first myspace entry!

January 31, 2009 - Saturday

This is Utada
Current mood:My God, there are so many moods to choose from

Thank you for all the comments!

Posting a blog for the first time is making me a tad nervous; I am so completely new to MySpace. Maximizing its full features may take a little time but please bear with me.

I just shot the video for "Come Back To Me" (on January 27th and 28th, to be exact), and the editing process is now under way. I got to see a few still shots (captures) and they look amazing. I'm sure the video will be posted here as soon as it's done.

The new album is nearly done as well. I decided on the song sequences today, and it'll soon be sent out for mastering. The title will be announced shortly, I believe.

Oh, I can hardly wait :)

My favorite ballad from her is First Love probably because it's my first... although I think I heard the remix of it first and though it was the real song because when I heard the ballad I was shocked... so I'll say the remix of it is my favorite... xD; If... that counts? :O

I like First Love , it's 1 of the earlier Utada songs that I have heard of her & it's nice

jbrat2219 1st February 2009 05:01 AM

Thanks for the entry! I'm glad to hear the title will be announced soon :)

Yum!Fruit_Salad! 1st February 2009 05:40 AM

Wow, she's busting her ass to get everthing done!
Woot, title coming soon!

rikku411 1st February 2009 05:48 AM

I can hardly wait as well! She got so many Myspace comments already, haha. People really like her... it makes me feel good. I have high hopes for this album =]

KarenPang 1st February 2009 05:54 AM

I saw her MySpace entry earlier on when I logged onto my a/c

great to see so much love being showered on her :yes

NintendoHTF1242 1st February 2009 05:55 AM

Can someone link me to her Myspace? I'm too lazy to go find it on Myspace myself and I don't want to go through every single topic here (unless it's on the 1st page :B)

Favorite comedian

Holy mackerel!

Steve Martin is on Saturday Night Live!

He's been my favorite comedian since childhood.

"The Jerk" is the comedy flick of all time, in my opinion... this is more exciting for me than the Superbowl :)

jbrat2219 1st February 2009 07:25 AM

^ Anything is more exciting than the Super Bowl when my team lost the playoffs ;_;...
I love Steve Martin too ^^;

I know right. She blogs about everyday stuff and it's awesome! haha.

amorphose 1st February 2009 06:43 PM

I was surprised that she made two blogs~ I bet she was like "Woah!" when she saw how much feedback she gets to see right away compared to her U3 site (where I assume she has to check her mail.)

Yum!Fruit_Salad! 1st February 2009 08:00 PM

Seeing all the comments probably puts a big grin on her face.

Why can't the US site be like this...as bare as it is, it's more than the US site.

I just hope that they promote it a lot better. And that would be interesting if she did name the album UTADA...since that's easily promotable "The self-titled album"

Beauty4123 2nd February 2009 01:25 AM

but then they'd say she copied BoA's USA album - "BoA" :laugh LOL.

CoriKaru 2nd February 2009 01:51 AM

I hate "Self Titled" Albums. Plus it's a waste of a title. People are going to know your name anyway when they find out about the Album. Not to mention Utada likes to name her Albums after her songs so that's good.

Yum!Fruit_Salad! 2nd February 2009 02:50 AM

^ With you on that. If in general anybody decides to have a self-titled album, don't make it your very first one.

jknza2664 2nd February 2009 03:17 AM

I think a self-titled would be a little more palatable since her name (Utada) is so different and almost sounds like an iconic one-name sort of deal like "Madonna" or "Cher" or something. Obviously if your name is like Jimmy Smith a self-titled first album gets no attention and seems awfully lazy. But some odd or obscure title like Ultra Blue or Heart Station would be good too.

The only album title that would kill me would be Come Back to Me. I don't even want to think about that.

sora-kara 2nd February 2009 04:08 AM

^yeah, come back to me, or anything with 'baby' in it would make me vomit hip-hop rainbows

Yum!Fruit_Salad! 2nd February 2009 04:59 AM

^ "vomit hip-hop rainbows" :laugh
I'm gonna start saying that now.

