The whole caving in thing probably symbolizes society's look down upon view on Ayu if she doesn't choose a future. She didn't choose one, as shown by running into the elevator. Perhaps she's thinking, "If I choose a future, then this is what's going to happen to me. I'm going to have no personality; society is going to look down upon me; I'm going to be murdered/raped."

I like that possibility.

I don't really think so. Ayu's PVs, even going back to the very begining have always been at least a little odd. I think Ayu just likes doing things that are different and that you have to think about after seeing them.

AznWizKidz 28th December 2005 08:11 AM

I love this PV and song! its fits with everything. i don't know why. it just works! ahah!

Mad_Cactuar 28th December 2005 08:12 AM

lol, Truehappiness got the play of words. xD

I like how Ayu keeps on going to the extreme. Hope her next PV will be more controversial. :D

makie_7 28th December 2005 09:40 AM

I like a lot the song after watching the pv 3 times! I'm addicted to it!
The lady that paints in black the people looks like the lady with the butterflyes..I don't know if anyone said it before...(i've been reading the post and havent seen it)

[AHS]MortalSex 28th December 2005 09:43 AM

Ayu´s cute but the PV is weird :P

kkarenn 28th December 2005 10:23 AM

I like the elephant toy alot. It's cute and her outfit.
But the part where the American was "sitting" on a girl freak me out. It's quite freaky. And the people marching. Scary.

Yes I agree. I remember WHATEVER and it's unsettling ending.

se7entheaven 28th December 2005 11:41 AM

Thank you!! I agree. I could talk about this PV for years. This is actually what I do at school with other media texts.:laugh

micster 28th December 2005 02:15 PM

i love this pv. really random but cool at the same time.

I havent tried examining it yet but after looking at the lyrics im sure i could get a good idea.

ImpactBreaker 28th December 2005 09:49 PM

Why are people saying it looks like she's being raped? She's not even fighting against it. Raping is a violent act, a scene such as that would be ayumi screaming and fighting against it but that's not what happwned, she seemed to actually be accepting that the guy was there with her geez. Plus there was nothing that "directky" suggested sex in that scene, other than both being on their bed. The guy looks creepy because that's how the girls feel after having their feelings hurt by their bf. Ayu actually seemed bored and angry at him despite how much wild and violent he would be like. She rather has a "I don't care for you attitude".

devilayu 28th December 2005 10:01 PM

Interesting PV. I haven't gathered my thoughts about it yet since I've only seen it once. However, I also don't see the rape connection. I forgot where I read it (must've been another one of these threads) but someone was connecting it to 1984 and "Equilibrium". Since I haven't read 1984, I couldn't tie a connection to it but I'll ask my sister to watch the PV. I do see where "Equilibrium" may fit in visually but not so much plot-wise.

On a superficial note, Ayumi looked really adorable in the hallway scene (even with the massive amount of glitter eyeshadow) but the outfit is so gaudy! It's something out of a cartoon. Nonetheless, very cute.

I really did get the feeling that the guy had just raped and/or killed her. Yes, rape is a violent act, but afterwords she would look exactly like she did - souless and lacking the will to do anything. And the way he hovers over her, the way that he looks and everything is very suggestive.

Also, just a little interesting thing to note - when she is raped in the movie Redies, afterwords she just lies on that bed not moving and a single tear slides down her face.

1984 and Equilibrium only have the "dominating, all-controlling government" thing going for them but that's it, if you wanted to stretch it you could link the Telescreens and the video broadcasts/drugs used to keep people in order but it's a far stretch.

Already many good interpretations have been tossed out with her future/career - doors thing etc etc, I noticed one person also noticed the stirrups. It was a young boy on the table (don't ask me why, I just imagine the older maid giving a young master a licking and there was nothing to suggest feminimity except for the hair which I'll touch in a moment) and it was a (I forget the term) table with stirrups for preganant women's exams/actual birth. This one may be stretching it but the maid is using her power/feminimity (maid = stereotypical female role) to push the young master into a submissive (female) position, long hair and such, getting satisfaction at using her feminimity in that manner. Actually that all sounded like a lot of rubbish, I should've slept more last night but feel free to pick it apart.

People have already gotten the white lady with her diferent faces and butterflies, however with the black lady she's using liquid latex to cover the mannequins with a sort of "new skin" to change them from their pure white to darkness, completely changing their appearance in a sort of 180 from what they previously were. Liquid latex has a large fetishist's market so it could be saying something about how some has felt her career has gone from the pure little girl to some kinky sexual temptress.

