The only 'protest' song I can think of that Ayumi has is alterna...

M_aria 26th June 2008 05:51 AM

How about Because of You

tbb08 26th June 2008 11:37 AM

Thanks for all these suggestions
I shall read all the lyrics thouroughly and get some meaning out of them.
But no one in my class can speak japanese (including the teacher) so I guess I could change the lyrics completely and make them extremely "protesty" lol :D
..but I wouldnt do that :P

AyumiBest 26th June 2008 11:55 AM

I think Because of You would work great. :D

You can see also NEVER EVER and ourselves as official protest songs and they are even protesting against the same thing along with alterna (avex trax). XD
Just about different things about their management ways.

I think the lyrics of M talk about a person's expectations and insecurities over a relationship. In this case, ayu's looking at the fact the curtain has risen for some today (they've met and fell in love with each other) and fallen for others (they used to be in love but are now breaking up), and how relationships can be quite unstable, so she prays (for Virgin Mary) that the love she has found will actually be the last one in her life (the curtain will only rise but never fall), so that it will fnally last forever until death...

I don't think there's a protest in the lyrics. Just a contemplation about how relationships can be, and a wish for spiritual enlightment.

my name's WOMEN

I think that song is pretty protest-ish, actually. It's basically yelling at guys to stop effing around with women, and women to stand up. :P It also has powerful instrumentation.. Though the PV version is better IMO.

I mean, she literally said "**** you AVEX" and ripped up her A BEST poster. True classic Ayu moment. :yes

But...I guess I'll go with M if you still want to use it! :yes

Wait...What? In the PV she ACTUALLY lip-synchs "**** you AVEX" and then rips up the poster?! WTF I never saw that o_O;;

No, she doesn't, even though Luv used the word "literally", she didn't mean it as "literally, haha. Ayu isn't even the one who rips the poster; it's one of the weird scientist dudes.

coming from my perspective,
when I heard lyrics of Pride the first time..
I felt she it was a protest song..
It's maybe a really good meaning... saying that before we succumb to suicide (implied,)
As many japanese do, because of pressure of our society to be one group, and not do your own thing,
She is saying like "what do we really want?" and "why do we stop laughing, even if someone tells us to?"

Even no more words carries this kind of meaning... where she is saying that she would rather be one who loses in this world.. and how we must continue to sacrifice to continue walking in the world.

Lines in endless sorrow, maybe a lot of End of the World, some lines in Surreal, saying be who you are, and ESPECIALLY too late... I suggest those. especially in too late where she says like... there is more than honor or money in life. uu ahaha.

I hope you can accomplish your project well!!