AyUta 2nd February 2009 05:51 AM

I hope it's not a self titled album either.
Ugh, I wish Hikki would write back to me through messages :weep I wrote her a long message, spilling out my fan love for her :cry

Utada’s official Japanese website has been updated with new information regarding her upcoming “ten” and “sen” book releases. The 2 books go on sale March 10th and are each a whopping 512 pages in length. The price for “ten” and “sen” are 2,499 and 1,995 yen, respectively.

First post updated regarding important info on ten and sen and the covers. :)

[kokoro♥] 2nd February 2009 07:44 AM

omggg.

Thank you for updating the front page Luv.

Keiichi_JPU 2nd February 2009 10:00 AM

I'm so glad Hikki is not with Avex!

Avex would make those books 3500 yen EACH, not 3500 yen total :laugh
30 Euro's for two books with a total of a thousand pages is nothing when you're used to Ayu's prices :D

Hmm.. I'm gonna have to save some costs on Rule/Sparkle and hikki's new album... maybe I'll order on YesAsia and have slow shipping.. :(

I want those books..

Yeah Avex makes you want to stop reading =P

But I hear the Japanese government regulates the prices of books and such, no?

Beauty4123 2nd February 2009 09:10 PM

those books should be pretty interesting. what are they really about, anyway? :shrug

Luv ~Venus~ 2nd February 2009 09:42 PM

^“Ten” consists of an essay written by Utada, focusing on everything from her marriage and divorce, to the joys and pain of writing music. There is also a long interview conducted by Utada’s long time official writer, Ms. Matsuura, along with photos from her debut in 1999 to the present.

Sen” is a collection of Utada’s official blog/messages and website updates plus photographs taken on location by the same man who photographed her “First Love” album.

Beauty4123 2nd February 2009 09:45 PM

ohh i see! thanks luv :D it sounds pretty cool.

^I was juuuuuust about to post that. Wow, sometimes I forget how big Utada's Japanese accomplishments are. She's a legend.

Beauty4123 3rd February 2009 03:28 AM

what exactly is the press kit? lol.

Polyrhythm 3rd February 2009 03:30 AM

^ Iunno but to me, that means MORE VIDEO FOOTAGE OF HIKKI! <3

Beauty4123 3rd February 2009 03:30 AM

oh there's video? i'll go to that site now, lol.

....ahh that was awesome! it kinda make me laugh though, lol, because the intro and stuff was so dramatic :laugh but were those promo shots in the video for her album, btw? they looked new. ANYWAY, i'm very proud to be an utada fan after watching that video :D

Polyrhythm 3rd February 2009 03:37 AM

^ I'm pretty sure that was her in the studio recording for her new album

Beauty4123 3rd February 2009 03:38 AM

no i meant those 2 new pictures. they looked new to me.

Luv ~Venus~ 3rd February 2009 03:45 AM

Polyrhythm 3rd February 2009 04:01 AM

^ Working on it >_< And wtheck your school lets you use youtube =O

Luv ~Venus~ 3rd February 2009 04:14 AM

^I'm a college student. lol I could watch youtube in high school tho. I forgot the name of the site but I went there and it allowed me to go on sites like youtube without my school board noticing it.

Sundae 3rd February 2009 04:31 AM

The video is only available to those that live in the US apparently. lol at how they edited in some excited audience from somewhere else into the beginning. I've noticed before how quiet Japanese crowds are. That's probably why they needed a crazier audience. Anyway, it was nice to see the stats show off how great Utada is.

Yum!Fruit_Salad! 3rd February 2009 04:42 AM

If those two pics are promo for the new album, I wouldn't mind.
They probably edited the excited audience footage from her concert in New York.
Those stats are eye opening, I mean, holy cow.

jbrat2219 3rd February 2009 04:46 AM

Great promo video! Will it be aired on TV?

NintendoHTF1242 3rd February 2009 05:03 AM

I liked Ne-Yo's comments to Utada. It's awesome to know that he thinks she's the most talented person he's worked with in some time. I hope she does a duet with him on the new album (or include Do You (I think that was the title XD))

EDIT: My Sister-in-Law was in the kitchen while I was listening to Come Back To Me and she said "Is that Mariah's new song?" and I said "No, it's Utada" and she said "Wow, she sounds a lot like Mariah."

