No, you obviously know nothing about her. She just wants to make music. She spends all her money for her shows and her music too.

emi♡ 22nd April 2009 04:12 AM

So why does she dress like this and stuff?

She just likes it?

I mean I can understand about the pants...because I don't really care for wearing them either...but...that outfit from the livejournal post is just wtf...

See this is another part of where I feel like she's trying to hard....I wish I like, knew her personally...

but it's not only the clothes...it's also the things she does with her voice in some performances.

Actually...regarding that particular outfit...I just wish the boots were better...and more form fitting...those ones are awful...I wonder who made them...

Pretty much. There are pictures of her from her predebut days before she dyed her hair, and she's dressed about the same way.

ayumi! lady gaga's outfits have more dimensions than her personality. it gets hard reading her interviews because my eyes are rolling in the back of my head.

I haven't heard a Lady Gaga song except parts of Poker Face once. Based on that I pick Ayumi.

Kingdom 22nd April 2009 05:09 AM

ayumi.. lady gaga is trashy and not as beautiful as ayu

Strawberryfieldsforever 22nd April 2009 07:34 PM

I've been a fan of Ayu since she release her first album, A song for XX.

But nowadays, Ayu just bores me. Or maybe I've outgrown her or something.

Along comes Lady Gaga and she provided the much needed excitement and music that I've always subconsciously wanted.

So i'll pick Lady Gaga over Ayu right now :(

But seriously, Lady Gaga is genuinely talented. Ireally enjoy her wacky fashion and her live performances and also, almost all her music in her album, The Fame.

Loo-chan 22nd April 2009 10:43 PM

In my opinion, Lady GaGa is a MUCH more talented musician than Ayu - her voice really is amazing - but I definitely prefer Ayu's music. Every single one of GaGa's songs is the same thing reinvented, and they all center around the same subjects. Even Summerboy, my favourite song from her first album, has the line "get your ass in my bed". :| It's catchy, but come on. You can only sing the same song so many times.

Meanwhile, Ayu continues to reinvent herself over and over. Maybe she's not as strong of a performer or a singer, but I much prefer the honesty and poetry of her lyrics to that of Lady GaGa.

... though if this were a poker face v. poker face poll, I'd definitely go with GaGa. :P

kang daesung 24th April 2009 08:41 AM

I don't see how people could possibly say Ayumi is more talented... her voice is nothing compared to Lady Gaga's, and Gaga also writes much better music, and is kewter, and her clothes are better.

Andrenekoi 24th April 2009 09:23 AM

Gaga for sure is more involved with her music (at least melody-wise, they are at the same level of involviment lyric-wise)... But I give Ayu some credit for being a good producer (not only of the concerts, but if she picks the melodies and arrangments of every song of hers and make sure that all the album come out the way she wants, to me she is a producer, even if she is not being credited as one) all over these years (yeah, I liked every concert of hers since at03-04 and even If I don't think that My Story and Secret are very good albums, she produced Rainbow, (miss)understood and next level, wich IMO are amazing pop albums), not forgeting that she is an amazing performer with a huge stage presence, even if she doesn't have the best voice over there (pretty much like Madonna on here, but with better vocal and no dancing skills). So yeah, to me, Ayu is very talented =)

I just think that they both are amazing at whatever they try to do, but Ayu is creating for some time while Gaga is very new... The girl still needs some time =)

Uemarasan 24th April 2009 11:22 PM

Can't one love them both?

Anyway, Ayu TECHNICALLY may not have the best voice, but even technique is not enough when it comes to good music. Passion, soul, feelings, emotions, these are more important for me. When it comes to the passion and emotions that Ayu brings to her singing, I think she is incomparable.

AyUta 25th April 2009 03:09 AM

Well...of course...I prefer Ayu :heart

CaseNumber:825 25th April 2009 04:43 PM

I don't get what the big deal with Lady GaGa
It's all been done before, even her whole 'weird' image that she likes

I mean, just look at Björk for crying out loud
Lady GaGa is not unique, or original, or special.... and after watching her interview on Jonathan Ross..... well she came across as a right arrogant cow to be honest. One of the shortest interviews I've ever seen.

I'm only using the Björk comparison because I like Björk, but in my opinion if you want a truly talented singer/songwriter who is eccentric and odd, then go for her instead, because you're not getting anything new from Lady GaGa

This:
Björk - Pagan Poetry (Live)

Is more appealing (and just generally better) than this:

Lady GaGa - Poker Face (Live)

Andrenekoi 25th April 2009 05:18 PM

But with Bjork you don't have pop music :P
I prefer Gwen Stefani in the "weird" department xD

Yoake 25th April 2009 06:28 PM

I prefer Ayu of course!

