fyi, the KANJANI8 single was pushed back due to a member scandal, so i don't think "HEAVEN" was originally going to battle "Sukiyanen, Osaka/Mugendai/Oh!ENKA".

& i wouldn't take JE too lightly. they're the only people around nowadays that can easily pull a 300k+ opening week (KAT-TUN, Arashi, K8, etc.) even if SMAP & KinKi Kids aren't power sellers now, they really were back then.

Ehh... I think yes for KK, but not for SMAP. SMAP's singles are either hit or miss, with miss being dominant. They aren't constant sellers like KK, so I would not consider SMAP as one of them. And... it's really hard to say who could beat ayu at that moment. She did have constant sales during that point, but it's not like a very huge sales that can certainly getting no. 1 position. If someone (not very popular) has a really really good song and against ayu, I think she would be defeated (e.g., SCS again as an example).

I dun even think avex would dare putting ayu against any JE in nowadays. This applies to B'z and Mr. Children as well, as we have never seen them battling against any JE in recent years.

Are you referring to mini-skirts and pink colored clothes? She does sometimes, especially if she is performing her old songs. And yes, this is concert tours from 2007/2008. But I'd definitely say her image is more mature now than in the past! :P Ayu won't be like that I am sure, because her image from the start has been nothing like Seiko's imo.

Seiko might not sell a lot anymore, but her concerts are definitely still a success. For example she has 17 Xmas Dinner Show concerts this year (from 11/19 - 12/25) and CDL on 12/31.

It's not a surprise that she dropped a lot from the first day. It's usually like that. I think hard-core Ayu fans go buy on the first day and the normal fans or other people go buy it whenever they can. I'm confident that Days/GREEN can sell over 100,000 copies in the first week!

The drop was a lot bigger than I anticipated so I am a bit disappointed, but atleast it was still #1. Hopefully it won't plunge too much on Day 3.

Every release will be counted 6 days only for the first week only. After that it's all 7 days. MW was an exception because they wanted to release it on 8th April 2008 which was a Tuesday not Wednesday (:

Hmmn, so what I didn't wanna see occurs in the end. But it's not too bad. At least it doesn't drop below 12K. My guess is that tomorrow's index will be around 7000, with ~4000 on Fri. Then I think it will be back to at least 5000 - 7000 during Sat and Sun.

Overall Days/GREEN should sell around 120K on the first week (hopefully...). Please remember that MW had 140k on the first week because it had an extra day, plus avex did put so hard during Sat and Sun to win over SCS. So if the single sales is around 110 - 120K in the end, it's not too bad after all.

I doubt it. Consider people (e.g., me) don't like GREEN pretty much, they just treat GREEN as a B-side. This also applies to people who love GREEN but hate Days.

I rather say... if they have a real GREEN cover instead of the same pink roses ones, I think the sales would be a bit higher at least.

Something to take into account: overall singles and album sales are lower than they sued to be most likely because of illegal digital downloading. Its not just Ayu herself who sales have dropped, everyone has, and while it may be due to her just sticking with hardcore fans, illegal downloading plays a huge factor, especially with singles.

^and singles are also less interested. People are more interested in buying albums than singles.

tbh, 86k after 2 days is pretty good. i'm sure with MSSL and all the other year-end specials the single will get a sales boost. :)

Yep, knew it was too soon to celebrate. Ayu's sales are much too front loaded these days. (and imagine what they would be without 4 versions to buy.)

It's pretty safe to say Days/GREEN will get weekly no. 1 this time. So far it has been sold around 85K. SCS is currently no. 2 rite now with total sales ~14K. The difference is around 70K, and SCS is already on their second week. So I dun really think ayu will be harmed this time.

Actually you guys have to prepare for another attack tomorrow. Oricon will show Friday's index tomorrow and usually Fri is the lowest selling day. My prediction for Days/GREEN Fri index will be 4000 or less.

I am hoping the index won't drop below 4 k and there is still four days left, and if it raises a bit during the weekend it could sell a bit more than 115 k in the first week, at least the song seems to be doing really well digitally.

actually there are only three days left. Oricon weekly chart starts from Tues, and ends on Sunday. (MW is the exception because it was released on Apr 8, and this special day was on Monday).

^I think that Japanese blog (Natsu Style) points out really well. Since avex started doing those FC special (e.g., teamayu preorder special), the first day sales (or preorder sales on Tuesday) is always very high, then the second (real release day) is always low. Back then the first and second day indexes are pretty close to each other. I think now avex is kinda similar to JE. First day huge index, then a sharp drop on the second day.

I think this doesn't necessarily apply to other companies tho. At least EMI doesn't have fan club preorder special for hikki, nor Sony handed out special gifts if you preorder Mika's VOICE :P.

And EMI doesn't have the special offers and Hikki's latest singles didn't really appeal to Japs at least in terms of purchasing the physical releases, though they did really well digitally and it seems that is happening to Ayu as well (at least with Days).

That's easy, I could name at least 2(B&D/Pride, Cherry Girl/Unmei) singles that were released a few weeks prior to an album which had better physical sales than HEART STATION/Stay gold. I mean come on who would buy a physical single which has no extras and at times not even a DVD when you can get the song online for less money (not to mention the "fan-made" looking covers). PoL might've been a dumb example as it was a recut but some people still think that MW is a recut (I don't tough) and even tough it didn't have a major jdrama to back it up it sold better physicly even tough the song wasn't a big hit like PoL was, simply because it had good bonuses and it didn't look cheap.

And don't worry you won't see a fresh material from Hikki (in Japan) unless there is a new ultra popular drama coming on as she doesn't seem to make music for any other reason the last 2 years, so there will be nothing to compare in a while, I'm afraid :P

The examples you've given are not most suitable ones hehe. B&D did have higher first week sales than HS/SG. The thing is back then digital sales were not that huge during 2005. Also, B&D was consider a failure in terms of sales. ~70K (? I forgot the exact sales figure) was a really embarrassing number for ayu in 2005. I wasn't shocked, but I was surprised how suddenly her weekly sales dropped that severely (168K from HEAVEN). Of course now we know that the Japanese didn't like the change (music wise) at all.
