I love how she writes in English. It's so clever! I remember also she wrote a Hawaiian word in the "Making of fairyland photo album". Here, I'll post it up. :) (Credit to Nick's site of course. :D)

^ err, I don't think Ayumi is the only Japanese person to write shorthand like that.

Also, anyone with an Asian parent who grew up learning English in Asia probably knows this, but usually, the handwriting is similar to whoever taught them to write their ABC's. It's usually a 'follow my example' type of learning.

For anyone interested, "Mauloa" means 'forever' and is apparently a well-known Hawai'ian word amongst Japanese as I've seen it on Japanese blogs and sites.

When I say calligraphy it means her writing in japanese, I've studied japanese for almost 3 years and our teacher is a graphic designer and he's always taught us about harmony when writing, and you can't see that in Ayu's writing, although probably she's just making it that way to look cute, GOD if you say something about Ayu you get crucified here :dead2

slashess 29th March 2006 01:46 AM

so, does this prove she can speak english now?

I rest my case...

devilayu 29th March 2006 06:10 AM

^ Whaaat? A simple phrase doesn't mean anything. Countless members here know how to read/write simple Japanese phrases.

Eigakan - I agree that her regular handwriting is messy! But it seems like her brush calligraphy is quite nice.

I've heard that alot of Japanese people have really sloppy handwriting in japanese.. but really nice handwriting in english? because they have to work harder to make sure people can understand their english writing?
I dunno, every japanese penpal I've ever had, they had the NEATEST handwriting when writing to me in english, but their japanese was fairly sloppy *shrugs*

oh.. and I wasnt trying to be creepy.. but i thought an Ayu font would be cute to use for Ayu signatures and icons.. *shrugs* ah well

Hahahaha...I wouldn't say you're a stalker :P Now, if you wanted to hunt down scraps of paper that Ayu had written on...that'll be more stalkerish....:shakehead haha.

The way people write calligraphy (with brush) and the way people write with a pen are different at times....I know I've read a lot of Japanese/Chinese writing from friends/family and sometimes their characters are so hard to decipher...but usually when I see them write in calligraphy/with a brush, the characters are very crisp, clean, and accurate. (Did this make sense at all?)

Um just because she writes like that on those journal/diary things, doesn't mean she writes like that all the time. Calligraphy is when you actually use the brush and ink, not when you're just writing. Same thing with Enlgish...calligraphy is when you use a certain pen...you don't call your normal writing "calligraphy" right? I know that when I write in both English and Chinese, I can choose to write very neat and with "harmony" or whatever, or I can choose to write sloppy. Seeing as you've been studying Japanese for three years, one would think you knew the difference?

I still think Ayu can speak english.
I don't know why so many people doubt this. English is like... nearly the 2nd language over there, from what I've heard. :shrug

Um... None of that is Calligraphy.
this is calligraphy.
Calligraphy is like a medieval type of writing.

Please don't be so closeminded. There's that calligraphy, and there's Asian calligraphy:
