very successful way imo. She knows how to honor the original songs while adding her mark to them, like Cutie honey, Ima sugu hoshii, BE MY BABY and Megumi no hito. And she knows those songs also helped her shape her background and identity, which to me is shown for example when she performed a cover medley on W FACE tour during the "inside" block. So I guess she would love to see a tribute album cause she sees covers in such a special way. If she wants to have one, I doubt avex would say no, I mean avex is all out trying that revival project of their so this would even come in handy.
On the other hand I think it's more likely for Kuu to cover herself. Would love to see both things happening tbh, the more the better, but who knows.

EXILE ATSUSHI & Koda Kumi's collaboration song to be released digitally on July 28

Quote:

EXILE ATSUSHI and Koda Kumi's collaboration song "Osaka Tokyo" will be released digitally on July 28.

"Osaka Tokyo" will also be included in ATSUSHI's fourth solo album "40 ~forty~" to drop on November 4. It's described as an energetic dance number about the feelings of a man and woman as their feelings get stronger and they are unable to see each other.

Last November, the two co-starred for the first time in 13 years at ATSUSHI's solo live 'EXILE ATSUSHI SPECIAL NIGHT IN OKINAWA' and performed this song for the first time.
