More than high budget I'd say it seems it could have a strong concept and good execution. That does much more than a high or low budget.

Fairyland, JEWEL, GREEN and Virgin Road are pretty high in the list of most expensive music videos in history.

But again as some have pointed out you can have pretty high budget but with weak/lazy concept won't make a difference, which it's the problem in Ayu's case (imo) for me the last PVs with a strong concept were Why and BRILLANTE from Five and a couple from Love Again.

She probably had good enough budget for other recent works but the creative team was the weak one, Last Minute PV is so simple and probably didn't need big budget but it works perfectly and it's pretty memorable in it's simplicity. Winter Diary probably had a big budget (overseas filming, different costumes, locations, extras, fire guns and such) but in the end it was a pretty messy and forgettable, honestly never read someone praising that PV lol

23rd Monster and Haru yo Koi felt fresh somehow because we got a clear concept again, and with this preview now, we might be on the right tracks for good and memorable PVs again! just my personal opinion tho

I miss PVs with dark twist like Rainbow, Is this LOVE, Ourselves, Ladies Night or Don't look back where last frame / last few seconds gives you chills or make you wander but at the same time I'm so hungry for new material that I'm just happy she's still active with sth other than concerts.

She got me spoiled with consecutive albums for more than 15 years, I appreciated it and never took it for granted but even with that, now, after 6 years with no full album I'm realizing how empty those six years felt, without that thrill of new album, PVs and promotion. I switched temporarily to Namie and Kumi and it helped but only now I feel how much I was missing new material from Ayu.

the high budget PVs from LOVE again are basically fighting in the hotel room.

I'll defend FLOWER. I think it was very expressive and I felt the rage she was channelling. I'm also super excited about the Nonfiction's video, it just looks so good. And if you look closely you can notice the shape of the human heart in the pink section. It's gonna be amazing.

If I wanted to watch the fights in California, I would stay in West Hollywood or Beverly Hills. Expensive fights are better.

As we are talking about high budget and well done pvs, I need to come here and mention Do it Again, that video was amazing, full of concept and you can feel that money was speeent! One of my favorites.

Are you talking about good PV?? Then I'm sorry but I NEED in my life some ballad pv simple but f*** awesome such as HEAVEN or ZUTTO. For me the first one is simple but incredible. The second one is BEAUTIFUL to watch. It doesn't have to be expensive to be EPIC! :P

EDIT: I also love Sweet Scar. It's just Ayu singing but telling a love story while moving around a house. Ah... great concept.

I'm coming here to defend FLOWER and (specially) Mad World PVs. I like them both a lot and despite they're low budget it's conceptually good and well-executed.

Loving the song. It sounds like an Ayu song, but also fresh for her which is so hard to do with her varied catalogue.

The song is not bad, better than the live version, the arrangement is nice. It sounds like it would fit perfectly on NEXT LEVEL album. I prefer her rock songs but, it is a good dance song for her.

I hate the PV previews but I am not expecting anything from her PV anymore. She is going for the Kpop style, maybe people who likes Kpop will like it, but i am not one of them.

The cover really reflects the song lol It's megh as I expected. It sounds very mediocre to me and forgettable, but it probably translates better live, cuz it's quite catchy. It's not my cup of tea. The MV previews...erm. I'm gonna barf from all that pink lol But i like the fact that they went for a monochromatic look, it's kinda cool. Still, there's a whole rainbow of colors and of course they went with one that's overused to death.

Sorry... I meant "Not Bad'' in my original message ahah... but forgot to type the ''not''. I do love warning a lot, I can see the ressemblance on the vocals. What i dislike is the generic EDM beat. It was a thing 10-15 years ago, now I grew tired of it. It sounds a bit Like ''Womanizer'' that I loved at the time but wouldn't listen to it anymore if it wasn't for the nostalgia feeling.

