I can't believe that 80% of the album is about Chris Brown...I know she's been through tough times, but it's like we get it, now move on LOL
Also, i've never really liked Rihanna's voice...it sounds mediocre at best

Same with Leona Lewis..I know she's the queen of ballads, but 90% of her new album consisted of ballads. An album has to be diverse to be interesting.

untitledforayu 20th November 2009 07:08 AM

I got so excited about her new sound when I heard 'Russian Roulette.' The chorus was so powerful and dark...but then I heard the album sampler and well...things just went downhill from there. I love ballads, but when an album is almost entirely comprised of slow to mid-tempo songs, the whole experience feels boring and monotonous.
'So Hard' is ok and so is 'Te Amo', but as for the rest...

RiRi is sooooo pretty though! IMO, she's the hottest person in the music industry atm!! :D

kotora 20th November 2009 06:51 PM

This album should not be called "Rated R", but it should be called

1. My Ex
2. Chris Brown
3. Past > Future

HILARIOUS!! Chris Brown must be flattered that Rihanna dedicated this album to him...

kotora 22nd November 2009 06:13 PM

Hole In My Head _Ft. Justin Timberland is better.. it is a bonus track.

U-GO-BOY 23rd November 2009 06:58 AM

woah I just watched her AMA performance and her vocals sounded SO weak.. as if she was crying over Chris Brown befor her performance xD

oh and Ri is releasing a 3CD box set on December 15th
included is this poster:

it also includes her 3 first albums and the box has space for Rated R

mcluva420 23rd November 2009 07:45 AM

wth is happening to Rihanna's image..@_@

anyways, i had like no expectations for Rated R. but after hearing the album, i loveed it!! :D

Violent Omelet 23rd November 2009 10:15 AM

I loved Russian Roulette and want to hear the album, but god, she sounded bad last night on the AMAs. Her live voice is so flat... very disappointing.

Going by some of the previews I've heard for Rated R, she's trying too hard to be this dark, edgy, hardcore girl now with the swearing flying everywhere (like with P!nk when she did Try This)... and it annoys me, BUT... I hope the songs are overall strong. She hasn't had a bad album yet. I'm not ready for one.

GRACE 23rd November 2009 07:17 PM

I wish she performed Russian Roulette at the AMAs last night, but instead she picks that crap. What was with her outfit too? It was crummy, and that word on her clevage and neck.

I liked her hair though

kotora 24th November 2009 05:58 AM

To be honest, I don't really like this era of Rihanna

As I said her

Past > Future

or more clearly

Past > Present

Corvina 24th November 2009 10:58 AM

I love Russian Roulette!
It's a great song and it suits her voice so much. :heart

GRACE 24th November 2009 08:11 PM

I heard Pon de Replay and Unfaithful for the first time today. I enjoyed Pon de Replay, but Unfaithful pretty much made me hate Rihanna's guts.

jbrat2219 25th November 2009 05:19 AM

Russian Roulette scares me... I honestly can not listen to that song :no

It's not bad or anything but it makes me think of suicide and that makes me think of my late friend.... ;-;

But off of the sadness! Her image scares me too :laugh. I hope this isn't inappropriate but ever since those pictures leaked it seems she doesn't mind who sees what anymore.... :rolleyes

Sundae 25th November 2009 05:43 AM

because her music went down the crapper >.>

koumori 25th November 2009 07:24 AM

^ Heyy look, I know your opinion now..I think we all do...soo...~

I like her new music, so stop forcing your negative comments down our throats ;/ There's shock because she's adapted this image all the time and also her music has gotten a darker image, not because everyone thinks the new material is bad.

CoriKaru 25th November 2009 11:21 PM

So I saw Rihanna's performance at the AMAs and the other night on David Lettermen.

As I've always said, it's not so much singing as it is just her speaking in her accent. Very grating on the ears. And on top of that, these songs aren't helping it.

She should have stuck with what was (kind of) working for her. Having some decent songs made her voice more forgiving.

I just heard a snippet of a reporter asking Rihanna what she wanted for Christmas and Rihanna said some great food and some great sex.