Purple Neko 3rd February 2009 05:19 AM

I was about to post the press kit as well lol. and HO SHIET DO I see some new pics!

Polyrhythm 3rd February 2009 06:26 AM

For those who don't live in the U.S and want to see it, I've uploaded it on youtube. Here you go (go quick before it gets deleted or some crap):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3evD1AP79s

norain 3rd February 2009 08:18 AM

Wow. They actually got people to talk about her...I mean recognizable people. Ne-Yo and Stargate. And not some drunk looking (use your camera we need you to say this) Timbaland saying "you're the best".

This is great. I'm sure MTV will pick parts of it up again for the MTV NEWS segment. =) I hope that she gets a #1 single!

It's also great that...well from the looks of it...stargate didn't produce the entire album themselves...utada had a lot of input also. =)

Interview with Examiner.com :D Thanks to U.Blog for the heads up.

Spoiler:
"A Conversation with Utada"
by Mike Parker

You might not recognize the name, Utada, but you soon will. Born into a musical family, Hikaru Utada had written and recorded her first song before she entered jr. high. Before she got out of junior high she had already signed her first record deal. In the past ten years all she has done is sell more than 52 million records in Japan. Utada’s new single, “Come Back to Me” is set to impact pop radio on February 9th, and her Island Def Jam debut album is scheduled to drop in the US in late March. Will the 26 year old pop diva deliver a repeat performance of her Japanese success? After chatting with Utada on the phone, I wouldn’t bet against her.

Mike Parker – There is an old saying that goes, ‘Nothing succeeds like success.’ You’re huge in Japan. Why bother trying to crack the American market?

Hikaru Utada – It’s something new and challenging and fun. I don’t want to be enthroned in one place and feel like there is nothing left to accomplish. I don’t want to get caught up in the unreal position that success can engender. I would rather be climbing the mountain that sitting on top of one.

Parker – You come from a musical family. How much did that influence your choice to pursue music as a career?

Utada – As a child I really wanted to avoid choosing that career path. Watching my parents I realized at an early age that music is an unstable career. I think my mother wanted me to become a musician, so I’m not sure I had a choice (laughs). I have a choice now, of course, and I’m happy being a musician.

Parker – What kind of training get your parents give you as a musician?

Utada – I had no musical training when I was growing up. My training came from just living with musicians. I was an only child so I was frequently with my mother when she was traveling, performed or in the studio recording. I remember after school when I was in the first or second grade I would go straight to the studio and do my homework there. I was already living like a musician. It was all watch and learn.

Parker – Did your parents give you any advice about being a musician that you have found to be indispensable?

Utada – I don’t think so, no. Not direct advice. I’ve mostly just watched and learned from them. They really let me grow on my own. They never made me take specific classes or lessons. They waited to see where my interest lie and then they helped me find the resources I needed to excel at that.

Parker – You were born and raised in Manhattan. Why did you decide to pursue your pop music career in Japan?

Utada – It wasn’t a conscious choice on my part. It didn’t matter to me, it just happened that way. I made an album in English when I was in my early teens, but there were some complications at the label and it never came out. But EMI Japan heard it and when they realized I was Japanese they encouraged me to do an album in Japanese. Things just took off from there.

Parker – At age 26 you’ve already had a career that far eclipses most recording artists. Are there challenges that you still look forward to facing?

Utada – I get excited about everyday things like cooking, or making sure my room is humidified. Just daily living. Little things excite me.

Parker – In addition to being a recording artist you also write your own music and have had a pretty large role in producing. What is your favorite part of the creative process?

Utada – I can’t chop up the process into little pieces. It is all one process for me. I can’t do an autopsy and take out one part. Creativity is one organism for me and I love the whole process.

