Just after A BEST was released. My cousin burnt a cd of mp3s, and I hated Japanese music back then.. lol.. Anyway the mp3 cd also had a few video clips on it.. including one of Ayumi's Fly high. So after skipping the album... I must have watched Fly high a dozen times.. *shrugz*, it's not the best video but she was really cute in it.

Would have been around.. 15 at the time .. lol

^ I've attracted so many of my friends who hated Japanese musics just by letting them listen to ayu's song.. ;)

People seem to like Ayu's stuff like Memorial address~ :p That was one of my friend's favorite songs :]

She needs more of those kinds of songs.. rock ballads xD

year 1999.... was the year I first listened to her song. It's "Boys and Girls" which brought me into her world.

I believe it was in 2004 - when I first heard "Dearest" as the ending to InuYasha in America. ^_^

I inquired about Japanese music on j-fan, and found Ayu! I listening to a clip of fly high, couldn't get enough of the little clip, and was determined on finding the whole song. Her voice didn't really bother me then...i didn't even notice it, until others pointed it out....
i looked up Ayu on bearshare (like limewire) and about a million files turned up...my "downloading 24 hours a day" phase begins...

i've become fan of ayu since the year 2003.. until now..
so it's abou 3-4 years..

I became a fan of hers around last year. I'm so glad that I'm listening to her now. I was getting started listening to one of my favorite bands, Two-Mix. Then, I was chatting to someone about her and I was hooked since.

I first heard INSPIRE in the summer of 2005, and became a fan immediately after hearing that song. I slowly introduced myself to each of her albums from there. I wouldn't download any albums. Rather, I'd purchase them and wait for them to arrive until I listened to them. I remember that I purchased her MY STORY Tour on Yesasia in October of 2005 and was freaking out over when it would come because I was so excited to see her actually performing live.

I first discovered ayumi in like 2000 when i went to cousin's house and he was blasting SURREAL over and over again when i was like 8... stole / borrowed surreal off him because it was the coolest music i have ever listened to. (i was 8, come on)

few years later after i learnt how toillegal download, i started downloading her musics. first one was memorial address i think.

i enjoyed illegal download until sometimes April 2007. when the 2 abest 2came out. they were so awesome that mp3 just wasn't enough. so i bought them :D

and somehow when guilty was announced. i actually felt guilty illegal download. lol. so decided to collect her whole discography in CD (only the ones distributed by avex). so for the pass 3 to 4 months something arrives at my doorstep almost every 2days. still new to this ayu mania thing.

Somewhere around February/March of 2003~

I was looking for random anime music and stumbled upon evolution. From there I went on a search mode for more info on Ayu and ended up downloading lots of her songs. Then when I travelled to Montreal that summer, I found some DVDs in a small shop in the China Town over there. Since then it's just grown, even though during the year of 2007 I couldn't buy anything from her due to financial problems.

It was October 2006 for me. as I mentioned in other threads, I watched the PV for ourselves on youtube and fell in love with Ayu!


Then, I was so weird cos when Secret came out, I waited until like 2 months later before buying it! But ever since then, I'd definitely buy an Ayu album on the first few days of its release.

2005, when I heard 'Dearest' for the first time while watching Inuyasha with my friend. When I got home I watched the PV for 'M' and 'evolution' and I was simply amazed by her. :3

I remember that I went to a website that had various j-pop downloads...The ayu ones that were there (my first ayu songs) were end roll, evolution, surreal, A song for XX and Fly High....I was impressed by these songs, ESPECIALLY surreal..

later I found another j-pop rotation site that had ayu's we wish. and I immediently downloaded it and was blown away. Since then I was always looking for her music.

The first album I bought was memorial address....ahhh...I was so happy when I got it...I then bought all her other albums afterwards.

But I've been a fan since 2003 ^_^..so almost 6 years now. and I will remain one till the day I die.

I've heard her on and off since 04, when I was first getting into anime, and my friend introduced me to Inuyasha. I fell in love with no more words (lol Inuyasha), but I never actually took the time to look up who it was and find more music. In 05, once again I heard her in the jukebox on a forum I frequent(M and evolution), but still no more interest by those songs. Then sometime in in 06, I heard her again (Ladies Night), and again in the summer of 07(glitter/fated) but still didn't bother to look deeper into her.

Anyway, fast-forward to winter. The guy I fell for happens to love her, she's his favorite singer. As a Christmas gift for him, I downloaded all her albums, and sent them to him, and I started really listening to her then as well. The rest is history~ The first (2) album I bought were in February ((miss)understood and Secret) which arrived today XD

omg I am the same as you, I was in love with Boys and Girls and Evolution, they were the only two Japanese songs I actually knew the lyrics to without being a fan of the artist. I knew Ayu but I wasn't a fan of her cause I didn't listen to Asian music back then, which would be kinda obvious cause I wasn't that much exposed to the internet until grade 5 haha thank god for my bros obsession with watching her pvs back then. I thought of her again when i got my old iPod in 2005 only put evolution and Boys and girls on. And then (hahaha that could so be a pun) early 2006 her name came up when I was researching a textiles project o.O so I decided to download all of her music!! I guess I was destined to be a fan:P

March 2006 when I downloaded her (miss) understood and my face went from D: to :D and since then I've been a fan. I started buying her stuff in May though but since then I've been collecting most of her releases.

In october 2004, my first were 'Boys & Girls' and 'POWDER SNOW Acoustic Orchestra Version'. I red on the Internet that she's a great artist and tried to find a new artist after hikki and CoCo Lee.
Since then I'm an offical fan, but I started collection her stuff in 2006.

It was late 2003 to early 2004. A friend told me about Ayumi and Dir en Grey and made me check them both out. Listened to Hanabi, A Song for XX, Poker Face, Vogue and Moments.

Moments became my favourite song ever and I pretty much got myself into it from there. It will come full circle next year when I go to Japan for an Ayu concert :D

Beginning of Summer 05', a month before Fairyland. (The usual mouthful) I finally saw the first Inuyasha movie (I loved that show hahaha) and I heard No More Words, my friend said that he loved the song so when I heard it I understood why, it was incredible. So I remembered the singer's name, Ayumi Hamasaki and well... I heard evolution and I knew she was the one! :laugh