They are copying each other xD Lady GaGa starts with Poker Face, and then Ayumi with the sunglasses xD

But for course Ayu

Yarumi 25th April 2009 10:15 PM

of course Ayu but I do LOVE Lady Gaga too! She's all about an artistic performance... not just singing.

We all know that Ayu can be eccentric... Well Lady Gaga is eccentric in a different way... Most artists are eccentric to some point :)

TeeMo 26th April 2009 03:13 AM

Ayu of course.

HybridTheory 27th April 2009 02:09 PM

How the heck can you even compare the two? Sure I like GaGa, but she is new and one decent record doesn't mean squat (I still think The Fame pales in comparison to a lot of Ayu's material.

Okay that may be her lol, I've listened to some of her other songs and the voice is the same. I have to say, I don't really care for her music, it doesn't sound like anything I haven't heard before... Reminds me of PCD somewhat, but I like them more lol.

Ayu all the way!

I saw Lady Gaga on a great TV show here in Germany and this performance was just ridiculous!
The wig she wore didn't suit her face at all as well as the body suit she was wearing... it was too tight for her body, she looked fat in it because of that.
Then her dance moves... she was out of the beat almost the whole song and compared to her dancers she just seems as an awful dancer. o.O
The host of this show stated afterwards that they have to wait a minute so that all the lightning and stuff could be buit up - Lady Gaga insisted on special lightning and stage...

Apart from that I like her music, some songs are really nice.
But this performance made me dislike her. -_-

jbrat2219 29th April 2009 05:17 PM

^ Which performance was this? I've only seen one German performance.

panda♥ 29th April 2009 05:43 PM

I prefer Ayumi, obviously.

Lady Gaga has some nice songs, but I honestly don't like "****ty" music artists. I know that's not ALL she's about, but all of her BIG music videos have some type of sexual thing in them. She dry humps the air in Poker Face, has a whole scene where she's kissing on a guy in his underwear and even slides down to his crotch area. The first few seconds of Love Game she's already kissing a guys neck. The next scene she's topless with 2 men, spreading her legs all over the place. The last minute of the video she's spread her legs again with the 2 men from the beginning and then she's close to making out with a female and male cop.

Gaga is creative, I'll give her that but I just don't like her image at all. She's too sexual for my taste.

There was a video of the performance at youtube but the german production company removed it. :(

^ It was horrible in the same amount in The Dome 49(I think) she had a special stage and lightning and everything, but she lipped the choruses, sang the rest horrible, was out of synch with her dancing and looked horrible, I guess shes just no live artist(Britney Spears, anyone?)

jbrat2219 30th April 2009 05:19 AM

So the video for Love Game because I was hoping it wasn't as bad as panda♥ described. But I have to say, I kind of really don't care for the video... The song itself is the kind of music that is only appropriate during one circumstance, sex with your significant other in the privacy of your bedroom (kitchen, living room, shower, wash room...). I know she's a s|ut provocative individual but my gosh, is that really what you want to base your entire image on? Sure she may right her own lyrics, music and design her own clothes but it still all comes back to her being a... provocative individual... I dunno, I think there's a fine line b/w being sexy and trashy. Most of the video was "whatever" but I feel it crossed the line for me personally when she was naked all over those men and spreading her legs.... I get it, you want to ride their disco stick, you don't have to show us how, thanks lol.

SelfishHands 30th April 2009 07:49 PM

AYUMI cannot be beaten as she is a QUEEN and LADY GAGA is just a PAWN or maybe even a ROOK
definitely not a BISHOP tho

also! AYU-SAMA's irl poker face is better than LADY GAGA's becuz no emotion will ever be read across her beatiful porcelain face

Singing while playing an instrument is very hard too... maybe as hard as singing while moving...

Not if youre used to it, to be honest, i only watched like the first minute of it(voice annoyed me...but it was enough to see that she was singing way better than in The Dome), the playing didnt really look hard to me in that time...i dont play the piano so i cant really say though(only play guitar)

It is if you are using singing technic... it's like playing 2 instruments at the same time

emi♡ 1st May 2009 05:22 AM

it's not THAT hard...especially if you know the piece down to where you have memorized it and everything...

The only thing I think would be hard for her is to remember what style to throw her voice in next.

This is the only thing I don't like about her. She's doing all this **** with her voice...for what?

