I agree in some way. :yes

Things have gone bleak and blur, piracy vs. men addicted to idols, the earthquake...what?

Yes, don't forget about the earthquake...it seems this year it's not very diverse. And I have a feeling this could last a while here, until someone is able to "break the code" (stepping up to the plate, a very good soloist who are not related to AKB, Johnny's or other idols and end up among the top ten)...

...but I'm not sure how things will go next year...

AyuGAME 29th December 2011 12:55 PM

the top 100 is ridiculous...almost all group idol is in there...

elaniel 29th December 2011 02:43 PM

Okay it's official. What seems in the last 2-3 years is popular in Japan is NOT what I enjoy. A few years back (mainly the 00's) I was enjoying so much that was hugely popular.

Instead of wasting 17 minutes and 20 seconds of your lives watching that video I'll break it down:

60 AKB48 songs
20 boybands who all sound the same
10 Gener-ock
10 decent tracks (mostly around 100-80 in the chart)

Hardly any of these groups have any diversity in them, it's the same old, same old. And most of them are so cheesy and pay no attention to making a quality track with a beautiful composition (which is what I think Jpop is missing nowadays)

tokyoxjapanxfan 29th December 2011 04:14 PM

I don't even know what to say about how disappointed I am.

I mean, I have a lot to say about a certain something but I'd just start a bunch of fights.

SunshineSlayer 29th December 2011 04:48 PM

^ I'll say it then. :) Idol music in and of itself isn't bad. There is such a thing as good Idol music. For example, all of Morning Musume's big hits were actually musically diverse, even experimental sounding pop music. But most importantly, the compositions and hooks were memorable. That's why everyone in Japan still knows those songs to this day. The problem isn't idol music, it's bad idol music. At least 80% of what is on this list will be forgotten by next year.

Don't know if that's what you wanted to say or not, haha.

Yoake 29th December 2011 06:30 PM

Could I say that kind of top is frightening? Especially the top 3.
God, they're a lot of others artists that are 100xbetter than thoses boys & girls bands.

Totally agree with you. I think probably the main difference (I think I've written this somewhere else too sorry if I'm repeating myself) is that H!P was formed by a musician with no intention of entering the idol market to begin with. H!P really was an exception a sort of a hybrid (not so much anymore sadly...) Even the groups that were formed to exploit the idol potential of certain girls (such as biyuuden) had pretty decent songs at least up untill some years ago. The guy creating AKB and onyanko club is first and foremost a business man who's really great at exploiting a certain segment of the market through a wide variety of angles, a talent that is probably unmachetd by anyone in the idol industry except by Johnny Kitagawa.

YUKARI 29th December 2011 07:59 PM

glad to see Perfume in the list :heart

I'm not a huge fan of AKB48, but I like all the 3 songs from top 3 :laugh especially "Kaze wa Fuiteiru"

though I hope next year the list won't be the same :thud

:yes I hear those AKB songs that are in the top 10 basically everyday in some form or another over here, but I couldn't tell you how any of them go for the life of me except for maybe Flying Get. They just all kind of blend together and aren't that memorable. Although my comment was not just directed at AKB, but just about all the idol groups on that list, of which there are many. Even HP I feel has been musically stale for the last couple of years with just a few exceptions.

I am a huge Arashi fan as well, but even I'll admit that most of their recent singles have been bland, bland, bland. You can still hear quality in their b-sides and album tracks but the singles, my gosh. It seems to be an industry wide epidemic these days of pushing the most bland material to the forefront.

owlflight 30th December 2011 02:04 AM

Stupid moment for me when I first saw the video: where's Ayu? Then I remembered that she didn't release any singles in 2011.

setsuka 30th December 2011 02:31 AM

single market is dead, move on tbh
proud the 48s are slaying! some of their songs are amazing, Queen Itano got the highest solo female single and yay Masha and Team Amuse
ummm someone above made a mistake it is

30/100 are AKB related.
21/100 are JE related.
14/10 are hallyu related.

and 35 are non-idols, anyway Oricon 100 isn't best reflection of what is popular, Miliyah, Kana, JUJU,Kuu are way more consumed musically then 2/3 of these people
why idols sell so much is a whole other discussion so don't be too pressed

kumiko.koda 30th December 2011 04:51 AM

those top 100 are interesting

I have only found top 100 ~2010 on youtube

For a list that is of 100 songs from a single year, that is an absolutely HORRID ratio.

adantatu2 30th December 2011 06:56 AM

I'm glad to see YUI, UVERworld, Namie and some K-pop groups.
Obviously this year was for AKB48, their sub-ubits and sister groups.

Good bye to solo artists, and welcome Idol Groups !!!

SheFliesHigher 31st December 2011 10:20 PM

Oh my God.

The death of the solo artist right here.

sesshy 1st January 2012 01:16 AM

A lot of my music is from less known artists, indies and J-rock/pop-rock/whatever rock related. Makes me sad my favorite artists are on the bottom or not even on the list... So many idols... But I expected that.

R_Hikki 2nd January 2012 12:32 AM

All I see is Namie, alone and outnumbered by all the boy/girl groups. I'm scared D:

RealLight 19th January 2012 09:49 PM

The only one I was happy to see was Namie..

Seriously, these PUT3LETTERS48 groups, Korean boybands are all gettin' on my nervers. Their music sounds all the same cra**y thing, and yet, they still sell like water. I'm just disgusted at how the music has become so bland and meaningless.

God, and I still complain Ayu's music is nothing compared to her old works, but still better than all this s**t. -_-

NintendoHTF1242 20th January 2012 12:00 AM

This year in music sucked. YUI's voice was awful in those singles btw, and Namie sounds really different...

It's only the unpopular artists that I seem to really enjoy this year -_- MAA, MiChi, etc.