The Seven Questions

1. What’s your favorite sound?
Utada – An MRI. I love the sound I hear when I am inside it. I wish I could sample it.

2. What makes you happy?
Utada – Being grateful. Being appreciative.

3. What makes you angry?
Utada – People who are not professional on their job. It doesn’t matter what the job is, you can be a waitress or a CEO, if you are good at your job I admire that. If you are not, it irritates me. And people standing around in doorways. It’s a doorway. Don’t stand there.

4. What is the secret of success?
Utada – It is to not know the secret; to be unaware on some level.

5. If you could have dinner with anyone in history, living or dead, who would it be?
Utada – Roald Dahl, the author.

6. What is the epitaph that is written on your tombstone?
Utada – I see no epitaph. Just my name and the years. Very simple. Nothing elaborate.

7. When you get to heaven, what is the first thing you want to hear God say to you?
Utada – ‘Oh, you again.’

Mirai Noah 3rd February 2009 06:14 PM

Wow, the Press Kit thing was cool! :D

CoriKaru 3rd February 2009 06:47 PM

The Press Kit surprisingly made "Come Back To Me" sound like a better song to me. I like it more after hearing it in that context. All dramatic. Nice Music Editing.

Unfortunately Ne-Yo was in the Press Kit, which made me hate him more. Ugh.

"Vomit Hip-Hop Rainbows"
HAHAHA!

I'm not even scared of "Come Back To Me" being the Album Title. There's no reason to suspect so. Never did, and after her Myspace announcement of the Title being "Revealed" soon, there's definitely no reason to think so now.

chocopockymaster 3rd February 2009 06:55 PM

Funny how I didn't see a single Japanese audience member when they were showing footage of the crazy people in the crowd...

Sundae 3rd February 2009 07:37 PM

"And people standing around in doorways. It’s a doorway. Don’t stand there."

:roflmao :yes Those people are annoying. I found it interesting that she said that. As if lately all she's been doing is running into annoying people standing in doorways, blocking her way.

emi♡ 3rd February 2009 08:02 PM

^I know :laugh

and Roald Dahl<3

Beauty4123 3rd February 2009 09:13 PM

OMG that interview was amazing. each answer utada gave was just so normal, lol. i loved the doorway and heaven comments :laugh

Sundae 3rd February 2009 10:05 PM

Utada really likes MySpace because she made two posts in one day. I didn't even noticed because UBlog only mentioned one. Since Utada likes posting about everything and anything, I'm gonna be checking out her blog more often.

BTW the album name is This Is The One.
Tracks mentioned in the bio "Me Muero" "F.Y.I." "Apples and Cinnamon"

@Sundae @_@

Rogue 3rd February 2009 10:52 PM

@Maemi: That news is in the post on her Myspace. You have to scroll down the message a lot, but it's at almost the bottom of her blog (?)
Couldn't find the name of the album there, though :o

"Me Muero" a spanish song? Surprises me :o I hope it's as good as Il Mare Dei Suoni from Kokia (not that those two are to compare but hey!) , but then in Utada-style ^^

The Apple And Cinnamon track is also on, nice! The title excites me, wonder what it's like ^^

Beauty4123 3rd February 2009 11:02 PM

The album title is on her offical website. http://islandrecords.com/site/promo/...tada/index.htm

I was gonna edit my post with the sources, but then AHS broke again and when I refreshed there were a bunch of responses already.

THIS IS THE ONE

OOOOMMGMGMGMGMGMGMO

*fanboy madness*

;___; what a great album title. THIS IS THE ONE UTADA! give em your best shot!

:weep

edit: OMG LOOK AT THIS:

"But unlike most pop starlets around the world, Utada is also a songwriter and producer; indeed, she says that she thinks of herself as a composer more than as a performer. And on her new Island Def Jam album—ten self-penned songs produced by the powerhouse producers Stargate (Ne-Yo, Rihanna, Beyonce) and Tricky (Britney Spears, Madonna, Mariah Carey)—26-year-old Utada reveals the unique sense of songcraft that is poised to make her a force in the US and European music communities."

I LOVE YOU :luv2

Purple Neko 4th February 2009 12:06 AM

OMG OMG OMG YES! so excited im like yeaahhh... xD

Yum!Fruit_Salad! 4th February 2009 12:41 AM

Now we have the title, all we need is the tracklist and album cover.

