i agree!!! i bet Ayu knew how to speak it all along. She just never really needed to i guess. Her, Kumi, Hikki and BoA all were in the US various times for one thing or another work related they all speak it well just never get to over in Japan alot. Of course Hikki is the better of the three she is Japanese-american but why does her japanese sound like she is going to throw up lol

I noticed she can speak english pretty clearly but she has a hard time expressing her views in english.

OH MY GOD. Her english's standard is soooooooo beyond my wildest imagination. may I even say she's A LOT more fluent that the one (*cough b*a) who claims to be fluent in 4 languages?

Ayu was sooooo cute and I think her English was brilliant. I loved when she said this: "if people will listen, I will go anywhere in the world".

Her pronounciation sounded very good to me. Every star is being taught how to give interviews. instead of saying "no, i won't answer that", they'll find a way "to get around" the question.

I've never heard Ayu speak so much English. That was pretty exciting. And I think she did a good job of expressing herself in English. (At least, I think I understood what she was trying to get across.)

Well, I just finished watching this program now, so it's still fresh in my mind...

I think some of her answers were very clique. Mostly, her english answers. I suspect that because she probably does not know how to properly express or say what she REALLY wants to explain to people. Phrases such as "without music I will die" seem to have been said many times before. Or, "I am real, this is me" Then again, if that is the way she honestly feels, than I respect that. It's not her fault those statements seem to be popular amongst entertainers. Something about stereotypical answers can make it un-sincere ;)

As for her Japanese answers, I felt they were slightly repetitive and off-topic. Whenever the woman would ask a short simple question, Ayu would run off into 3 or so topics and be complex with each one. I actually found this cute and it also proved her sincerity.

Overall, I think she said numerous statements about fame or whatnot, but I believe she DEFENDED her answers. She didn't sit there and say garbage and not justify herself. She made viewers believe she wanted to make people happy and she was responsible for her career. This is what I always admired about Ayu anyway. Her sense of business, duty, and responsibility. Her selflessness in attempts to please others and not complain about it.

I hope they interview her again! I really want her to be able to express herself much better. I didn't think she was being vague, she just had difficulties expressing herself.

I really liked the interview, even if some of the answers weren't too clear. I mentioned already in the other thread (in the News Forum), but I was amused by the fact that the interviewer, Atika, is my friend's sister's friend (haha, weird connection). My friend and I were supposed to go meet Atika when we were still in Japan, but we didn't really have time :headache Still, I thought it was awesome to see her interviewing Ayu. :D

It's not unexpected that Ayu doesn't fully address a question or even at all. Just simply read her past interviews.
She answers whatever she wishes on her own accord and we as fans should just try and take as much as out it as possible.
The things she said in the interview are basically what has been said over the years anyway, just with a modern twist (new asia tour, etc.)

yeah, if you guys have read her japanese magazine interviews..she answers in the same way..vague..and hard to understand. it's not just this CNN interview.

It was a great interview. Ayu talked in english! Wow. She's actually pretty good! She seems very happy when talking in english. Big smile and lots of hand gestures!

I feel like Ayu didn't really anwser the questions directly. I think it's because it's either because she didn't get the questions, either that she really didn't know (like the question about the futur) or she doesn't want to talk about it. Her anwsers was pretty vague like someone said. It was the same for BoA too, but she was more clear in her anwsers than Ayu. But I always thought that Ayu was like that. She never really gives any specific anwsers. Many of the japanese interviews are the same. Vague anwsers.

I really loved it when she said that she think people like her because she writes songs that reach her fans. She talked a lot about being true to herself. Her anwsers didn't really match up to the questions, but those anwsers were simply amazing. Talking about responsibility, honesty, business... :yes

I really enjoyed it...Ayu is so cute when she smiles while talking in English ("you know?") I could not help myself from smiling and feeling all fuzzy inside when she said, "I wanna keep, like... THIS me. This is real me, I think. Forever, not gonna change. I can't change." Good for you, Ayu, your fans love you for who you are!

She said something about that she takes full responsibilty of everything she does. That's something I like about her too. Never blame others :)

I'm guessing that she herself was like: "I want to try to express this in a language that more of the world will understand, rather than my own tongue.."~

I mean she could've just done it in Japanese and that'd be that. But then her words might get mixed up in translation.. so..

I think Ai would be a better choice, since she's like.. the most musical out of the J-Pop princesses at the moment [BoA wasn't exactly musical and Hikki's like Queen-status already..]