Where is her voice? I mean I'm happy she can pretend to be like other badass female singers...but if I wanted to listen to their voices, I would listen to them, not her.

At a lot of parts it sounds like she's tearing the crap out of her vocal cords. It's just annoying.

It sounds like she's got a nice voice under there...I wanna hear it.

Like I said, Gaga is probably a good artist and a great singer but her sexual image and sexual lyrics that she apparently "writes herself" covers up the talent. Her talent is hiding behind a ****ty image and I don't think we'll ever get to see her talent because nobody cares about it especially after releasing a song and video like Love Game.

You can't tell me that "I wanna take a ride on your disco stick" isn't meant to be or doesn't sound sexual.

emi♡ 1st May 2009 06:47 AM

Maybe she wants to be sexual?

Why does being sexual automatically have to refer to a gimmick to get sales?

If I made music, I'd probably do some sexy things too...because it's fun. I don't care if people like it or not, people like different things. You can't please everyone all the time.

Seems like she was always kinda ****ty.

panda♥ 1st May 2009 06:51 AM

I'm not saying she's doing it to get sales, but her big music videos have always been sexual and people have been talking about how she has real talent, but where is it? You never see it because it's hidden behind her sexual persona. Sure you can be sexy, but don't put yourself out to be a **** which is what she looks like to me. That's my opinion.

ayumixfan 1st May 2009 06:52 AM

^ lol thats what I think, she's not being ****ty to get sales. She's doing it because she likes it LMAO I think you can be ****ty and be talented lol. Its just most people ignore a person's talent because they don't like sexual explicit stuff. I think christina is a good example. when she went ****ty her in dirty, her voice was still amazing but people hated on her, and when she released beautiful people love her again.

OMG I NEVER NOTICED THAT disco stick spelled that LOL WOW For some reason I think thats pure genius AHAHHA it makes so much sense XD ~!!!

Well I think playing an instrument and singing is still hard, regardless. haha its probably easier than moving while singing, but I think it still takes lots of practice and such.

pommy48 1st May 2009 06:52 AM

i guess a sexual image captivate the audience more

LOL, well if that's who she is,that's who she is. And yeah, it seems for me at least, it's not the songs like (like Christina's Dirrty or Gaga's Love Game) that bother me, it's just that video >_<; Of course what would you expect with sexually explicit music xD; I know Christina has been in the music business longer and has evolved, but I want to see another side to Gaga other than a singing-dancing *****.

I personally don't like artists who try to use sexual actions to get attention and/or sales. It makes them look incredibly bad in my opinion and even if they did have talent you definitely wouldn't see it because sexual image > talent, atleast in America.

'Tis why I don't like Kumiko too much, either.

Definitely Ayu.

I pretty much detest Lady GaGa. I think her voice is average at her looks aren't even though. Plus, all her songs are awfully repetitive and she uses the "sex sells" tactic 10x more than Koda Kumi. XD

No, they can't. There's a LOT more to composing then thinking of a tune. You have to have a really good understanding of music to be able to successfully compose. What you consider "good tunes" is not a measure of talent. It's a personal opinion. If she wasn't talented, then NO ONE would like her and she wouldn't have put out an album
Wel... honestly, in one point i agree with u. Talent is based on her lyrics, and music compositions... And i don't know if she is a talented person. But from what i have heard about her, i state she is not good at what she does. Her music wasn't composed to be something harmonious, or beautiful... it was made to appeal to the masses or, in other words, to do something easy listening so it can make it to the charts. The pop music structures are really simple and don't search to do something with quality, i mean, this adjective it's not the main target or point in pop music these days. There is nothing unique or special about Gaga's music, but this very conceited girl wants us to believe the opposite. That, to my eyes, makes her a bad musician. This, is an opinion only, of course.

BUt about the other thing... that's relative because these days any fool can sing. I don't want to offend anyone, but look at Britney Spears... she is going on tour and she doesn't even sing in her concerts ¿how can she be considered a singer if she doesn't sing live? :rolleyes So much people doesn't care about talent. Good looks appeal more, apparently. And about Gaga, you can't deny she loves to get attention (actually a lot of people call her attention *****) with the subjects in her lyrics and her outrageous clothes. so honestly, with those points, i think it's hard to take her seriously as a musician... May be if she changes her image and the way she creates music, i'll change my mind about her :yes

Just Dance or Poker Face might be catchy for now, but a song like "M" is just a true masterpiece in my opinion. it's timeless as well.

don't get me wrong though, I like Lady Gaga! I bought her album and I love it!
I just think Ayumi is a much better and more talented artist.