I'm really hoping that using a set instead of an actual hotel room means they are going to do something with it that they couldn't do to a normal hotel room. Maybe ayu will destroy the room, but I'm thinking about the white liquid from Because of You or the black liquid from MOON, except pink. :yes

To each their own, but i truly can't see how you can use the word 'horrible' to describe the cover. Ayumi is gorgeous and even if the cover doesn't sparkle or share what you would like to see... I don't see how anyone could look at that beautiful woman in the way she is presenting and think 'horrible'

I’m just grasping here but maybe what is meant by “horrible” is “off putting” and there is an element of the photograph not looking like the Ayu we are familiar with. Previously she had a very distinct look, it was both aggressive and cute. In this photo she looks more balanced and vanilla, which I think creates a sense of distance between those of us who are accustomed to seeing her face a certain way.

The cropping of the photo is weird and makes little sense, there's no composition there whatsoever, the text is just slapped on there as always, with zero thought about it; there's more hair than Ayu, and she's photoshopped to death too, which doesn't do her justice at all. So i think "horrible" is the right word lol I'll rephrase myself and say the song is not like the cover, it's just megh, but not horrible.

I also wouldn't hold my breath over something cool happening in the video. But i'm happy to be proven wrong.lol

I don't really like the cover either, mostly because of the photoshop looking bad, but not just in a usual making her look 10 years younger way, but in a more amateur way where I don't think they hired a decent photo editor for it. Like I am almost certain the cover is a mashup of 2 different photos of ayumi from the photo shoot. Her face literally looks copy and pasted on and not blended in well. I thought it was fanmade at first lol.

I bet any unedited photo from the photo shoot looks much better than the cover. Not sure what the photo editor was thinking.

I thought the point of the cover is to have people look and know it’s photoshopped heavily/crazy wig and thus criticize the “fiction” that people present themselves as online.

I don’t like the font though and they could have used a much better font to really drive home the fiction aspect.

What the hell did I just watch...

MV has the vibe of Sparkle, Song 4 U and SLT. I loooove the part where she steps forward and they do that v-formation march to the front of the room. I love when she participated in the choreography as well. The party room scenes seem a bit too dark in contrast with the bright pink but I love the outfits and when she holds the mask over her eyes towards the end.

Hikaru is a scene-stealer as usual.

The production (how this was filmed etc.) is so good. Haru Yo, Koi already was a big step in the right direction (and a gorgeous PV) and I'm happy to see how things have been progressing since 2020.

Would've loved to see more of that second look, though.

3:11-3:13 was probably the best part of the video. I'm okay with the video. At least it kind of connects to the song. I think it could have been executed in a way that made it more entertaining than it was though.

I’m getting pop princess Ayu which I haven’t seen in a long damn time! I hope she keeps it up with the album and future PVs. It’s not the most exciting video but the visuals are getting better!

Her PV have never been the 'it' factor in her success. I can maybe count 10 of them being actually good, and most of them is because they look and were pricy (Fairyland, Jewel) but even those, they are pretty basic.

I can't say I find this video good as, compared to the current market, it looks very amateur, but I can't say it is mediocre either, it is just, very forgettable. However, I care very little about videoclips.

At first it’s interesting how everybody seems bored at the end in contrast of the party going on in the rest, kinda a metaphor for what we see on and off screen daily
The rabbits being rotten inside, although they’re all shiny and pink at the outside, are a nice addition as well
And the choreography with the arm in the head, with a lyrics that asks what we exchange in order to succeed… well, it’s pretty straightforward :laugh

Rewatching here and there are some other observations (or just excess of imagination haha) :P

The scene at 1:40 is the continuation of the ending, and it’s interesting how they change completely when they perceive that they’re being observed, they were bored and yawning but then everything changes when someone looks at them.

And the sequence when ayu points towards the screen gains more power, like she’s pointing “baby, you do that too” and says you’re full of shit too btw haha

The snippet where the heart gets replaced by the rabbit (by the appearance) has its own meaning too. And I don’t think the sound of “no fiction” is a coincidence.