This isn't the first time she has said something like that in a recent interview. Not classy.

keepsgettinbetter 28th November 2009 08:16 PM

I can't stop listening to Russian Roulette! It's SO powerful, I love it. The video helped me love it though. :yes

GRACE 28th November 2009 08:25 PM

Rihanna performed on the X Factor last night ~ She looked amazing ^^ And except for one weird little high note she didn't quite reach at the start, it was an amazing performance <3

- let's stop the Rihanna bashing, it's not big or clever ~ -

GRACE 30th November 2009 09:03 PM

Anyway, Rated R is slooowly growing on me. I like Fire Bomb now, and Stupid In Love. Rude Boy has a catchy tune, but I'm not quite over my shock at the lyrics.

keepsgettinbetter 30th November 2009 09:06 PM

I find her "gangsta girl" image in G4L really... not good lol. Like, the beat and the music is SO HOT but the lyrics are such a turn off. :no

Corvina 1st December 2009 06:24 PM

I really don't know why so much people here are saying this direction with Rated R is new and bad.
In fact it isn't like somebody already postedt here, she was dark and heavy before. I like her new album, I love Russian Roulette and Wait your turn.

And of course this album is about her experiences with Chris Brown. Every artist who has some power over the own image and material will use their own epxeriences. So of course this album would be about Chris Brown, it affected Rihanna so much and the album is a way for her to get over it. So it's absolutely fine.

I personally love her edgy image, but what I don't like are these kind of lyrics:

Quote:

You know I’m down
I’m down for life…loaded, reloaded
Let’s go!
Gangsta life…’til the day that I die
Yeah, I promise I’ll stand in high
You know that I’m there, you know we down
Gangsta for life…

Can’t hurt us again when you come around here
We got our guns, got our guns, got our guns, got our guns
We got our guns in the m-----------g air, ohh
She is a pop artist with a huge fanbase, many are young and influential. She glorifies guns and violence with this song. :no

And she already said the album was a way for her to get over everything, why people are making a fuss about it, I don't know. :shrug

Corvina 1st December 2009 07:13 PM

I wouldn't say she glorifies guns and violence.
It's more kind of satirical and cynical, cause the life is so bad sometimes and you feel so bad sometimes you just have the strong will to become a gangster, to getrid of this bad feeling. Well, that's the way I understand it. Reading between the lines.
(and I hope you understand what I mean :dead2 )

And because of her edgy and dark image, she never was a pure pop artist to me. :shrug

The problem is most of the time people don't read between the lines xD;

Question, does she write her own lyrics? I was under the impression she doesn't.

Sundae 10th December 2009 04:37 AM

The lyrics to me mean when life gets you down, just stand right up. Be tough and don't let life knock you down for long. And then go after the person who knocked you down. Revenge is sweet :evillaugh

I don't personally believe that revenge is a good path to take everytime. Sometimes you just gotta let it go. But Britney can sing about having a threesome and it's the thing to do and people love it.

Rated R is kinda growing on me. I still think it's a step in the wrong direction for her, but the songs aren't as bad as I originally thought <3

I went to Rihanna's show in Lyon and it was amazing! Did anybody else see her?

GRACE 21st April 2010 12:53 AM

I'm so sure they're TRYING to kill her career. They originally were going to have Te Amo, which is one of the only amazing songs on Rated R, as the next single, but switched at the last minute for Rockstar 101, which is one of the worst.

Come on, how could they pick Rockstar 101 over Te Amo or Firebomb :( Her company is really really trying to kill her career

U-GO-BOY 21st April 2010 05:05 AM

Are you really shocked though? Most people know Rihanna for her happy, bouncy dance tracks. Most people WANT bouncy dance tracks. Of course Rude Boy is going to fare better than, say, Hard or Russian roulette, it's the closest thing Rated R has got to a bouncy dance track : P

SURREAL__RAINBOW 29th May 2010 04:00 PM

I'm seriously in love with this album since it leaked last year xDD

Cherry Dynamite 1st June 2010 10:45 AM

I've also love her since Pon de Replay. It's good she's really developing as an artist even though sometimes I think she became such a B****. I love her image on Good Girl Gone Bad, I don't particularly dig her current image/attitude.

SURREAL__RAINBOW 1st June 2010 10:50 AM

^true!

