about DVD-Audio

Hopefully I can answer some questions about the DVD-Audio format:

First of all, DVD-Audio discs are primarily used for audio, but can hold a VERY LIMITED amount of video/graphics - so don't expect any PVs or behind-the-scenes footage on this disc.

DVD-Audio discs have MUCH higher sampling rate than your standard CDs for the highest possible audio quality. The audio on a DVD-Audio disc even exceeds the audio on a DVD-Video disc.

In addition, the DVD format allows for the tracks to be encoded with Dolby Digital or DTS 5.1 surround sound.

MOST (and I stress the word "most") DVD-Audio discs are compatible with standard DVD players, but you should always inquire before hand to make sure. Those DVD-Audio discs that are compatible with regular DVD players will have both a DVD-Audio and DVD-Video logo on them. However, when playing a DVD-Audio Disc in a regular DVD player, the sound quality will be the same as a regular CD.

Regular CD players WILL NOT play DVD-Audio discs, so don't even try.

PCs are NOT COMPATIBLE with DVD-Audio discs, that is, they can't decode the high sampling rate. However, because most PCs nowadays have DVD Drives, they will most likely be able to play DVD-Audio discs as regular CDs with lower sound quality.

So there ya have it. DVD-Audio discs are for those who really like great sound. Trust me, they do sound incredible.
I hope this helps.
