Great!! Wow, I can't believe (m)u is still there! Hey ayu_fan929, do you know what ranking "A BEST" is for best selling Japanese albums?

wow, the only female is Kuu in the top 20 for singles ("4 hot wave" should be more up there soon!). lots of male dominance!

glad to see m(u) still selling. & BB broke 250,000! that's good.

2006 TOP 50 Single Sales (As of 1st Week of August): 14,471,775
2006 Increase of 98,242 or 0.68%

Even though it is a slight increase, it is only because of the boy band sales. I hate how the top 20 is so boy band dominated.

Axel_Grease 2nd August 2006 08:03 PM

Glad BB was able to pass 250K. :thumbsup I'm still amazed at (m)u though. :shakehead

Cyria 2nd August 2006 08:14 PM

I'm also glad that BLUE BIRD has sold over 250k and her single sales didn't end up staying on the B&D level.

truehappiness 2nd August 2006 08:24 PM

I think it's a bit weird that the top is boybands nowadays.. I wonder just what happened to the 'oo female generation' of J-pop. I hope one day it sparks back up again.. D:

This year had a lot of drama singles, which is probably why singles did so well..

norain 2nd August 2006 11:55 PM

miss understood is a million seller, but nto in japan...

chameber80218 3rd August 2006 12:26 AM

Wow! That's soooooo many, AYU's doing good! GO~AYU!!

Yearly rankings are so boring. In the 90s and early 2000s, there was always lots of variety and new artists. Now, 90% is very predictable.

True. But hope the later half of this year we can see female singles like Otsuka Ai's, Kuu's and Ayu's break into the that 'fortress'.

Ayu_Fan_00 3rd August 2006 03:19 AM

omg, BLUE BIRD is platinum. holy...omg this is awesome!!!!!!!!!

DDR ninja 3rd August 2006 04:59 AM

For some reason I thought I am... sold more than ABest but it's actually the other way around lol. I guess best albums do tend to sell better than regular albums.

Well, for the most part I agree, but the yearly albums chart does offer up a lot more variety: Angela Aki, Aqua Timez, Def Tech, Spitz, Tokyo Jihen, etc. Thank God the boy groups are not well-represented.

Sigh, but I do remember a time when artists as diverse as Chara, Judy and Mary, Pizzicato Five, Shiina Ringo, and X Japan would top either chart. Now it's all Johnny's and Avex artists. Yawn. (Though I don't have anything against Ai and Ayu being up there. Well-deserved for fantastic albums.)

Ayufan929, could you put up or PM me the complete list of all-time bestselling Japanese singles and artists? I hope you don't mind. I can't seem to find the lists anywhere. Thank you!

Endlessoul 3rd August 2006 07:53 AM
