So I generally just judge Gackt by the TV performances that he is obviously singing live on. He still sounds amazing, just not as absolutely perfect as the DVDs would lead you to believe.

Now that you say it, that's very likely. The DVD is edited - no doubt, all DVD releases are - but to what extent? The problem with a head mic is that if it's too close to your mouth your breathing will be heard very loudly. There is one concert where Ayu is using a head mic through a few songs and her breathing is heard in an annoying way, she seems bothered by it and is trying to adjust it now and then, it's from one of her older ones. It was a long time ago I last watched a Gackt performance, but I vaugely remember that he adjusts his head mic at those occassion, you can probably correct me if I'm right or wrong on this.
I've only seen a few of his TV live performances and it was a so long time ago that I can't really remember if he sounded different in those.
Comparing Ayus TV performances to her concerts there's a notable difference, but I don't think it's only the DVDs editing that create all of this difference. I belive she is warming her voice up a lot more before concerts than when shes going on TV.
On the DVD editing, looking at the TV version of CountDown Live 05-06 you can barely hear the audience at all, cheering or singing, just like when you are in the arena, all those sounds die away in the extreme sound level. But on the DVD they have edited this sound so that you can hear better how much noise the audience actually is making. Also, Ayumis voice is a lot clearer on the DVD, but other than it being clearer I don't think there's very much difference in how she is sounding. Maybe I should watch the TV version again, it was a long time ago.
Do you agree with me when I say, there's nothing what-so-ever that beats mirror live :)?