Ayu has class, and to me, that's a very important quality for a female artist.
I'm not saying Lady gaga lacks class.. but I haven't seen a lot of it.

You´re asking this question on an Ayu forum, remember? So ofcourse I'll choose Ayu. I don't even like Lady Gaga that much.

I agree. I doubt any of Gaga's songs will be exciting for more than 2 years down the line. Ayu has ALOT of songs that are masterpieces and will be amazing and loved forever, I doubt that will ever happen with Gaga.

... and Gaga's panty hose in that picture make it look like she has bad cellulite. :tired

panda87 6th May 2009 05:44 PM

Ayu.

Lady GaGa's got catchy music, but that's it to her. nothing else appreciative. she doesn't have much to offer musically BUT that. she can't sing as well as Ayu either, and if you can't sing as well as Ayu, you can't sing at all b/c Ayu can't do much with her own voice either.

and i must mention... Lady GaGa is "hard to look at" in all aspects, in and out (and if you know Japanese, you'd know JUST what i mean). i also don't respect her overall like i respect Ayu.

v3lun420 6th May 2009 09:03 PM

Ugh... this is hard... I like them both. They are both talented, same class, different league. But i'll vote for AYu simply because she exists longer than GaGa (true? I dunno much about GaGa, so sorry if I am wrong). And I believe, a true artist isn't seasonal (like making 1 big hit whether it is a song, a single or an album and that's all coz the rest are all craps).

AyuRox 25th May 2009 04:19 AM

Ayu. Definitely. I like Just dance (sorta... De-Grees cover is way better than the original) and I'm indifferent to Poker Face. Seeing how I've never heard any of her other songs, I can't weigh in on them. The major turn off for me is that Just Dance and Pokerface are so rediculously slow!

Don't get me wrong, I love electronic, but Ayu is soo much better! Plus NEXT LEVEL is mostly electronic, so Ayu beats out Lady GaGa all the way.

bulmasman 25th May 2009 04:46 AM

Lady Gaga makes me wanna jab various sharp objects into my eye's and ears, so even ignoring how unbelievably awesome Ayumi is, it's always gonna be Ayu > a screaming cat > silence > nothingness > Gaga

One of the shortest interviews I've ever seen.
and that
:yes

Wel... honestly, in one point i agree with u.

:roflmao...

You wish

At some points I agree, but other times I think quite differently. Sure lady gaga's two main hits Pokerface and JustDance were made to appeal to masses, but other songs on her album are really nice. Brown Eyes is an example. I think its a really emotional piece. I also think paparazzi is very beautiful and harmonious and I really like the lyrics to it. I think lady gaga's music isn't generic. Not like the way you guys make it out to seem anyways. Sure there's a lot of dance/electropop music in the US, but she really stands out to me compared to other singers. But how we take in her music is just an opinion.

I think to judge someone as a musician because of the way they act is silly personally. I feel people need to stop judging people's talents because of the image they have. Although a lot of signers use the sex appeal to sell, it doesn't mean that their music should now be labelled as trashy and worthless.

And I don't blame her for being an attention *****. Honestly I think she's really smart for doing this, because if you don't focus on making yourself known, no1 will know you. Sure there are other ways to do it, but you got to use what you got to use right? I mean it goes for kuu too. If kuu didn't use ero-kakkoi or w.e. its called, she would've been a dead artist and no1 would pay attention to her. Now that she was able to catch people's attention, they can finally give her music a try and find out hey, she is a good artist. It's just lady gaga takes her sex appeal VERY far, but in the US industry, I feel its needed because a lot of singers are using the sex appeal, but as you can see, by going so far she's getting really famous. So its working. As most people said here, they think she's not very pretty, so if she was to go around and act like a diva no1 will care about her. Altho I think she knows she has the sex appeal, because if I'm not mistakened she worked for playboy before so she has to use what she can to grab attention. Even ayu attention *****d herself to get famous. Everyone is an attention ***** if they want to get famous.

