You know, those skinny artist who think they are fat.

To some people the person/band behind the music is very important aswell. To me I mainly care about the music, but if the person behind it is awesome *cough*ayumi*cough* that's a bonus :).

Yeah, but what if you really don't know anything about the artist?? And also it's definetly very discriminating, f.ex I don't know how many who would consider Keiko of GLobe one of those "skinny girls who think shes fat" but she's definetly one of the skinniest jpop stars I've ever seen.
Does he listen to any of the H!P girls? Most of them complains of how much they've eaten, what they should stay away from etc etc, without I've ever heard anyone accusing them of that sort of image. So it would only apply to artists whose image is present in the nearby area/same culture.

So if I did recommend a mp3 of an artist I knew nothing of, a wonderful song which suddenly turned out to be by some "skinny girl complaining that she's fat", the song would suddenly turn out to be crap?

I'm not saying people should listen to music they don't like, but this is as shallow as it gets to me. Especially in these days of genre mixing, "unknown mp3" etc. Also how many of these girls do actually make their music other than writing a few lyrics and singing? Very professional and talented peopl (mostly) are behind a production. 'Nuff said...

Good argumenting there, and I think I agree with you (it might be because I'm pretty tired, but I don't think I got a clear view on if the artist behind the music matter to you or not, but I think not :P). In my post I only said that it is to "some people", in this case I'm not one of some ;).

I don't care about looks or if the artist has health issues, like being anorectic, I don't think I would care about that very much either, unless the artist in question mean a lot to me.

No, I don't let the name of the artist or the person(s) behind it effect what I think about the music. Maybe in the case of something like Spice Girls, haha, but that'd be uncoinscious, really.

when i say American music, i mean, music that i can go into walmart and buy....i dont care if theyre swedish or australian...i think i'll try Evanescence, Rihanna, and 3LW...oh and i didnt mean to sound shallow about the whole rule #4 thing...i just get sick of girls who worry too much about their appearance....they are already like 80 pounds, but then they go all anorexic, just because they arent satisfied with what they are...i like singer's for the artist themself, not just the music. sorry bout that

She's not from my country, but UK artist Imogen Heap releases some wonderful music. :) Neither is Björk Guðmundsdóttir (or more commonly known as Björk), but she's simply amazing. Homogenic is a marvelous achievement in music.

Try some oldies. Paula Abdul (Straight Up is pretty darn catchy) and Whitney Houston (I Wanna Dance With Somebody) have some classics. Oh, and if you want something a bit more rock, give Janis Joplin a listen sometime. Her voice may not be everybody's cup of tea (it can get very raspy), but I think she churned out some pretty good music.

Could you make a few exceptions? I think you're missing out on some pretty good music by male singers. Steve Burns (the host of Blue's Clues) released an album a few years ago, and it's awesome. :yes Jack Johnson also has a pretty soothing voice; you might like his music.

Dont regret taking Rihanna though. She has pretty awesome music. But her singing and voice falls flat somehow. Can be overlooked by her music though.

:roflmao That's the best definiton for American music ever. Other mainstream stuff that are burning the charts and sound good would be Paris Hilton (porny lyrics), Pussycat Dolls (sexual content to the max), Cassie, Evanescence, Natasha Bedingfield.

If you liked Sixpence None The Richer, you might want to try Leigh Nash's latest solo stuff. She's the lead singer of that band. Her music and vocals are so heavenly, like sugar candy floss dipped in clouds and sun-dried in heaven. I love it, especially "My Idea of Heaven".

Anyway, I don't know if you like country, but Jessica Andrews is great! My favorite song is "Who I Am" but the best album is "Now."

I agree entirely. Homogenic=Amazing as Bachelorette and Joga are her two best songs IMO. However, I don't know if she is an artist that you would like, JesA. She's just not as immediately accessible as many other artists simply because her music is so unique. But I do recommend her because her music is amazing, her voice is so unique, and you actually can buy her CDs at Walmart ;)

Best Buy has more of her stuff though...

i listened to a bit of Bjork, and she's ok. her voice is something i'll have to get used to. Evanescence is really good too, and i really liked some stuff that i heard of Natalie Imbruglia. i think i might buy White Lilies Island. it sounds really good!
