I've heard a couple of songs (the one I remember is Angels) from watching Sims 2 music videos. (Seriously, the Angels one was amazing) After that I watched some of their real videos. That was a while ago and have since forgotten about them. I'll have to check them out. XD

spookshow 29th January 2007 02:55 AM

finally! the video for what have you done has emerged!

i love the setting/scenery but i don't like the filming -- it's too fast for me to spot the details (aka i wanted a better look at sharon's gorgeous white dress! ;) )

(you can watch the video here [youtube link])

one of the bands entering for Finland in this year's eurovision has entered with a song that sounds way too much like WT's Jillian, that everyone is calling for the chick to use another song.

WITHIN TEMPTATION put in a 911 call - 29.01.2007
Call the Feds! The Finnish Eurovision entry for 2007 has stolen Within Temptation's 'Jilian'?

YLE (the Finnish Broadcasting Society) will decide today, with the help of several music professionals and composers, if "Tietäjä", KATRA's qualified entry for the Finnish final, is a copy of "Jillian (I'd Give My Heart)" by WITHIN TEMPTATION, released in 2004. The case was in the air already before Saturday's second semifinal in Finland but, over the weekend, videos circulating in YouTube and various heated fan discussions in message boards have forced YLE to investigate.

"The intro is very similar. The chorus has different notes but sounds alike as well,' says Tracy Lipp, one of the authors of LAURA's "Addicted to You" back in 2002.

The composer of the song, Risto Asikainen, is planning to change the song if necessary. "We could change some notes so it won't remind of 'Jillian' at all. I heard this 'Jillian' [song] for the first time yesterday and wrote down the notes for both songs. Based on those, it is not a copy. Both songs use the clichés of classical music. After Bach there hasn't been anything new in that field." He says he studied the NIGHTWISH songs well to avoid any speculation but he wasn't prepared for this WITHIN TEMPTATION song. Many people after hearing both songs compare them to CARL ORFF's classic work "Carmina Burana" from the 1930s.

"The two songs do sound similar at times," says YLE's Timo Suomi. "We have invited several field professionals to a meeting today and if they think it is plagiarism, 'Tietäjä' will be replaced by KATRA's other song, 'Vaaratar'. I don't think Asikainen should change the notes of the song, it would confuse the voters more than if the song were replaced altogether. Also the rules state the melody of the song itself cannot be changed, only the lyrics and arrangement."

you can listen to the song here (YT). to me it sounds way too similar to just be 'coincidence', and the chick looks way too much like she's trying to become Tarja from Nightwish (until she was booted out). I think that she should be made to sing another song, because that song sounds way too much like Jillian to me

i suggest you listen to stand my ground, memories, it's the fear -- those are some of my WT favourites, also their new single what have you done is great

Thanks for the advice. :) I'll check those out. I prefer the Placebo version of Running Up that Hill as well.

OK, I've been kind of intrigued by this band for a little while because of spookshow's set, but I just listened to some of their songs today and OMG so good. My friend showed me a really awesome LOTR music video with their song Pale in it and we both got obsessed with it because it's like...so perfect for LOTR~ I've been poking around YT and so far I liked Memories and Stand My Ground also.

spookshow 17th February 2007 09:40 AM

aaah the power of sigs and avatars... :D great to hear i've introduced someone to WT - because they're brilliant!

i'm still waiting for the album to leak! so far only the heart of everything, all i need, our solemn hour, the howling & WHYDN have leaked/surfaced. also the b-side Blue Eyes has leaked. And so far, this album sounds great! my favourites so far are Blue Eyes & Our Solemn Hour -- which reminds me a bit of Evanescence's 'Whisper' with the use of a choir singing latin phrases... man i'm so excited! can't wait for the rest of the album

and if anyone wants to know where i found these tracks: this is a good place to start your search ;)

Kashoku 18th February 2007 02:55 PM

I've been a long time WT fan and so far this album rocks. Our Solemn Hour brings tears to my eyes....Has anyone actually caught that it is Winston Churchill saying the thigns in the background and that it is a WWII song??

Anyways, I defiantly can't wait for the album. It is a shame that Finland's eurovision entry is doing this! I LOVE THE FINNISH PEOPLE! They need to enter Lordi again hahaa!

spookshow 19th February 2007 09:32 AM

^ kashoku, i've seen your sig before... but i can't remember where... do you post on other forums? (i lurk around at a few ;) )

hehe Lordi are so cool! we need more wierd and kooki bands like them!
