^ i suppose there is, but i'm not a real big fan of the artists making the music. I'm sure there are a lot of metal bands out there that are really good, but i havent heard anything by them. Anyone have any suggestions? ^^;

Let's just start with a couple of Asian non-pop suggestions. :) We wouldn't to stray too far from Jpop, rofl. :laugh

Mono - three guys and a gal take all the time they need for their brilliant, moving compositions. Call it post-rock, it'd be a nice description altogether. Definitely worth seeking out.

Envy - far more extreme than Mono, with a vocalist who screams his lungs out. The most wonderful thing about Envy is the sheer emotion though - layers of distortion and screaming, and, maybe surprisingly, melody. One of the most brilliant hardcore bands ever. There's two of their songs here: ENVY.

Melt-Banana - only for trained listeners. Hyperchaotic metalpunkcore with a screeching, female vocalist that sounds like a cartoon character. Energizing.

Merzbow - warning: only suggested if you think you can enjoy sonical masochism. Music, or well, music - noise actually - that's void of any traditional musical structures. Merzbow's music is like art - sculptured and unique.

Yellow Magic Orchestra - some golden oldies, 80s electro-'pop' (I'm cheating, I know) that's just too damn infective ánd inventive ánd brilliant to sit still. Related artists are the well-known Ryuichi Sakamoto and the band Happy End - perhaps best know for their song 'Kaze Wo Atsumete', used in Lost In Translation.

That's a couple to begin with. If you like them (one or two or three or all, or none lol) - there's tons more artists I could recommend!

w00t!

Right on, James! :laugh

I showed you Onesidezero. You seemed to have liked them. Give me a little while, and I'll show you some ppl that I have. After all, you may or may not like them, but they're worth the listening so you'll just have to give them a try ^_^.

Just a question - Kristen, what other music do you like, besides Ayu?