I though think that she's is becoming more "herself" now, doing the things that she wants to do, acting like she really wants to.

good news from Rihanna

Quote:

In April 2010, David Guetta leaked a small snippet of an unreleased song by himself and Rihanna. It was later found that Rihanna is recording for her fifth studio album which is set to be released at the end of 2010 soon after the North American leg of her Last Girl on Earth Tour finishes. One of its tracks is going to be performed live on August 20, 2010. Besides Guetta, Taio Cruz, Alex da Kid, Sean Garrett and Ne-Yo have claimed to be working on the new album. On August 12, 2010, Rihanna said that her fifth album would be "strong, fun and sassy".On August 14, 2010 it was announced that the album's first single will feature David Guetta and will be made available at the beginning of the fall and is tentatively titled "Adrenalin Rush". In mid-August 2010, Rihanna unveiled a new commercial with Optus Mobile, the company that sponsored the Australian leg of her Last Girl on Earth Tour. The advertising campaign highlights Rihanna as she ‘lives life without limits’ in outer space with Optus Pre-Paid penguins. Austin R. Bryan, Marketing Director of Optus Consumer, said “Aligning our brand with the dynamic and talented Rihanna is sure to be a big hit with our customers – especially those in the Pre-Paid market. Also in Rihanna's future are her self-titled book set to be released in September 2010 and her movie debut in Peter Berg's film, Battleship, scheduled for release in 2012.

Kingdom 17th August 2010 07:25 PM

What? I would love another dark album, Rated R is the most refreshing album released in pop in a while.

U-GO-BOY 17th August 2010 07:30 PM

Quote:

Rihanna has often described her latest studio album, “Rated R,” as the product of a darker mood, given the turmoil in her personal life that has been so thoroughly documented in the media. Fans who did not enjoy the ride as much as the singer wanted them to can now breathe a sigh of relief as the next album, on which she’s already working, will mark her return from the dark zone back into life.

Famed producer Sean “The Pen” Garrett, whose work includes collaborations with Beyonce and Usher, confirms for Rap-Up that he’s already done a track with Rihanna – and, if we’re to believe him, it’s going to be epic. Guaranteed to be a hit single, unless something unexpected happens, the track is bound to bring the Rihanna from a couple of years ago back: fun and happy and, of course, with music to match such a lovable personality.

“I got a record on Rihanna’s new album. She’s got some suprises. The record I gave her was very, very positive, very big. It’s a [expletive] smash. I gave her a humongous radio record. It’s just so infectious. It’s about getting past any drama and just being happy to be alive. It’s an encouraging record. It feels great and it’s got great tempo,” The Pen says for Rap-Up of one of the tracks that will be included on Rihanna’s upcoming material. The producer is just as happy she’s finally coming back from her dark zone, he goes on to say.

“Whenever I think of Rihanna, it makes me happy. To be honest, I wasn’t really that excited about hearing her in a dark zone. I love Rihanna for being that girl… She’s like the lil’ fantasy chick – nice brown skin, beautiful woman with a Caribbean swagger that’s ridiculous,” The Pen says. So he made her a guaranteed hit once it’s out. “I made sure that it was bulletproof. It should be a single unless something crazy happens. It’s hot as [expletive]. I think it’s a record that’s gonna stay on the radio for a long time,” the producer adds.
I liked Rated R as I liked GGGB but I'm more into Rihanna's dance/pop-tracks and on RR was only Rude Boy.. (and maybe Photographs)

Who's that chick is awesome! Love the video.

TITANIC 24th September 2010 01:36 PM

slowly I love only girl (in the world)

freedreamer 26th September 2010 03:53 AM

Only Girl (In the world) has that current in-sound...it reminded me of dynamite+california gurls LOL...its not bad. Definitely fresh from Rated R and not something u could fit into GGGB.

Only Girl (In The World) is amazing in my opinion! One of her best songs to date! I also love Who's That Chick <3

TITANIC 27th September 2010 02:43 AM

It's doing great in billboard chart.
in US from #75 jumped to #3 and in Australia hot shot debut at #1

U-GO-BOY 27th September 2010 03:58 PM

she's shooting a PV for another song, "What's My Name?" and already shot a PV for Only Girl..

STUNNING, SHAKING AND CRYING.

she doesn't even need to put her name on the cover she's so iconic. i can't believe this girl is only 22.