For the end part with the guy everyone seems to be screaming REYP but as I interpret it she's sitting in the dark room alone by herself with nothing but her "past" to haunt her, "the man" sneaking up on her, looking somewhat like a zombie, continually resurrecting himself to follow her and creep up when she's vulnerable and alone.

I was just trying to touch on a few points however it all came out really jumbled, I might take another stab at being coherent later.

ayu4ever78 28th December 2005 11:59 PM

omg i love it ! very odd but hay thats cool , i thinkits one of my fav's , her outfit with the blue boots rules :luv2 lol .

She doesn't look like a woman who lacks energy after a violent act because there simply are no signs of violence. Her hair is not all messed up, her clothes seems fine, there's no sweat in her, the bed is set and the objects are all in their place, it doesn't, honestly, look like someone who has just been a victim of violence and fought agaist it and now lacks energy.

It's just the way I see it. :) Like the whole rest of the video, the scene isn't explicit in its message and can be interpreted a number of ways. All those things that you mentioned don't need to be there to imply rape or murder. I see it as simply an abstract artistic expression of a man exerting power/force over a woman, be it rape, murder or what not.

ImpactBreaker 29th December 2005 12:14 AM

^interesting

romance 29th December 2005 12:36 AM

Ok, now my subjective interpretation...
Ayu walking with key through the corridor with her doggie - represents Ayu at the moment.
Locked doors - Ayu's unknown future
Notice, please, the other doors are unlocked, so it may mean (according to locked future) behind them there's something from the past. Ayu opens the doors and what does she see? Herself, but she's a watcher this time, so it's a chance for her to get the outside view for her career. It scares Ayu, that she looks like that for other people (I mean, as a dictator and so on). We can see she's terrified, she's running away, but then she meet present Ayu = herself, and understands she's noticed as a girl without personality (with no face).
The last scene = on the bed. I cannot understand it. But it reminds me all that scary horrors. I remember Ayu face, her 'empty' sight. Light -no light - light = Ayu's playing with person watching pv, and the way it is scares me. I dunno, I link it only with sentence "You cannot hide, there's no shelter". But I can't figure out why -.- Oh, crapy interpretationX_x

SunshineSlayer 29th December 2005 12:43 AM

Wow, so many good interpretations. Ayu should like write a book or something explaining the meaning of her videos. lol. That might take some of the fun out of it though. :)

Bazaa 29th December 2005 12:46 AM

I agree with romance's point of view.

And really, that scary guy is freaking me out, he reminds me of a stalker :headache

romance 29th December 2005 12:51 AM

For me most scary is Ayu's face at the end - there's no emotion!

Bazaa 29th December 2005 12:54 AM

Yeah, it looks like she's dead... maybe poisoned :x

norain 29th December 2005 01:57 AM

Maybe she's the work of a scientist, and has a faceless face because people put a face on her...

Weirdest PV on miss understood for sure

minkAYuko 29th December 2005 01:59 AM

No hitler.. Evita Perón

hhmmmm, I dont see a man at 1min 04sec.. I see a man at 52 seconds who is kinda creapy looking.. but doesnt exactly look like the same guy.. there is no man at 1min 04sec.. its Ayu dressed in the black outfit at the wall stuff..
but maybe that's just in the mtv recording of the Pv I have that it's at that time?? o.O;

bondingo 30th December 2005 05:19 AM

This PV is most definitely one of my favorites. I just get so disturbed every time that I watch it, but I like it still. It seemed to have a few things in common with the "ourselves" PV too: such as the clones that Ayu is dictating to (who look an awful lot like the kidnappers in that) and the whole twist at the end. A+ :D

naka88 30th December 2005 05:19 PM

ayu sets us thinking. Ayu made us brainstorm. I like this PV to the max. Cool.
I lurve the concept ofthis PV. Has anyone of you totof this PV as the different stage in a woman life time?
ayu with a toy in outlandish outfit = children/teenage time.
the maid part = the pain of growing up = scholling
Hitler part = career woman
Faceless = menopause period when woman starts to lose her appearances, breast sags etc
Crushed by elevtor = end of life
the freaking man part = ??? (maybe its there jus to scare you ppl but i wsnt scared cos i knew that will happen as in the ending part of "ourselves PV")

Sorry it lates in the night now in spre, maybe iwas jus dreaming ahah

Ani_C 30th December 2005 05:27 PM

i was chekin the screens for it lol :P ummm kinda weird XD but with the stuff ur all mentionin just...wow o_o :P

ayumi1121 30th December 2005 05:43 PM

my bf thinks it's her as a prostitute...getting raped/killed at the end...i don't really get how he came up wit that...

weird pv but def interesting