Polyrhythm 26th May 2009 08:44 AM

This thread is so unfair and basically a deathtrap for lady gaga. Personally, I prefer Ayumi just because her music is more appealing to me, but Lady Gaga is a damn hard worker too so i dont understand how people can say she's untalented.

ayumixfan 26th May 2009 09:20 AM

^ lol Its just the truth though haha. I mean EVERYONE is a attention ***** if they're famous or else they'll die out. No1s going to look for u, you have to make urself noticable or get to them :P

Haha I agree xHeartStation, I believe i made this thread, but i didn't expect such dislike for lady gaga. She is a really hard worker and people do put her down too much. I mean a lot of people here like alan and respect her and look so highly upon her, and yet all she does is sing. While lady gaga who writes her music, lyrics, makes her own outfits, performs in clubs and the underground, and does A TONNE for her career is looked down upon like this. I mean at least give her some respect.

emi♡ 26th May 2009 10:41 AM

even with all the kuu haters? lol

the forum hates on anyone that threatens ayu, or tries to rain on her parade of dominance of every aspect of the music industry lol

ayumixfan 26th May 2009 11:00 AM

^ ah you're right. I'm just slow. haha. I actually use to hate kuu for being ****ty which was very immature. But now I actually like her CUZ she went ero-kakkoi. haha. I actually like her style much more back then now that I got past the Omg sex = bad phase. She was unique in japan and always will be : )! I just wish should still embrace it more instead of trying to fully attempt the cute image : (.

I pick Lady Gaga because I really think her music is great and catchy lol. I like Ayu, but her recent works have let me down :( ~! While Lady Gaga has not let me down yet lol! I even like Fashion from Confessions of a Shopaholic (Which is a GREAT movie btw, a must see IMO :) ) Yes, maybe her music will go downhill later but for now I like her better than Ayu.

I'm kinda bored on both! I was really impressed by gaga's Poker Face it was just perfect! (in my taste) espeicially visually, but now I've listened to it that much that it's not interessing anymore. She needs to release a new album! Or a new music video...

From ayu's latest works I've really liked Sparkle and Rule. She needs to release new material too. so I'd prefer her more.

waterballoon 26th May 2009 04:38 PM

tbh, I really admire Lady Gaga. I mean The Fame has been a good album so far, with just a few songs that I can't stand.

And I find Brown Eyes REALLY good so yeah. And Poker Face is needless to say, a gem.

There are a lot of things about her that I might not like or agree with, but I can't disagree that she's not musically inclined or whatever.

That being said, Ayu touches me a lot more because I can relate to her songs so much more!

I went through that phase too! But I got over it rather quickly with Kuu. I think the problem with me and Gaga is, I was introduced to her shortly after reading a lot of news about pregnant teenagers and hyper sexed children and I'm thinking, "Where the hell do they learn this behavior from?" *sees Gaga spread her naked legs in a music video* "THAT ***** RIGHT THERE!!!" xD; I was viewing her through the eyes of a 'parent' (even though I'm not a parent and do not wish to be one) and not through the eyes of an 'adult.' Now I actually don't find Gaga herself or her music half bad. I still don't totally like her as a person, but I respect her dedication and ability to create a catchy tune. I won't call myself a fan yet since I only like her three singles. But whatever, she's alright with me I guess xD;

Bellmer's Doll 27th May 2009 12:40 AM

Going with Ayu because Gaga's overly sexual lyrics turn me away from her music. I admit I'm a bit of a hypocrite because I just bought Utada's new US album but Gaga's main theme seems to be that she has an overactive sex drive and I just don't find that to be very appealing :shrug

Just to avoid any hate comments I may get, I don't have a problem with sexual lyrics our people with sexy images, I just don't like the ones that center their careers around being extremely sexual.

chloeM 27th May 2009 06:50 AM

I don't like that cover at all :no.

because! didn't you know...ayu apparently like owns in music see. and here...there's like no artists better than ayu...so when one comes along who has a ton of fans and stuff...and the majority of the ayu fans dislike that person's music/image, they're a threat. Automatically. Because people have to defend Ayu to the end, because they see her as underrated in the world...and it kinda baffles them that someone they think has no talent...would be more popular than her.

Seriously about Next Level...man...that album's like...a bad skid mark.

She does have quite a "weird" look...doesn't she...

and why can't she do normal naked covers that don't look awful even WITH photoshop? ... I guess that's the "gag inducing" bubble cover my friend was talking about earlier.

panda♥ 28th May 2009 01:47 PM

jeebus. "everyone thinks Ayu is better than said artist because they're a threat", yet there are people who are constantly unhappy with Ayu's latest magazine scan or song or album or single because of one little flaw. :rolleyes ridiculous.

Lady GaGa makes music that I'm into at the moment so I'd say I prefer her over Ayu right now who has disappointed me so hard lately. :/

I'm not sure if I like her music but her songs are really catchy. I'm a fan of "Just Dance" but not "Poker Face". I do like poker face more now after seeing Justin Timberlake spoof it on SNL tho :laugh
