No, they don't have many similarities other than they are both female, and both sing ^_~
BoA is more laid back R&B stuff imo, nothing like Ayu's music.

My faves are: Hal, move, Malice Mizer, psydoll, and the mad capsule markets.

who r "move, Malice Mizer, psydoll, and the mad capsule markets" ???

Move are also on Avex, and are sort of Euro-techno in style.
Think '2 unlimited', only 1,0000000 x better!

Malice Mizer are dark J-rock, almost boardering on Goth.
Gackt used to be a member I think.
They also have a member named 'Mana' whose level of fashion is several steps beyond anyone else in the world imo.

Psydoll (www.psydoll.com) are an industrial band with anime inspired vocals.
They are propably my fave band from Japan after ayu. Also their singer Nekoi is one of the most friendly people you could ever hope to meet.

Mad capsule markets are, I would say the biggest Japanese band in the UK. They mix metal (which I don't normally like) with electronics. They are basically a Japanese Atari teenage riot, but slightly more melodic ^_~
Try and get their latest live album, called '020120' and listen to the song 'Good Girl' for a wicked introduction to them ^_^

Dream was very good!!!! Too bad one of the members left and the group went from 3 members (nice) to 9 members (way too much imo)....

Unimatrix Prime™ 14th November 2002 02:26 AM

I remember the first time I heard Dream was Night of Fire sometime in early 2001....I tried forever to find the vid, but finally did a year later, but I think 3 was best...with 9, they're more like Morning Musume....

chsf 17th November 2002 11:52 PM

I'll have to choose "other" because despite the fact that the diva of the new school Mika Nakashima has had 2 #1 albums this year, she's not an option :P

eVe 18th November 2002 08:53 PM

my god I just wanna vote here :(
its a pitty that my soundboxes don't go. I don't know any other J-Pop star other than ayu. my god I have to repair this stupid things...

chsf 22nd November 2002 11:13 AM

move, EURO-TECHNO?????

More like laidback eurobeat with a touch of the 70s, 80s and 90s cheesier genres.

knightcat 22nd November 2002 11:15 PM

No - I think you will find a lot of their songs are very euro-techno in style.
Notice I mentioned '2 unlimited', and in the uk in the early 90's that genre of music was known as euro-techno.
Look at the similarities with 'bands' such as Cappella, masterboy, magic affair etc. The music is basically a female singer with a melodic, pretty voice, accompanied by a rapper with fast electronic dance music. I think that sums up Move pretty well personally.
Sure, some of Move's tunes are slower, but that's not really what they're known for is it?
The fact is a sound that is associated with a particular genre, may be called something else as the years go on. Trance for example has nothing to do with what it was originally about, and sounds totally different, yet it is still called trance.
Move sound like lots of early euro-techno acts, so it's an apt description really.

chsf 24th November 2002 03:31 PM

The only thing they really have in common with the acts you mentioned is that they have a singer and a rapper:roflmao

They doesn't sound much like any of them, and their sound changes too much from single to single, "Romancing train" was excellent where as "Future breeze" was terrible.

knightcat 25th November 2002 01:04 PM

Well then, either 1. you are deaf. or 2.you simply don't know what you are talking about.
I was a music journalist for a international dance magazine in the early 90's, and had to write numourous articles on the whole euro explosion. I think this makes me slightly more qualified than you.
So unless you have something constructive to say.....

chsf 25th November 2002 07:44 PM

Oooh, oooh, do I sense some highbrow tendencies there? ;)

People are allowed to have different opinions, you should know:laugh

Battle Angel 25th November 2002 08:20 PM

oO There are others? J/K

My second favorite is Hisakawa, Aya. Sure Aya is a voice actress and well known for her roles as Devil Hunter Yohko and Skuld from Aa Megami-sama. She's also an accomplished vocalist.

That aside there's plenty more Ayu CDs to get.

I didn't really want to get into a argument here, but as you insist...

Of course people are allowed to have different opinions - I am a firm believer in that.

BUT! what you said has nothing to do with opinion!!!! If you had said 'Move are rubbish', or 'Move' are great' that *would* be an opinion and there would be no problem.
As it stands, Move sound VERY euro-techno in style, and I say this as fact, not opinion.

If you seriously think that the style of music a particular band belongs to is down to personal opinion, then I could say Michael Jackson makes wicked 300bpm industrial-speedcore, and be right by your reasoning???

Biscuitgirl 26th November 2002 01:45 AM

Well, you know what? I think Garth Brooks sings rap! :roflmao

chsf 26th November 2002 01:35 PM

And Ayu makes Somalian countrytrance!!! :laugh