Polyrhythm 4th February 2009 01:00 AM

AHHHHH! I love the name! This album really IS THE ONE! to buy that is....*preorders

jknza2664 4th February 2009 01:09 AM

I think Hikki's been trickling out little Myspace tidbits because she's very jealous of the attention BoA's been getting :). I kid of course. I am looking forward to Hikki's new album more than BoA's, maybe because I haven't heard anything off Hikki's aside from the single. Plus, Hikki always puts out good albums. BoA not as consistent, as I think even fans would concede.

I don't know why Hikki said in the interview Exodus had her trying too hard. Sure Easy Breezy, and maybe some of the sleeze of the Workout and Tippy Toe or something may not be 100% her style, but I thought most of the album was authentic and some very personal.

I AM EXCITED FOR THIS LIKE WHOA

CoriKaru 4th February 2009 02:11 AM

Also on her Myspace page up at the top where it shows her Single Cover, it also has new text added saying the name of the Album is "This Is The One".

I can only imagine what the title of the next Utada thread will be. Not if I can help it.('-')

rikku411 4th February 2009 02:30 AM

^ :laugh. I kinda like the title... "This Is The One"

Hmm, this is the one to propel her into the U.S. market?

dreamcrushed 4th February 2009 02:37 AM

THIS IS THE ONE IN A MILLION:
The 25th Utada Thread!

Quick, CoriKaru -- get some tissues to stanch your bleeding eyes!

I couldn't help myself -- I lasted about a week abstaining from Utada-related forms of electronic communication thanks to this. Srsly, it's not that bad. You haven't seen much in your music life if you think that one phrase is anything worth discussing.

CoriKaru 4th February 2009 02:43 AM

Oh My God.....

Curse You.

dreamcrushed 4th February 2009 02:53 AM

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

You know it's gonna be that. Or just "This is the One: The 25th Utada Thread" (which is kinda funny by deeming all other Utada threads irrelevant).

Or maybe "F.Y.I.: This is the One -- The 25th Utada Thread!"

Or "You sure as hell won't be saying 'Me Muero' in the 25th Utada Thread!"

Apples and Cinnamon was already used... Maybe the tracklisting will be out before a new thread is created... I'm getting carried away here. Do some brainstorming -- it's the least you can do to prevent that awful optical bleeding. *(^_^)*

CoriKaru 4th February 2009 03:07 AM

"Debuting Utada For The 1st Time in Her 25th Thread" (Play on words being that they're kind of making it seem like "This Is The One" is her first English Album and leaving out poor "Exodus" on purpose so we're disregarding all her other threads)

"Exodus Never Existed in Utada's 25th Thread" (Because that's how they're acting)

"Listen To Utada Die in Her 25th Thread" (Because of "Me Muero")

"Watch As Utada's Hair Gets Cut Shorter and Shorter in Her 25th Thread" (Because it's not growing)

"A Little Bit of Oooooooooooooo and a Whole Lot of TADAAAAAA in her 25th Thread" ("Oooooooooo" sounds like the sound the letter "U" makes as in "Ooooing" and "Aaahhhhing" in a crowd and "TADAAAAA" sounds like "Tada" as in what a magician shouts after a Magic Trick)
OR
"She's Got Us Oooooooing at Her Tadaaaaa(s) in her 25th Thread"

Yeah...........remember this the next time you ask ME to Brainstorm. I apologize in advance for any offenses. Ha.

this is the one?

what happened to exodus?

CoriKaru 4th February 2009 03:51 AM

Another one came to me!

"You'll Die Right Along With Utada in Her 25th Thread"

EDIT: What's an exodus? *Cough*

Beauty4123 4th February 2009 03:58 AM

^ that title is just a tad bit depressing :laugh

Luv ~Venus~ 4th February 2009 03:58 AM

I didn't think people were into melody. all that much. XD Congrats to her and Hikki. No Ayu, Kuu, nor Namie. Wut in the world? lol AVEX might wanna step up their game with these ladies.

As for the thread topic title convo, some of the suggestions are cool and all (off topic as well) but whoever makes the next thread, for peak sake, keep it updated.