TITANIC 29th September 2010 05:45 AM

ehmm, I dunno. IMO Rated R is much better cover

U-GO-BOY 29th September 2010 01:11 PM

I imagined her standing on a cliff and shouting for the cover xD

The photoshoot for Rated R was really good, but the cover was horrible for me! I'm glad we have happy Rihanna back but I love the dark RiRi too.

She said in an interview that she will miss Rated R era but she says she's most happy with this new album!

who's that chick? who's that chick?

i'm addicted.

In some way, this cover gives me Madonna feeling. I don't like her red hair, but hairs color and lip color turn out match so good in this cover.

haha. first, I hate the cover of Rated R but it grew on me later. not sure about LOUD. It's just plain cover for me but Only Girl is :thud I cant stop listening to it. I can say thats her best song ever

Soooo about a year ago I said I wouldn't be back to this thread, but I am breaking that vow. xD

OMGNEWALBUM! I'm so excited and that cover is gorgeous. I kind of wish the new R logo was on the cover, the same one that's on the Only Girl single cover. I love Only Girl and Who's that chick! Unfortunately... Who's that chick will NOT be part of Loud. Rihanna tweeted saying it is a leaked "internet music video" that will be used to promote Doritos and that it was not part of Loud... yeah, you read right- DORITOS.

I was so looking forward to the album having that sort of feel but I'm sure it'll be up for download eventually or maybe as a bonus track on some edition perhaps?

JustJared had an exclusive listening to Rihanna new album Loud earlier today. Her new album which hit stores on November 16th. He revealed the partial track listing to what songs he listen to, and a quick review on what the songs are about. Check it out below.

“S&M” – It’s definitely a club banger and the naughtiest song of all! Here are some of the sample lyrics as best I heard them: “I may be bad but I’m perfectly good… There’s sex in the air. I don’t care, I love the smell of it… Sticks and stones may break my bones but chains and whips excite me. I like it, come on, come on.”

“Only Girl (In The World)”: The whole room was dancing along! During the lyrics “hold me like a pillow,” L.A. hugged himself like a pillow, too. Funny moment!

“What’s My Name?” – It’s the second single off of Loud – listen to a bit of the track here! “Oh nah nah, what’s my name? …Hey boy, I really wanna see if you can go downtown with a girl like me. Oh boy, I wanna really be with you, you’re just my type… You’re so amazing, you took the time to figure me out..”

“Cheers” – The song samples Avril Lavigne’s “I’m With You” and is so unbelievably catchy! Avril’s “yeahh, yeahh, yeahhh, yeahhh” are prevalent throughout. This song will be so huge in clubs, bars, and everywhere that serves alcohol. Everybody will be raising a glass! Sample lyrics: “Turn it around with a dollar round, there’s a party at the bar everybody put your glasses up… Cheers to the freakin weekend, I drink to that. Everybody put your glasses up. Don’t let the bastards get you down… Drinks on my mind and my mind on my money.”

“California King (Bed)” – A beautiful ballad! Lyrics include: “nose to nose, palm to palm, wrist to wrist, toe to toe…Feels like more than distance between us. In this California king bed, we’re 10,000 miles apart. I’ll be California wishing on the stars, my California king.” It’s L.A.’s favorite song off the album!

“Raining Men” – The fast and uptempo song features Nicki Minaj! There isn’t much of a chorus, but the song features a variation of the popular children’s phrase “eenie meenie miney mo”.

“Who’s That Chick” – Used for a Doritos ad . There are two videos for this track!

“Fading Away” – A beautiful ballad that likely references her relationship with Chris Brown. The song includes the lines, “Ready for change, baby, Open up my eyes and finally realize you’re fading away. Too late… Running your mouth. So fed up, don’t press your luck today. What’s a girl to do when she’s crying inside?”

“Man Down” – The song starts off with sirens and sounds like a metaphor for deadening a relationship. Lyrics include: “I pulled out my gun… Ra pum pum pum pum. Oh mama, mama, mama, I just shot a man down in central station. Never thought I’d do it. Whatever ever happened to me. Why did I pull the trigger. What am I gonna do?”

here it says that it's gonna be on the album..
