I was so worried about Kumi's sales when I found out that MOON was being released in June. I thought she won't sell that well. I thought MOON won't even be a Top10 single, and then it was #2 and I was like "woot, go Kumi go~". :D And then what I was worried about happened with TABOO. So horrible. x_x

But TABOO is way much better single than MOON ever was, because MOON has That Ain't Cool on it and I really loathe that song. :D TABOO instead has no bad song on it so I don't understand why this single can't oversell MOON. :<

By the way, I have seen Kingdom concert. \o/ I loved every single performance on that. My favourities were Under, Cutie Honey, hands, anytime, Run For Your Life and that DANCE BATTLE medley on encore. :3 I loved this concert a lot. I think it was even better than Black Cherry concert. But still my personal favourite of these is second session tour. Man, I wish I was there... <3

taboo deserves way, way, way better sales. with that being said:

i was with a bunch of japanese high school students over the past weekend, and, to my surprise...many of them cringed when i said i liked kuu :-\ i was so surprised...i was only able to find a few students (out of 320) that liked kuu (granted i didnt talk to every student, lol) but it honestly surprised me. im not a HUGE kuu fan, but still, their reactions were very...well...i'll leave it to you imaginations o_x

they kind of look like woofin, with the classy outfits and red background... not that i'm complaining, both of them are great.

maybe her poor sales are a blessing in disguise.... maybe instead they'll be able to focus on quality of the music instead of quantity when they kept out pumping singles and other things knowing it'd sell. TABOO was a huge step up from MOON though, i hope that's the direction she keeps on going in.

That is so strange how quickly someone, who was the definition of popularity a few years ago, is suddenly so unliked... :(

I remember when Kumi was actually voted more popular among high school students than Ayu (not an official poll, but when I asked a few Japanese students myself, those were the results)

People just got sick of her! Shes alright at first but after seeing/hearing her over and over its just like ~_~ :rolleyes :no

Then how would you explain Ayu's staying power and influence for 10 years? Surely she's way more over promoted than Kuu throughout her career and even though her sales aren't what they were, she's still a force to be reckoned with...

I always thought Kuu and Ayu were on the same level as far as popularity... maybe her fall of popularity has arrived now just like Ayu's has a while ago...

i don't think just because someone asked one group of japanese high school students about kumi that it should be taken as solid proof kumi isn't popular anymore in japan rofl.

75k sold in two weeks for taboo isn't bad at all, yeah maybe bad considering how much she's sold in the past, but there are some artists on the charts who can't even sell 50k singles let alone albums in that time spam.

Kumi is very popular, but nowhere near Ayumi.

^I also think Kumi has a less stable type of fame? Like, taking Ayu´s case, she was popular, she is popular and she will always be popular (unless she does something very very very wrong, which I don´t think she will), but Kumi has kinda always struggled (specially at the beginning of her career) to get where she is, and she never was of the super beautiful and charming kind of celebrity. She is cute and sexy, sure, but I think her music and overall musical values are what make her popular. Even if you don´t like Ayu though, you´ll always like her image, because she is way more eyecandy than Kumi. And also, I´m not pretty sure but, maybe the homosexual theme of TABOO could be a turn-off? BUT was also an amazing song and it peaked at 2, look at what they have in common.

Didn't we already talk about this before? The homosexual theme is not the reason why the sales are "low". The excuses for TABOO's sales need to stop..just let it go :o

Also I think that releasing BEST ~BOUNCE & LOVERS~ the same day as BUT was a factor for the sluggish sales. Most people would rather buy a album over a single..even less people would have bought the album + single at the same time.

Bounce & Lovers had really bad sales as well. It was limited to 400,000 copies and it didnt even sell 300,000. I think the thing with B&Ls sales is that people just didnt want it. It was just Avex trying to milk as much money from Kumi as they could.

BUT was limited as well, it was a limited time single from March to May 2007. But I dont think that explains the low sales because even in that time they werent too graet.

do you know how many copies of BUT were pressed? 200k 300k?? cause you can still buy them at virtually any online store that sells Kuu music :shakehead

I think they made around 200,000 copies in those three months. Theres still a lot left so U can find them anywhere.

omg i really like the preview... it sounds a lot different than her recent ballads.
i like it more than moon crying and it's MUCH better than ai no uta... (so is everything else though)

Judging from the preview, I don't like Stay With Me (and don't attack me or say "OMG, but it's soooo beautiful!", it's just my personal opinion okay?).