ROFL. They didn't whitewash it from her discography! She felt that "This Is The One" is her true debut (which has apparently hurt someone so much at JPM that he needed to call her a "sellout-hooker"). But she also said that Exodus represents "thickest color" of herself. Yet, in that "About Utada" essay, she said that felt so insecure and too "try-hard" and gimmicky with the songs on Exodus. I disagree, but I know many people agree with her on this current assessment (and I can kind of see why, with certain songs... so does this mean I actually agree? Argh.). I have no doubt that it still was her -- but it probably an over-exaggerated effort on her part to overcompensate for her insecurity.

But she is in no way disowning it as a piece of work -- it's just not a "true" debut. It's still an important part of her growth as an artist. It's just this time it's more sincere... Or maybe this quote isn't the whole story. Someone needs to ask her. I'll probably send her an e-mail myself sometime...

And "You'll Die Right Along With Utada in Her 25th Thread" is pure thread-titling fail. UR DOIN IT RONG. TRY HARDER. (Though I must say "She's Got Us Oooooooing at Her Tadaaaaa(s) in her 25th Thread" contains a bit of win).

Melody.? That list automatically became a joke once I saw her name.

Zeke. 4th February 2009 04:36 AM

I just hope they at least use proper grammar. Lol.

OMG. Don't talk about melody. like that ok. She's a great artist. :)

Yum!Fruit_Salad! 4th February 2009 04:57 AM

It's probably because she was the host. She's good but I'm sure being the host helped(and there's nothing wrong with that). ;P

amorphose 4th February 2009 04:59 AM

WOW.

Can you say news overload? haha. This is so exciting! I wasn't really that internet savy around the time of EXODUS's release so I didn't get to experience all the slowly coming in news and stuff the first time. ;)

I really like the album title. I'm surprised at how lengthy it is compared to her usual one or two word titles. The new tracks sound really promising too. I'm so curious now, it's killing me. xD

Yeah, I read that MySpace Biography as well. But until today, there was practically no mention of "Exodus" promotion wise this time around. I still consider it an important Album of hers and deserving of recognition. Oh well.

Awww really. I like the Dying one. It's different. Might be a little "Dark", but this is the women who writes songs about death and looks forward to it and just released a song title that translates into "I Die"/"I'm Dying". Hmmm.......

But hey, at least I did produce a "bit of win". :cool

Ningin has just posted part 1 of an interview with Utada regarding her upcoming album, “This Is The One.” Some interesting facts regarding the album:

-6 tracks are produced by Stargate, 4 by Tricky Stewart.

-She wanted to work with producers who were more “track makers” than producers, who could build material to bring out the character of the artist. Hence no big name producers like Timbaland this time around.
A little disappointed that she didn't work on any tracks all by herself. At least this means no Prisoner of Love english version, or Simple and Clean, or Sanctuary. All new tracks. Maybe no interlude either.

I see... People have already taken the liberty to assume that it's a love song (me muero por ti). Whatevs.

And Sundae beat me to the U.Blog post! The Ningin interview is unintentionally hilarious. Poor David, shocked by the real world. And bless his little heart for his attempt to get her to promise him that the rest of "This is the One" would not be similar to Come Back To Me with his awkward hinting around. Part 2 will probably be a riot, too. I don't know why you're disappointed, Sundae. It was in the press release and the "About Utada" essay that she worked with them on all the tracks. Denial? :innocent

Ahh, I can see the flame wars now... What a sight to behold.

Sundae 4th February 2009 05:59 AM

lol Reread what I typed. I said ALL BY HERSELF. As in she was the main influence behind the track. With Exodus, she worked with Timberland but her influence was still heard. I thought it would be similar here. Working beside them but instead she's taking a back seat on this one. Not letting her sound thru. Not a bad thing considering what she's trying to achieve. I still like CBtM so not that disappointed about it.

Well what song nowadays isn't a love song really.

Isn't that the other way around? She said THEY took a backseat and that she was much more involved and got to make it sound like her opposed to when she worked with Timbaland and it sounded like him.
